Guest Adrynalyne Posted July 28, 2009 Report Posted July 28, 2009 no... i am using the GPS setting in the cam.exe.. i just use those other programs to place all my images on a map for easy viewing... make sense? This is where it tagged my photo. http://maps.google.com/maps?q=32.2036+0.00100169 Sorry, that aint it. :)
Guest limit77 Posted July 28, 2009 Report Posted July 28, 2009 Nothing different in the registry except for the DCF, which only changes the folder/camera name... geotagging still has me somewhere in France...DAMN!!
Guest usermmg Posted July 28, 2009 Report Posted July 28, 2009 don't know if it's worth mentioning but i also use GPS toggle to switch on and off GPS...
Guest limit77 Posted July 28, 2009 Report Posted July 28, 2009 don't know if it's worth mentioning but i also use GPS toggle to switch on and off GPS... ya, same here.... no go for me. Although, ... I wouldn't mind actually being in France. Summer has been non existant in eastern Canada :)
Guest usermmg Posted July 28, 2009 Report Posted July 28, 2009 ya, same here.... no go for me. Although, ... I wouldn't mind actually being in France. Summer has been non existant in eastern Canada :) so now that we have the same geotag option... i wonder what could be causing the offset??
Guest cheifkeiff Posted July 28, 2009 Report Posted July 28, 2009 (edited) Just tried it out on my i910 running Adryn 2.0 cf03 and it works i connect the gps first through garmin then went into camera turned on gps in settings then a little sat comes up in the top left same as what was stated earlier. when i look at the info in preview the Lat and Long was there and correct! edit:NM sorry same thing as everybody it put me in africa lol Edited July 28, 2009 by cheifkeiff
Guest eufouria Posted July 28, 2009 Report Posted July 28, 2009 Awesome, now working with no registry edits and JohnJayJrV's Camera.exe, thanks a ton!
Guest limit77 Posted July 28, 2009 Report Posted July 28, 2009 so now that we have the same geotag option... i wonder what could be causing the offset?? hmm...different ROM...you're on 6.5?? No idea. Did you do anything special after copying over the file? Multiple soft resets?? etc....
Guest dna550 Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 (edited) Hey great progress today! I downloaded the Camera.exe described here and fired it up. To my delight this executable does have the GPS option in the settings! So, with the GPS running, I took a picture and voila GPS Latitude and Altitude settings are there but Longitude is 0.0-0.00 My first question though is how to copy the camera executable to the Windows directory since I am getting a permissions warning and not allowed. I am running Vista :) ________________________________________________________________________________ A little later: Browsing around and found: SCH-i910\\\Windows\AppMgr\s0cks Camera\1A01.tmp Having renamed the file to camera1.exe and copied it to the Windows directory I was looking for a configuration for launching this version: <wap-provisioningdoc><characteristic type="Install"><parm name="InstallPhase" value="uninstall"/><parm name="SetupPath" value=""/><parm name="AppName" value="s0cks Camera"/><parm name="InstallDir" value="\Windows" translation="install"/><parm name="NumDirs" value="1"/><parm name="NumFiles" value="1"/><parm name="NumRegKeys" value="0"/><parm name="NumRegVals" value="0"/><parm name="NumShortcuts" value="0"/></characteristic><characteristic type="Registry" cfgnodetype="characteristic"/><internal-transaction type="Install"/><internal-transaction type="FileOperation"/><characteristic type="FileOperation"><characteristic type="\Windows\Camera.exe" translation="install"><characteristic type="Delete"/></characteristic></characteristic></wap-provisioningdoc> I edited this to be: <characteristic type="\Windows\Camera1.exe But, I could not overwrite this either and this file might have been a remnant of the install. ________________________________________________________________________________ Next I will tackle the longitude issue which is already being discussed. BTW, I opened a photo I took with the camera with GPS option with the installed version of the camera and no GPS data appears. that's strange that those files aren't working... my registry settings (GPS) is also set to (1) and when i open my camera right next to the flash icon there's a GPS icon that will be white when GPS is connected. Funny thing is, i got the camera.exe from this forum.. I'm searching right now for the actual post. Be back in a few. OK folks this is what i have. This Camera.exe file is 4 megs, so simply overwrite the one in the windows directory. BE SURE TO SAVE (BACKUP) YOUR ORIGINAL CAM.EXE FILE JUST IN CASE THINGS GET A LITTLE FUNKY. After you overwrite the file you should be able to see the GPS option in camera settings. All you have to do is be locked on to sats. and the GPS icon should appear on-screen when taking pictures. Guest missing2 Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 My first question though is how to copy the camera executable to the Windows directory since I am getting a permissions warning and not allowed. I am running Vista :) I just rename it to Camera1, copy it to windows directory, then rename it back to Camera.
Guest Adrynalyne Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 (edited) Did you try it? You cannot overwrite files in ROM with regular file explorer. It will take Total Commander, or Resco. Something like that. Edited July 29, 2009 by Adrynalyne
Guest natedawg1013 Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 (edited) I read somewhere here that only 1 single official i900 rom had a camera app that supported geotagging. I also read that that rom was replaced quickly with one without this support. For the brief time geotagging was available for i900's, they had the same problem--Perfect Lat, 0's for Lon. The camera app is hackable, as many have proven, so our best bet is to take the half-functional one, and work on it from there. Edited July 29, 2009 by natedawg1013
Guest eufouria Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 First thing to fix: SNCXXXXX naming format.
Guest limit77 Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 I'm surprised the 910 doesn't have geotagging - this may be 1 + the iPhone has over it. Then again, alot of phones have this. If any programmers can figure this out, it would be very welcomed.
Guest JohnJayJrV Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 Awesome, now working with no registry edits and JohnJayJrV's Camera.exe, thanks a ton! Thanks, but should give proper credit where it's due... usermmg posted this file..... jv
Guest JohnJayJrV Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 Just uploaded a foto to google picasa and it shows the location of the pic in the ocean off south africa! Back tot he drawing board... jv
Guest dwallersv Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 (edited) A bit more useful info for those using this modified camera app:You don't need to copy this over the ROM version of camera.exe in \Windows. It's a big file, almost 5MB, sucking up a lot of that precious device storage. It will run just fine from either internal extended storage (My Storage), or an external SD card (Storage Card). I recommend putting it on My Storage so that there's no risk of it not being there when you need it. Then, just edit \windows\start menu\programs\camera.lnk to point to the newer exe on My Storage and you're set. If you'd like, create another shortcut to get to the old camera (I did this, calling it, uh, "Old Camera" -- duh!).I have the same problem as everyone else -- zeroed longitude. I do note however that it is storing the correct elevation and latitiude, which is at least somewhat useful. The camera app is capable of widescreen video at screen resolution -- 240x400. To access this format, you need to edit HKCU\Software\Samsung\Camera\VideoSize. Why Samsung, in their wisdom (NOT!) leaves this useful, working flawlessly format out of the resolution choices is only for the Gods to know, I suppose. The supported values are:0x674 -- 4:3 aspect, 640x4800x675 -- 16:9 (widescreen) aspect, 400x2400x676 -- 4:3 aspect, 320x240x677 -- 4:3 aspect, 176x144 [*]There are some other interesting values in the registry, and I'm wondering what they do. A few that really intrigue me are BlinkDetection, CreateSurface, and Run. BlinkDetection seems self-explanatory, the other two not so much. I'm going to experiment with these and see what happens, if anything. However, if anyone has some intel on these settings, please share! I plan to create a mortscript to make it easy to invoke the widescreen video mode via a shortcut -- I'll upload it to this thread. Also gonna try and see if I can solve the "persistent settings" problem with some scripting -- dumping the Camera reg branch before the camera quits, then loading that branch again when it starts. Many of the settings people want saved seem to have entries in the registry, they just get initialized when Camera starts up. I'm thinking if I can start the app, wait a bit, then load those values into the registry that they might be recognized. We'll see. Edited July 29, 2009 by dwallersv
Guest Chris HF Posted August 13, 2009 Report Posted August 13, 2009 A bit more useful info for those using this modified camera app: I have the same problem as everyone else -- zeroed longitude. I do note however that it is storing the correct elevation and latitiude, which is at least somewhat useful. This has something to do with the fact that we are in North America ( negative values for GPS coordinates in decmal degrees. Has anyone found the fix? So close, it's so frustrating.
Guest RyanTheTragic13 Posted August 13, 2009 Report Posted August 13, 2009 This does sound very interesting. One of my favorite things about this phone is the camera, adding more functionality to it would be amazing. I would love to be able to take higher res panoramic shots....
Guest omga14 Posted August 15, 2009 Report Posted August 15, 2009 Very interesting with that Geotagging bit there. I find this something I would really like to do considering I'm stationed in Afghanistan. It would be a better way to keep track of the places I've been while here. Wish I would have known about this before so I could have tagged a few places I know for a fact I won't ever be going back to. This would help with that wall map in the garage plan with thumbtacs to everywhere I've been. I hope the 0 Lat issue can be resolved. I'm not wiley enough to help but I can wish you the best of success.
Guest dbsimms63 Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 I guess no results on this? Too bad, I was hoping you geniuses would figure this out, I know I don't have a clue in hades as to be of help.
Guest dbsimms63 Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 try the cab. file from the link i posted... one of them adds the gps setting just don't remember which one. You might also need to restart after replacing the file or installing the cab. First do you have an i900 or the i910? Secondly, can you download the camera exe fil and/CAB file directly into the phone, or can it be placed in my storage to conserve memory? Also, how do you "overwrite" the camera exe file in windows, exact steps would be helpful for all of us novices. Thanks
Guest KP Admiral Posted November 11, 2009 Report Posted November 11, 2009 Wrote an ExIF debugger because I wanted to know what exactly it was putting for longitude, as right clicking the photo in windows yielded a value that wasn't 0, but definitely wasn't correct. The results are as follows (posted all GPS ExIF tags) Tag ID: 0 [0] Data Type: Byte Array Count: 4 Data: 01, 00, 00, 00 Tag ID: 1 [1] Data Type: String Count: 2 Data: N Tag ID: 2 [2] Data Type: Unsigned Decimal Count: 24 Data: 43 (430000/10000), 5 (50000/10000), 56.2204 (562204/10000) Tag ID: 3 [3] Data Type: String Count: 2 Data: W Tag ID: 4 [4] Data Type: Unsigned Decimal Count: 24 Data: 429496.7295 (4294967295/10000), 429496.7295 (4294967295/10000), 429496.7295 (4294967295/10000) Tag ID: 5 [5] Data Type: Byte Array Count: 1 Data: 00 Tag ID: 6 [6] Data Type: Unsigned Decimal Count: 8 Data: 141.399 Tag ID: 18 [12] Data Type: String Count: 7 Data: WGS-84 Tag 0 - GPS Version Tag 1 - Lattitude Ref Tag 2 - Lattitude Tag 3 - Longitude Ref Tag 4 - Longitude Tag 5 - Altitude Ref Tag 6 - Altitude Tag 18 - Map Datum As you can see, EVERYTHING, including hemispheres are written properly except the longitude which is written as 0x10270000, 0xFFFFFFFF, 0x10270000, 0xFFFFFFFF, 0x10270000, 0xFFFFFFFF; The Max longs (0xFFFFFFFF) being the invalid numbers that aren't being written. Not sure if it's the Camera app, or just maybe the app not processing the GPS return string. Either way, anyone know if they fixed this on later i900 ROMs? If so, can anyone upload the "updated" Camera.exe from that ROM for testing?
Guest Maver Posted November 19, 2009 Report Posted November 19, 2009 So no i910 user has gotten it to work? probably has to deal with having different chipsets. i guess i have to go back to using the battery sucking gpstoday app
