Guest dunbor Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 Hi! I just rooted my hero and added the updated radio - so far im happy with it. Since Im not a premium member I was not able to cook my own rom and removing apps I don't want, how can I remove the following apps (was not able to do so under manage/applications) There was no adb code to remove any of these in the first post, can you help me (annoying that apps I don't want nor use are clogging upp the menu and ram.)? Notes <- I am using AK Notes and don't need this one Peep <- I want to use a different tweet client Spare parts <- This you can uninstall, but are all the files removed or is the other method cleaner? Superuser persmission Titanium backup Voice Search Wireless tether Battery/Dice/Tip calc/today in history <- don't want these new htc widgets Thankful for your help!
Guest Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 I seem to be unable to bake a ROM, it keeps coming up with a file size of 0kb. :)
Guest Andcr Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 oh yeah! already an update downloading it now :) thanks a lot Paul!
Guest Paul Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 I seem to be unable to bake a ROM, it keeps coming up with a file size of 0kb. :) Try a different configuration? Ensure you are logged in to www.modaco.com too, disable noscript if you're using it... P

Guest D I Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 3.2 beta 3 works great! No need for a wipe after using 3.1 :)
Guest dunbor Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 Yes I did and thats how I removed footprints but there is nothing on how to remove the other apps I wrote about (except tweet, not sure if its peep?) He wrote in the post that one should write here and ask how to remove specific apps.
Guest keyra74 Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 eternal question, perhaps there's an answer somewhere but i can't find it why modaco doesn't appear in its mobile version since few releases ?
Guest Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 Try a different configuration? Ensure you are logged in to www.modaco.com too, disable noscript if you're using it... P Changing the config seems to have sorted it. Not sure why it's not working since it's the same config I used for other CustomCustom ROMs. FYI here's my config: REMOVED: Footprints, Mail, Market Widgets, Notes, Peep, Stocks, Sync, Teeter, Business Card Reader, WAP Browser, Boot Sounds, Disable Compcache, Stock Kernal Everything else ticked. My Browser is Firefox 3.5.7 and No Script was off.
Guest hally83 Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 Awesome ROM, cheers! So much free RAM now.
Guest starfarer Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 Yes I did and thats how I removed footprints but there is nothing on how to remove the other apps I wrote about (except tweet, not sure if its peep?) He wrote in the post that one should write here and ask how to remove specific apps. do list "ls" on /system/app folder with adb. It will print the installed .apk and their .odex files. Note the app's that you want to remove. The names are case-sensitive. I think: notes is AndroidNotes.apk SuperUser - Superser.apk ( don't see reason why you don't want this on phone) teeter - teeter.apk Voice search, Titanium backup, spare parts, wireless tether and new HTC widgets are installed on /system/sd/app so can be removed from settings->applications->manage applications. I removed: Launcher.apk (default android home if you only using Rosie) Quickoffice_HTC_1.0.1.apk ( if you want to buy much better Documents to go) Htc widgets like bookmark, weather, search, mail, message etc (check the names properly, I just keep shortcut of program so don't really need widgets) Mail.apk (this is Htc mail,as using K-9, didn't noticed any problem) IM.apk (don't know what it does or never seen an icon for this) HtcRingtoneTrimmer.apk (again as above don't know what it does and how to run) PDFViewer.apk (I've BeamReader which unfortunately is pay app now in update, and also Doc2Go viewer) Browser.apk (if you are happy with Dolphin or new xScope which is in beta) Weather.apk ( i just look at sky :) ) Calculator.apk (go much better and functional RealCalc) if you want and don't use then can remove HtcSoundRecorder.apk too. I didn't as find useful sometimes to record note. Don't touch anything that's Google :)
Guest ardagast Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 great job! 3.2b3 is soooo fast. No problems so far.
Guest milko9000 Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 I seem to be unable to bake a ROM, it keeps coming up with a file size of 0kb. :) haha, took all of a few hours to change from 'not bothering til 2.1' then?
Guest dunbor Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 Thank you for your help, works great now! However I have some problems/questions about this rom. The vibration feels much less (almost not at all) when typing compared to stock, do you experience this? (edited for saving battery maybe?) Is there a way to make it vibrate a bit harder because it was a lot nicer to type before. Am I supposed to feel that it is so much faster compared to the stock rom, because I honestly don't. The menu/application list feels a bit jerky/laggy - is it like this to you too? Google maps don't have multitouch with this release?? Instead there are two buttons for zooming, can I get the pinch method back?
Guest Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 haha, took all of a few hours to change from 'not bothering til 2.1' then? It's a fair cop.
Guest dr_ysp Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 hi paul i have a problem! when i try to log in using gmail account setting, phone is seems to using my sim data & not wifi data. earlier while initial setup there was option of wifisetup, that is gone now although i can surf the net thru browser>> any body got similar problem
Guest Henry Tan Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 Still no chinese?? Sorry to ask again..
Guest stevenz Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 (edited) I may be having a senior moment, but I'm no longer able to find the option to specify which of my Google contacts groups I want the addressbook to sync with, it's currently stuck on synching "All Contacts" rather than "My Contacts". Has this option disappeared with one of the recent builds, or am I getting brain-fade and have forgotten where the option is? 3.2b3 does feel a tad snappier than 3.2b2, the APN settings for this network that existed in 3.1 ex. Cyanogens list are still awol though. (Probably only a couple of people using a Hero on this network in this country anyway, so very low priority :) Googlemaps, wavesecure and Dropbear are ticked, everything else is bye-bye. Has anyone looked at optimising Rosie for this platform as they've done for the G1? I had a cursory glance but didn't get around to doing the resigning routine on it. Guest Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 I can't seem to see info anywhere, is there anything that does NOT work? If not, i'll be rooting and flashing this immediately. Thanks.
Guest JadeMonkee Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 (edited) The new roaming settings actually work well for me. I'm on 3 Australia, and when you lose 3G reception, you piggy back onto another operator's 2G network. Data is very expensive on the 2G network, so I used to have a 3rd party app (Data Controller) that changes the APNs when you leave 3's network, so that data stops working. An inelegant, but working solution. Now, with the new network options, it seems that I can now natively stop data when roaming nationally. Fantastic. I'm yet to test that it works, but I look forward to retiring Data Controller. The loss of the "use only 2G networks" was a small price to pay (I used to use it when my battery was getting low, or I was holidaying in a 2G only area). EDIT: Nope, the "Never" roam option didn't stop data when roaming on 3 Australia. Looks like I still have to rely on Data Controller ... Edited January 20, 2010 by JadeMonkee
Guest PhonePersona Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 Phone seems to be performing superbly thus far. Excellent job, Paul.
Guest Harbringer Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 Good job :) One thing, i can't find new HTC widget. I cooked my rom with the right option but .... nothing
Guest murdoch1 Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 Hiya Paul, just joined as a paid member. I had applied 3.1 but just upgraded to 3.2 and your work is fantastic. I only hope when official 2.1 is released we can look forward to a yet more quicker rom being released by you...... Also, I had wanted to download the Orange Stock Rom from your page, however it keeps saying file cannot be found........anychance you could sort this as I want to have the stock rom available as a backup should things go wrong somehow......Cheers again....
Guest paaland Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 (edited) While 3.1 was working fine, I'm unable to use 3.2 due to missing APN for my network. Seems the APN list is not applied correctly or something. UPDATE: Added the APN's manually and got data to work again, but only when roaming was set to "automatic". My provider has no network on it's own so I always roam, but as long as it's national that's ok and covered in my plan. But once I get abroad the charge is way off the chart. That's the reason I wanted to try the 3.2 beta. This new "only on national networks" roaming thing. But unfortunately that did not work. As soon as I selectd "only national" data cut out :) How does the phone know that two networks are "national" or not? Perhaps some list somewhere is missing my provider like the APN was missing in 3.2? Edited January 19, 2010 by paaland
