Its a very foolish mistake on the part of Samsung. They spent all that time with the Wifi spotter UI design (not particularly useful BTW) and forgot one of the most crucial things, which is an option to display MAC address.

I cant believe that none of the beta-testers ever noticed that the option is completely missing. Its difficult to believe that none of them was never ever at a location, that had MAC address filter activated.

Anyway, back to your question Core: I know this for one of our local reviews of Samsung Jet (Which has the same wifi interface) the guy at the lab spend upto 30mins trying to find this information with no luck. So I suggest, you temporarily deactivate the MAC filter on your router and allow the Omnia to connect. Then is the Routers setting options you have a place to view "status" or "current wireless connection". Out of these you can write down the MAC of the Omnia, then add it to the MAC filter in the router. Now you can turn the filter back on and the Omnia will be able to connect.

You might as-well create a note on the device too and add the MAC address there, for future access.

Cheers.

PS: you guys that already own the device should call/write Samsung support to let then know that one of their wiz-kids (the stupid one that designed the WiFi module) forgot to add a simple, but critical option "View MAC address". They might not realize that this is missing even now. Also while you are at it, if you dont mind, add a line to encourage them to fire the other guy too, who was responsible for the decision to put the charger dock at the top of the device (with the stupid plastic cover) contrary to almost ever other device. Doesn't he drive a car, hasn't he tried to mount a charge it for say Navigation? Hasn't he ever seen a desktop-cradle? Idiot.

It's in Settings->Advanced Settings->System->Version->Device, under Wi-Fi.

Well, that's the funny thing. The guys at Samsung suggested that too but "Version" is not present in Settings on the Omnia II. I have several WinMos on different i-mates and HTCs and all have this but not Omnia II.

Any ideas?

maybe if you deactived the samsung touchwiz and that's why you can't find it. it's in the samsung settings programs.

and yes, you can find it in Settings - Advanced - System - Version - Device.

If u hv disabled Samsung TouchWiz, the default settings when u press start is WinMo's.

Just press the cube, Samsung Main Menu will come out, and select Settings. Unless u have re-assgned the buttons... :) . Else u will need to use any file explorer to go to Windows folder and run Settings.

To find the MAC address on my Omnia II i8000

Click Start

The menu page that pops up has a "settings" cog IGNORE this and scroll down one page

on this menu page is a "settings" cog with a BLUE inner circle > click it

(the tab text labels are only present when that tab is selected)

This brings you to a two tabbed menu page (that uses alot of neon blues).

The left (default) tab has a cog with a wrench as an icon and is labled Basic Settings

On the Basic Settings tab/page your will find:

Sound Settings

Display and Light

General Settings

Phone Settins

Motion Settings

Security

(you have to scroll down here)

Network Settings

Memory Settings

IGNORE this tab and choose the second tab

The right tab has a phone with two arrows (top pointing right, bottom pointing left) in the bottom right corner that is labled Advanced Settings

This tab only has three options:

System

Connection

Installed Items

Choose SYSTEM

This takes you to a menu:

Encryption

Error Reporting

Input Method

Managed Programs

Regional Settings

(you have scroll down here)

Version

Windows Update

Choose VERSION

This takes you to a two option menu:

Device

Windows Mobile

Choose DEVICE

This page has PDA, CSC and Phone IDs

Bluetooth IDs

Wireless IDs including MAC at the bottom

I swear, Samsung are even worse than HTC.

Seriously, how could they NOT find this in testing...do they do any testing at all!?!

They spend all this time designing that really stupid interface with the gay bubble icons, and then even include the bluetooth's mac info inside of the BT app, but not wifi...jeezus h cha-riest.  Samsung needs to hire one of us to test their phones.
