Guest somedude Posted July 26, 2009 Report Posted July 26, 2009 I feel that the battery that came with my omnia(the i910) had poor performance. I could barely get through a workday without hearing those annoying "low battery" beeps. For those of you lucky enough to have the Omnia II, what is the battery life like? Also i was curious about: Does the phone heat up when using GPS? Is the screen visible in direct sunlight?
Guest luxury Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 (edited) yes omnia 2's battery is definitely better! not only cuz of capacity but perhaps because of the type of led screen? imo omnia 1's battery wasnt exactly lousy with the latest firmware and 6.5 roms *forgot to say i DIDN'T use gps or wifi on my omnia 1. so you cant count my above opinion. 2's screen is definitely more visible under sunlight than omnia 1, i could see and read everything. great screen and colors. plus omnia 2 is reskinned to all black background instead of white. Guest somedude Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 yes omnia 2's battery is definitely better! not only cuz of capacity but perhaps because of the type of led screen? and omnia 1's battery wasnt lousy, if you had upgraded to the latest samsung firmware and latest sector wm 6.5 roms with registry changes etc to optimise battery. it would always last me through 2~ days of heavy usage. i haven't had the chance to test the gps yet, but i will soon. the screen is definitely more visible under sunlight than omnia 1, i could see and read everything. great screen and colors. plus omnia 2 is reskinned to all black background instead of white. I used at least three or four custom roms from adranlyn, blazing wolf, etc. And the output was always the same with battery. If i used wifi router on the train to work, it would eat up two bars of the battery, and it would be dead before the workday is over. And forget about using gps on it. I had to buy a supersized battery just to get the phone to last of 10 hours of heavy usage(gps, internet, internet sharing)
Guest FerdiBorbon Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 i kid you guys not when i say that the battery performance is 40% better....ive got the same apps i have intalled on my Omnia, and after listening to music and watching movies (basically not leaving the phone alone on the train) left my house with 100% batt, then getting to work 1 hour later only 10% has been used...on my previous omnia i would be 70% when i get to work :)
Guest luxury Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 (edited) agreed it takes ages for the battery to go down now, even while using cam/mp3/movies (and the black backgrounds on amoled screen actually saves on display light / batt?) Edited July 27, 2009 by luxury
Guest FerdiBorbon Posted July 28, 2009 Report Posted July 28, 2009 Also people there is a new feature already mentioned on the other thread that you can set cpu clocks to normal, low and high... mine is set to high all day everyday with my example above... theres also and option to turn off the backlight even less consumption...so battery improvements are huge... The thing i love aswell is the ability to charge via usb...properly ...my omnia i900 took a very long time to charge via usb...the i8000 does this alot better.

Also i was curious about: Does the phone heat up when using GPS? Is the screen visible in direct sunlight? This is the first WinMo phone I've ever owned; it was given to me as a gift. I worked on Windows CE in Redmond back when 2.0 was new and shiny; that should explain my aversion to Winphones since then. Anyway... Relevant data point: I've been in Singapore for almost three years. The Omnia 2 replaced a no-longer-functional Motorola Razr V9; just for comparison, the V9 was the worst texting experience I've ever had, built into an at-best-adequate phone. For what I paid for it though ($199 when most 'respectable' 3G phones were ~$400-$500 here in Singapore). The one indisputable Good Point about the V9 was the battery life; even with an hour or two of talk every day, and ~100-150 SMS sent and received every day, the battery was usually good for 4-5 days. Now the Samsung. This was given to me by a friend, who'd heard me railing for too long about texting on the Moto, and knew I didn't want to deal with the government-linked phone company (which I'd have to if I got a non-jailbroken iPhone). The first two days I had the Samsung were the best Windows experience I've ever had on any platform. And then the battery dipped below about 40% (which is what it reported after I turned it on last Wednesday) - and within an hour, it was dead. No beeps, no warning; the battery strength apparently just faded away into nothingness faster than Steve Ballmer can throw a chair. I plugged in the USB charger cable, got the 'empty battery charging' graphic, and left it alone for about 4 hours. I came back and tried to power it up; no joy. I plugged the cable into a different USB port, on a desktop rather than an AC-powered notebook, and left it overnight. In the morning, it booted just fine. All was well again from Thursday until Saturday - when the thing died again, after assuring me that it had nearly half a battery charge left. I'm hoping that I just got a lemon of a battery. I'm going to buy a new genuine-Samsung battery for the thing this weekend (not easy to find here). If THAT starts behaving the same way within the next 2-3 years, then the Samsung will find itself buried next to the ex-V9, and I'll go ahead and jailbreak whatever Apple's current model is. One more thing: Important but not always obvious when you're buying a Samsung or HTC or any decent WinMo phone is how much software the vendor has piled on to hide the WinMo stuff, and how often it insists on poking through. I am absolutely shocked that the basic WinMo apps - texting, phonebook, etc. - seem no better, visually or functionally, than in the WinCE days a decade or so ago. Microsoft may expect sheeple to buy WinMo phones just because they've been programmed to think that Windows on the desktop is fit for use; thank $DEITY the phone manufacturers know better and are trying to put stuff on that is actually, you know, 'usable'. Whodathunkit?

Whodathunkit? go article there. however, was wondering if u left any apps poking through any available connection n trying to listen for data all the while? it's strange that the phone will just go from 50% batt life to stone dead. it's a very interesting point to consider after receiving a new set of i8000.
Guest Rdy2Go Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 Much better than original Omnia, lasts aprroximetely twice as long as the Omnia i900 with the same usage pattern (my observation)

Hi, just a point to note. My Omnia 2 seemed to have that problem as well .. with 20% left, it shut itself down suddenly. I am suspecting it has to do with the USB charging from desktop/laptop. I have noticed that the battery level is inaccurate when it is charged from the desktop/laptop (even with my HTC Trinity). After I switched to charging from the provided USB charger adapter, there was no such problems.
Guest cypher1102 Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 battery life is awesome compared to my old phone n95-3. due to the fact that im using black theme which reduces battery consumption and S2U2 that prevents the phone from being turned on accidentally. before when i was new (stilll am new) my batter didnt last overnight and always died during the night. now with moderate use it will last me 1-2 days without charge. by moderate i mean using it for phone calls, listen to music via bluetooth (a2dp), and some youtube. heavy use it will last me to 1 day or day and a half. this is using the phone for gps, music, watch videos, check weather, email, etc... so far im happy :)
