What exactly had been happening with your phone? I flashed to 1.4 a couple of days ago and after an hour of idle it goes blank and I have to use the stylus to reset. I've hard reset and only reloaded qik so I am not sure if I'm going to have to reflash or go back to the R&R. If this is similar to what happened to you, please let me know how you resolved it....thanks!

I am having the very same issue with 1.4 as well. I can't figure out what I've installed to cause this to happen... Google Maps, Facebook app, Bing, Youtube... none of which are running in the background when it freezes.

What I have noticed, however, through careful monitoring of Task Manager, is that when the phone starts to freeze or become super slow (and unable to wake up if it is in standby) a program called LargeScreenStart.exe or something similar is taking up 100% CPU or resources in the background. blazingwolf, think this is something you could look into? I actually had to go out to buy an old-school alarm clock after going without one since I got a cell phone years ago because my Omnia froze sometime during the night and I woke up an hour late for work...

I've had the same exact issue since I flashed to 1.3 (MS3). I just flashed to v1.4 (MS3) today and hope that fixes it. It's rather painful as you don't know it's been dead until you try to use it the next time... missing calls.

Only apps I typically install are:

opera 9.7 beta 1

facebook 1.0.0.7

Pocketwit

Odd thing is, none of the installed apps have to be running to cause the hang. I've tried several tests where I reboot the phone and quite deliberately, run NO apps, touch nothing. On more than one occassion, the phone would freeze in a few hours. It's not consistent... sometimes I can go most of the day. But it almost always hangs at least once a day. Like I said, I just installed 1.4 MS3 and will see how that goes.

I plug my phone in at night and it does not do this, but when it's unplugged, it happens. I woke up this AM thinking it might be some weird hardware problem. BTW when I was running B&B, I went for two days before having to recharge the battery which was fantastic.

Going to reflash 1.4 today and see if the problem gets fixed and I'll post the results. Thanks all.

LargeDisplayStart.exe?

You guys aren't trying to run the large start menu from 6.1 are you?

What's weird is I can't duplicate this at all.

What ROM are you guys running when getting this? Neo or MS3?

The only time I freeze or go slow is when i am running IGO and my phone logs in & checks my e-mail.

Try disabling the email auto check feature and see if this helps.

Good Luck!

Interesting observation. I have not experienced a 'hang' while it's plugged into to AC, either. But it happened again this morning after being unplugged for a couple hours.

I'm thinking of putting the new stock firmware on for a few days and see if it's hanging on it as well.

That may be a good idea. I am an IT manager and we have a large fleet of Windows Mobile devices. We see simialr trouble alot and most of the time it is related to the reporting circuitry in the battery. The are actually some little logic circuits in the battery itself. I you have a battery that has been through many charge / discharge cycles you can get odd behavior. If you have another battery and can give it a shot, please do. If not, try letting it discharge as much as you can and recharge it all the way several times. I at least would be curious to see if this resolves it for you. It may also explain why BW nor I can reporduce the lock up. I have installed all the apps listed in the posts above and have not been able to replicate the issue. My Omnia has a new battery, however. I know it sounds weird but I have seen a new battery stop both lock ups and random restarts. After all, these guys are little computers and all computers are very sensitive to power fluxuations, it's just that we have power supplies to take care of that for us in big PCs, your phone's power supply IS the battery or whatever charger it is connected to. Let us know how it goes and in the meantime I will try and old battery and see if I have any luck with getting it to lock up.

Hi BW! Thanks for the awesome ROM.

I was wondering, if anyone is able to get the Remote Desktop client installed and working in this ROM? I installed the WM6RDP client but I am not able to connect to any server. It just sits on "Connecting..." indefinitely.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I am having issues as well. I had gone from 1.2 MS3 to 1.4 MS3. It isn't consistent and I haven't been able to track anything yet. Yesterday it just got very slow -- I assumed some application interaction and reset. I then reflashed and restored from backup from just after I had flashed to 1.4. This morning, it just stopped -- screen on in MS3 -- clock wasn't running, screen blanking didn't kick in. Battery was at 60%.

I have also noticed that ActiveSync is stopping on the device. It used to almost never stop. This even occurs minutes after it runs.

I did see the LargeDisplayStart in the task list, but didn't install it.

Next step is hard reset and rebuild.

Well, I reflashed and only installed wireless sync and still have the problem...worse now. But I do think the battery could be the issue. When I first got my omnia, the battery died very quickly and the verizon people seemed to imply that it was not uncommon. I am going to purchase another battery and see what happens. I'll let you all know and thanks for all of the feedback and help. BTW, each time it happens, my batter still shows charged but the power seems to diminish somewhat. Thx again!

Images from my 23025 and an image of a dialer issue that affects all phones. There are other issues that have been documented in the other 23025 ROM threads that is keeping me from posting this right now.

This is exactly why I use your roms only.

You take the time to test and confirm things are up to par before you implement them into your roms.

Others cooks add stuff and pray everything works without taking the time to test the functionality.

I notice that people that use your roms are business power users (all business here) and people that use others roms here on Modaco are flashaholics (usually students, nonbusiness users).

I have tried others just for the sake of educating myself but I always (wintin 24hrs) come back to your top notch roms.

Thank you so much for taking the time to make sure things work and being the reason why I am so productive on my Omnia.

Thats not entirely true to come to my own defense. i test a lot and have about 10 good users that i have test before i release!!

I think JAYCARL said it all.

Ive been thinking of maybe doing some fence jumping but but i guess its best

to stay in the corral for now.

I have questions concerning the GPS control on the Today page.

Where is this gps control program? Can I make any changes to it as far how long it runs or frequency of GPS updates?

I forget that I have it "on" and it seems to decrease my battery life period.

Can it only go "on" when we active certain programs such a Google map.and GPS weather.

Looking forward to the next ROM feast.

THIS IS NOT A KNOCK ON ANY PARTICULAR CHEF!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BAF GPS Toggle basically does one thing. Turns the GPS chip on or off. If you want more control over the GPS then look for a program called GPS Gate. It can be found here: http://franson.com/gpsgate/ It is a commercial app.

Thanks for the hard work BW. Like jaycarl I'm more of a business power user with multiple email accounts, long phone usage and even using it for presentations on the go (that always gets a laugh from the Blackberry users until the presentations start - then shock and awe sets in - I get more questions about the phone than the information I give them). We get to capitalize on your attention to detail because you won't settle for less than the best. Thats why you have such a strong following.

Bgill: I have also run your ROMs with great success so no offense.

Just some Kudos to you all for letting us share your great work. MSoft would do well to put you all on the R&D staff.

How do I get the BAF on the today page? Is it contained in the ROM or do I need to install it?

Thanks

If you are using the MS3 ROM then it is preinstalled and already on your today screen. If you are using the Neo ROM then you wil need to install it and stop using Titanium. The 2 will not work together.

My wife has the same phone and i dropped the same firmware (1.4/ms3) on it. It has NOT locked up. However, she rarely uses it for anything other than phone calls. I may try swapping the batteries and see what happens.

BW, is there any reason that installing the remote desktop .cab won't work with this rom? (ms3 version) I install it but I can't connect anywhere and don't get an error. Is there a dll file or reg key that maybe you removed that would cause this do you know?

I really really love your rom and want to keep using it but I also really need rdp for work purposes. Don't get me wrong, I have used many other chef's roms and like them too but personally I prefer yours. Awesome graphics, good scripting, etc but mainly because it is just how I would cook up a rom if I could... with one exception, the rdp client.

If anyone else can try this and see if it works for you, I would greatly appreciate it. I've tried both of the attached cabs direct on device memory without any luck.

Many thanks!!!
