Guest Paul Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Because it's a '3' base ROM, and their 2G coverage is only provided as part of a roaming agreement, hence they don't want you locking it to 2G. P
Guest BTJ Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Aaaah... But why was this ROM chosen over the ROM used in MCR 3.1? BTJ
Guest Henry Tan Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Hi Paul, Just wondering any plan for releasing modaco's Eclair Rom? Saw Raider and Villian did up their own Rom.
Guest BTJ Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Because it's newer... :) P Newer doesn't always mean better.... B) BTJ

P The problem is that before flashing to first 3.2 ROM I had this setting enabled (so I'm using only 2G). Now I'm stuck on 2G. Any way to change it besides the obvious (wipe)? Couldnt find any app that changes it directly (all of them take you to the settings page). I know that many people use 3G only when browsing. 2G is a lot less battery hungry. Is there any way to bring back the setting ?:) Edited January 28, 2010 by yabolek

P Are the future ROM versions going to be based on '3' base ROM too? I'm really thrilled when I read about all the improvements in this version, but the missing "use only 2g networks" option is a kind of a deal breaker for me, because I'm used to switch 2g/3g often.
Guest Formel-LMS Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 @Paul: Now we are more and more with problems at turning WiFi Off. Could you please fix that? Problems with 2G/3G? did you tried to solve this in "Test Mode" Type to your Phone: *#*#4636#*#* Wait Select Telephone Information Got to: preferred Network and select WCDMA preferred now go back to home screen. solves this?

Wow, that is one interesting feature. I have changed this to WCDMA preferred and restarted the radio. I still seem to be stuck on EDGE, my nokia has full 3G signal in the same place :) I will do more testing but I think it does not work. However WiFi + y5 battery saver (which turns wifi on and off all the time) seems to be fine for me.... Paul: I think this '3' ROM is step backwards B) Maybe not having this option is the only change comparing to the older stock ROMs?
Guest cdcuk Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Hi guys, just installed the modaco rom, literally quicker!!! Just a quick one, any suggestion for getting the ip address of my device ? ( I would need it for sshing into it and I couldn't find any info about ip in the menu ) TIA Tommaso Settings -> Wireless Controls -> Wi-Fi settings -> tap the name of the connected network
Guest teknologist Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 (edited) Paul, I do experience occasional WiFi "lockups" when using Y5 and MCR 3.2b5 too...only way to fix it is to reboot... If I remove Y5 and do it manually it never locks ! weird... Edited January 28, 2010 by teknologist
Guest jucapo Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Please let us choose between white or black notification bar, i have a brown Hero and the black bar suits it much better! :) Thanks for the great work! I second that. I have also a pretty brown Hero. A white notification bar would be awful ...
Guest stripealipe Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Just wanted to add my update on this Beta5 ROM. I'm running a minimal bake on this ROM without the general rubbish such as Footprints, Stocks etc. I have also disabled Compcache for the first time which seemed to make things snappier and have now also done the internal Taskiller trick with the following values 1536,2048,4096,5120,15360,23040. I've been using the Modaco ROMs from the very first one he cooked up for Hero, and this has to be about as quick as it gets now. It's not even the speed, but the general reponsiveness. A joy to use! Nice one Paul and nice one Teknologist. I'm just buzzing in anticipation of the first Eclair ROM now...

Guest trashed78 Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Plase add nordic languages in 3.2, otherwise great rom and kitchen is the best..
Guest chucky.egg Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Since going with a kitchen build I've been getting several FCs and odd things... FCs etc I've gone back to a "standard" MCR 3.0 ROM, with no App2SD partition, and I still get the calendar FC, so it's not a 3.1 or A2SD issue. I've done some googling and it seems that it might be related to calendar content, not operation, so I've removed recurring appts from Exchange and will see how it goes.
Guest Salem Bahamdain Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Hello , Fore close for (HTC UI) when add widget (HTC Weather) :) Thanks
Guest teknologist Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 (edited) i don't have this Y5 installed and had a wifi lockup. When I uninstalled Y5 for a week or so, I didn't have a single Wifi lockup but I guess when I have to do it manually I do it less frequently than Y5... I realize my post may be confusing... ;-) Don't get me wrong, I do think it is more related to the frequency of the wifi toggling than the app itself ! Edited January 28, 2010 by teknologist
Guest Tuomo Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 I cooked myself a new rom with the taskkiller and memcache fixes. Do I need to do a full wipe, or is it okay to just flash the new update?
Guest kosmiq Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 There's just one problem with that - I want to keep the English interface and be able to use Polish keyboard at the same time; and that AFAIK cannot be achieved with MoreLocale. Isn't there an option for English (Polish) or something like that? It is for swedish at least!
Guest robert lindgren Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Isn't there an option for English (Polish) or something like that? It is for swedish at least! Have you actually got that working with swedish dictionary too? Hasn't been able to solve that myself
Guest Pippirull Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Have you actually got that working with swedish dictionary too? Hasn't been able to solve that myself It works for me. Only thing ive done is to choose english/swedish, and it worked out of the box :) Didnt know there was an issue with that, never experienced any problem at all.
Guest stevenz Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Hi Paul, Just wondering any plan for releasing modaco's Eclair Rom? Saw Raider and Villian did up their own Rom. As he's said a number of times, not until there's a proper 2.x HTC Sense source to work from. NONE of the current ROMs based on the partial 2.x leak(s) are _fully_ functional.
Guest Pippirull Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Paul, I think the taskkillerfix isnt working in kitchen. Just made an upgrade and the cat showed stocknumbers. Had to manually edit the teknologist.sh
