Guest mndgz Posted August 22, 2009 Report Posted August 22, 2009 I'm a proud owner of a Touch HD but leaning towards Omnia II lately. my concerns would be as follows: absense of a proper stylus with the Omnia II (I have to edit a few Excel docs zoomed out to 50% to be able to see the whole spreadsheet on the screen and was wondering would that be possible without a stylus on the Omnia II...I dont consider that monstrous attachment a stylus by the way :D) the glossy back of the Omnia II as opposed to the nice rubbery plastic cover of the Touch HD (I have an Omnia i8910HD as well and the back cover is a nightmare...nearly ended up on the floor a few times because its so slippery...is the Omnia II as bad..?) the amount of available RAM ( read somewhere that Omnia II only has 60MB available...thats a huge difference from Touch HDs 110-ish MB) the GSM/WCDMA reception (my house appears to be in a blackspot for GSM signal, none of the phones seem to get more that 1 bar of reception except for Nokias...how would the Omnia II rate on that?) looking for feedback from previous Touch HD users

I have concerns about about the camera/camcorder reviews I've read, most saying it's very poor. I am hoping to receieve my Omnia next week - I will do a little review of the two phone.

Guest carmod Posted August 23, 2009 Report Posted August 23, 2009 Touchwiz UI takes a lot of memory, after a while custom roms will begin appearing then the free ram will increase significantly. be patient guys the phone has just been released in some countries only. :D
Guest mndgz Posted August 28, 2009 Report Posted August 28, 2009 (edited) since there wasnt any decent responses decided to try it out for myself...should have it next week. Will report back then. Edited August 28, 2009 by mndgz
Guest mndgz Posted August 28, 2009 Report Posted August 28, 2009 just received mine today, way earlier than expected. Unboxed, put the sim card in, switched on and left to charge first impressions: pros: very solid build quality, attractive design (looks nearly as good as the Touch HD and way better than the I8910HD), lighter than Touch HD, brighter AMOLED display cons: charger port on top, might be a bit awkward when put in the in-car phone holder...the hardware buttons are the actual buttons, I prefer Touch HD's sensor ones... and the display is substantially smaller than that of the Touch HD :D will post more after using it for a bit
Guest ResiFe Posted August 29, 2009 Report Posted August 29, 2009 and the display is substantially smaller than that of the Touch HD :D I thought i8000 has 3.7'', Touch HD 3.8'' - is there really such a big difference?
Guest mndgz Posted August 29, 2009 Report Posted August 29, 2009 I thought i8000 has 3.7'', Touch HD 3.8'' - is there really such a big difference? It looks like quite a big one to me...
Guest ResiFe Posted August 29, 2009 Report Posted August 29, 2009 It looks like quite a big one to me... oh, thanks, you're right. But still, AMOLED looks better than LCD. Anyway, my i8000 is already on the my way, i.e. it's already in Germany :D

Anyway, my i8000 is already on the my way, i.e. it's already in Germany :D I'm thinking now to maybe keep the I8000 and Touch HD and sell the I8910HD  hard decision..but dont want to be carrying 3 phones, 2 is more than enough ;)
Guest alvinaloy Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 It looks like quite a big one to me... Not sure if it's a trick of the light but the Omnia II's display seems less reflective.
Guest ResiFe Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 Screen-protectors are still on on both phones, I think, you should better compare the displays having them removed...
Guest mndgz Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 Screen-protectors are still on on both phones, I think, you should better compare the displays having them removed... Just dont want to risk scratching them :D
Guest alvinaloy Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 Hope to see reviews about the differences between the 2 soon :D
Guest mndgz Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 I wont write a proper review, just dont have time for that...will just add my observations as I go along :D so far, I8000's interface, menus are way faster and more responsive than Touch HD's took a few pics with the camera, I8000's daylight pics come out small bit better than Touch HD's and in low light conditions I8000 is a clear winner because of the dual flash (having said that its nowhere as good as a proper xenon flash (Nokia N82, 6220c) but better than nothing) the I8000 sits more comfy in the palm of the hand because its narrower than Touch HD ( I would still prefer Touch HD's size just because of size of the display) and it doesnt feel as slippery as the I8910HD maybe because its thinner and its easier to get a better grip the loudspeaker on the I8000 is positioned in a quite awkward spot, on the lower back of the phone but having said that Touch HD isnt that much better with its loudspeaker on the back beside the camera
Guest alvinaloy Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 I wont write a proper review, just dont have time for that...will just add my observations as I go along :D Observations are good enough. What menus do you mean? TouchWiz? I thought TouchWiz is pretty slow compared to TF3D?
Guest mndgz Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 (edited) Observations are good enough. What menus do you mean? TouchWiz? I thought TouchWiz is pretty slow compared to TF3D? its actually not that bad...I would say its at least as fast as the TF3D, but now I have TouchWiz disabled so its absolutely flying through the menus, opening / closing progams, etc the only thing so far thats a bit lagging is the photo browser on the I8000...but thats purely down to software so not really worth mentioning cant wait to see any of the HTC's ROMs ported to the I8000 :D regarding I8000s speed, I have its processor speed on Auto Edited August 30, 2009 by mndgz
Guest mndgz Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 (edited) another thing HTCs are better at is software support at modaco, xda-devs...you just cant beat that... Edited August 30, 2009 by mndgz
Guest Quist09 Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 I've got the Touch HD and the i8910 and I'm growing fonder of the i8910 by the day (now that we can mod the firmware more). The big downsides right now are the limitations in personalising the homescreen and the lack of xt9 with the qwerty keyboard. And the lack of call recording. That and the fact that I just generally prefer WinMo. Still with its multimedia capabilities and speed, the i8910 beats the Touch HD hands down. How would you compare the camera and camcorder functionality of the i8000 with the i8910 in terms of (a) speed of taking snaps and (:D quality of stills and D1 video?

I didnt notice that much difference in quality between 8mpix and 5mpix, except for the filesize... didnt get a chance to properly test I8000 video recording capabilities yet....will report back in due course

Guest enriqueyang Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 theres no way touch hd can win omnia2, omnia 2 kicks touch hd ass hands down... somemore samsung camera is very nice.. and dun forget samsung omnia 2 is said to be running 200mhz for phone function and 800 mhz seperate processor... oh n omnia has internal hdd.. which htc touch hd DONT have..

Take a look at this. http://www.unwiredview.com/2009/08/17/no-1...a-hd-after-all/

These phones have digital storage: No hdd, which is analog, like a computer or lappy. The Omnia has additional internal storage - 2, 8 or 16MB. The advantage to this onboard memory, being it's faster than SD memory access for files and applications installed to the internal storage.
Guest Quang05BlkBoxsterS n Omnia Posted September 4, 2009 Report Posted September 4, 2009 got a chance to try out the I8000's network reception in very poor coverage areas...it passed with flying colors...Around 20% stronger reception than Touch HD or I8910HD Thank you for your initial comparison. How its screen visibility looks under the sun (I know it is not good but just want to hear from your side). Can you watch a DivX clips, listen to Fm radio or basically a media file with stereo BT headphones in TCMP or any player? Since N900 will come out I'll ignore the Omnia HD and get back on the O2 because I can port over all apps from i900. I would get the Touch HD last year if I did not ACCIDENTALLY buy the 16G i900 (just walked in a local store and boom saw it on the display, after reading its review just days before), and it came out before the THD. Now 16G O2 came out so I'll wait until more reviews on it with wm6.5. Have fun with yours!
