Guest byutzy Posted August 11, 2009 Report Posted August 11, 2009 I hear that. My brother has a storm and it really is nicer than the other choices on VZW now. Only thing is the storm is kind of heavy and it seriously takes almost 5- 10 minutes to boot. I don't hardly ever turn my phone off so that wouldn't be a big deal. Verizon has something called "multi-exchange policy." As per that policy if you receive 2 defective devices within 90 day period and you report it to verizon for the third time you may qualify for a same or lesser value of another phone which has similar features. For example if you purchase your phone on 01/01/09. That one stops working and you get a replacement (certified like-new) device on 06/01/09. Then another one on 07/01/09. If the phone you received last starts acting up again and you report this to Verizon Wireless within 90 days from 06/01/09 you qualify for a replacement. By the way make sure you are not eligible for any other upgrade option such as early upgrade or alternate upgrade. And one more thing by getting another phone you agree to extend your upgrade eligibility for 20 months from that day. In your case if the one you get next is not working either you can qualify for a new phone (same or lesser value alike phone such as storm) What phone you qualify to get is almost always up to the person who is handling your issue. If the tech or customer service person is nice to you or they are nice to them they may get you anything you want. If you bi&%$ and moan you will get palm centro :) How do I know all this? I work for Flextronics. Purchased in late Feb so yea not eligible for any other upgrade options. And I'm always nice to customer support. ;) I seriously want to try and see if bricking it will get me an omnia 2 when it comes out. I'm so scared to do it though lol! My fear is that i'll brick it, and since you know VZW employees work off commission, they'll be like sorry all we can give you is a Saga... I'd be like nooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hmm almost would be worth it but it could backfire on you very badly. Ok, maybe not brick it with the CF03 flash, but only a PDA flash, like a custom ROM, so that it wont boot up all the way. That way if they say no, you can just say forget it, come home, and flash the custom ROM again and it will un-brickafy it, lol.. Yea right go ahead and try that and see if it works. I tested this theory before going to Verizon and both the CF03 flash and UMDL locked up after the phone had already been bricked. The phone was plain bricked, no turning back.

Call customer service. The people working in the store wont give a s*** if you threaten to leave to another carrier. The people in customer service would be more willing to help you out.

I get screwed by one of the tech guys. I broke my phone in a week and he basically said sucks to be you. After that, I talked to another lady, who just told me to buy insurance and gave me a new phone free for my trouble. They are never easy.
Guest andylyf Posted August 12, 2009 Report Posted August 12, 2009 Just make sure there's no police around when you are flashing and you should be fine.... :)
Guest necosino Posted August 12, 2009 Report Posted August 12, 2009 Just make sure there's no police around when you are flashing and you should be fine.... :) Did you know "flashing" is now considered a felony, and a sex offense? Yeah, so now being an ass and flashing someone makes you a sex offender, and could end up with you on one of those Sex Offender Registries for a minimum of 10 years! Shows just how messed up our legal system has gotten.. /rant

As much as I'd like to agree with you, it's hit an miss on the helpful customer service. I've dealt with some very helpful people in the retail store here. I've also had some pretty poor experiences like Level140 said, they had "sucks to be you" attitude about the whole thing, then walk back over and bs with their co-workers. Customer service over the phone has always been 100% in my experience.
Guest fitch220 Posted August 12, 2009 Report Posted August 12, 2009 I've purchased an Omnia not through Verizon. I had problems with the CF03 update the released and it won't boot anymore. Am I SOL or will I be able to get somewhere with Verizon? Wish I never did the update.

Umm since it was the official Verizon update they should help you out, not sure though. ________________________________________________________________________________ Well I have bad news and good news. Bad News first VZW *#@!ed up my replacement order and never ordered it. So here I am waiting for my new phone (which was suppose to come within 2 days, its been 3) and it doesn't come. Call up tech support and they say they have no record of an order just the info from when I was helped in the store. They are also now out of stock of Storms to send as a replacement. Good News They have the Omnia in stock to send!!!!! I'm also getting free Overnight shipping so it'll come tomorrow if it goes out tonight or Friday if it ships tomorrow, the tech support lady said she didn't know if it would make it out tonight yet or not. :) ;) ;) Edited August 12, 2009 by byutzy

So you're screwing the tech guy, and he doesn't have the decency to give you a break? I'd get out of that relationship.....sorry had to go there, I'm a smart ass by nature :D
Guest Hpizzle Posted August 22, 2009 Report Posted August 22, 2009 I actually tried to update my omnia with the Verizon software update for real. Not even trying brick it. At first it got hung up at 4% then asked if I wanted to enter Emergency Update Mode which I did but then got hung up at 16%. After 30 mins of waiting for any progress I resorted to pulling the plug, which of course bricked the phone. After the Verizon tech support at the Verizon store told me to dish out 50 bucks with Asurion I said $%&* that and called the Verizon customer service hotline and in 10 mins they sent me another phone which should come next Wednesday. PS A little tip I discovered if you ever need to call Verizon Customer Service. When the prompt menu starts talking, hit 0 followed by four #'s and then another 0. Transfered me to a live person in less than 60 seconds. No more waiting 30 minutes for someone to help you.

Am I SOL or will I be able to get somewhere with Verizon? Wish I never did the update. I bought my i760 from ebay. After about a month of using it, it just stopped working. Called Verizon, told them I bought it from them and they replaced with a refurbed. Still works perfect. Give it a shot

I can't believe how sensitive it is. It really really is comparable to an iphone. Like everyone has been saying, if iphone is 10 then my old omnia was a 4 or 5 (4.5), now it's an 8 or 9. Soooooo goood.
Guest aamon17 Posted August 27, 2009 Report Posted August 27, 2009 I bricked mine with the official rom & it wouldn't boot. I called VZW support, they walked through the required steps: soft reset, manual hard reset, remove battery, etc. Nothing worked. This was Saturday night after hours. They told me to go in a local VZW store @ 10:00 am when they open & get a new one. I went in, they tried to hard reset, it failed. They were out of them in the store & ordered me a brand new one. Shipped it overnight with an $8.99 charge that they credited back. It arrived Tuesday with the official rom already flashed & ready to go. So, yes, the phone is still under manufacturer's warranty & they will/must replace it IF there is no damage that calls for an insurance claim.
Guest DxTania Posted August 29, 2009 Report Posted August 29, 2009 My phone has bricked twice within 2 days of each other doing the CF03 update. The refurb I got a couple weeks ago came with the CF03 update... I really want to gethte Omnia pro could hard resetting potentially...brick...the omnia if you know what i mean or is there no way to tell what update the omnia got sent with?
Guest necosino Posted August 29, 2009 Report Posted August 29, 2009 I doubt they keep records of what ROM they send the phone out with. But yes, a hard reset -> Missing "My Storage" will result in an RMA..
Guest Itlooksfast Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 Usually the sensitivity of the phone is less after a while. The first time i got my Omnia..it was great then after like 2-3 months I see myself having to put more pressure on to make anything work. In any case...I really doubt that they will give you a Omnia II as a replacement phone. Unless it was like 6-12 months after the released date when the phone is almost obsolete lol
Guest msmith0957 Posted September 10, 2009 Report Posted September 10, 2009 soooo when is omnia 2 coming out?

How long does the manufacturer's warranty cover the phone, is it 1 year?
Guest DxTania Posted September 15, 2009 Report Posted September 15, 2009 How long does the manufacturer's warranty cover the phone, is it 1 year? Yes it is 1 year. Now does anyone know if a multi-fru with the Omnia can result in the new Samsung Rogue? Maybe a customer service call would be better than walking in?
Guest jaycarl Posted September 15, 2009 Report Posted September 15, 2009 Yes it is 1 year. Now does anyone know if a multi-fru with the Omnia can result in the new Samsung Rogue? Maybe a customer service call would be better than walking in? After 3 consecutive bad refurbs they will send you a brand new one. Sometimes though a bad Customer Rep will try to send you another refurbed. If they try just hang up and call again until you find the Rep that will do there job right.
