Update: I have sent 2 SMS to myself from another mobile phone, the HERO plays the notification sound but shows no visual notification , if I open the messages app. it doesn't even show the new SMS messages :)

I did a reboot just in case but it didn't help at all.

Can anyone confirm that they are running the 2.0 ROM and have not this problem?

I don't have this problem. SMS works fine with the standard Messaging app. I have some slight issues with chompSMS though, but not related to what you are describing here.

My install was done after a wipe, if that helps anyone. :)

I am not the only one reporting this, that's why I was curious about it, I haven't done a "wipe" , didn't have to until now, have been upgrading and never had this messages issue.

Handily i've recently had a vodafone femtocell delivered, so I can actually get a voda connection now!

Indeed, Peep doesn't work! Investigating...

I had ChompSMS playing up yesterday on 1.5.1, but the standard SMS app was working fine. Now using both standard and handcent on 2.0, no issues so far!

I can confirm standard sms and Handcent working fine. I've sent a report to the chompSMS devs, but I doubt they will make changes to the app based on errors from a custom ROM.

What would i type into the adb shell to remove HTC mail from the build?

I dont ever plan to use anything other than my gmail with this device, and am finding from taskiller that HTC mail always seems to make its way into background hogging memory!!

Also presumably HTC sync is next to useless if all my contacts are been synced to the google server, this theoretically could go also (ive spotted the command for this one!)

adb remount

adb shell rm /system/app/htcmailwidgets*

adb shell rm /system/app/Mail*

for htc sync:

adb remount

adb shell rm /system/app/PCSCII*

haven't experienced any problems so far with that.

Ok. I have been digging around a bit on my dictionary issue. I noticed that when Norwegian was selected as locale, keyboard language would still list only english, but it would not be selected (no green dot), whereas on English (Norwegian) it defaults correctly to the English keyboard and thus shows to be selected.

Digging around in /system/customize/CID/ seems to confirm that Norwegian should be listed.

My upgrade path was stock hero -> wipe -> install 1.5.1 -> install 2.0.

So to test i figured i would wipe again after installing 2.0 and now i can select keyboard language as intended.

Seems you need to do a wipe if you rely on non English language settings when coming from earlier versions.

Good work.

Still strange though, cause I have almost the exact same upgrade path as you. I had 1.4 before 1.5.1 though. I did mess around a bit with Custom Locale app when I installed 1.5.1, maybe that made the difference.

I have one of them too!

Great HSDPA signal, I've had a few problems with it, one the A-GPS (google Maps) thinks I'm in Paris, and the network time is also out! and if your sending a big email or uploading a big file it knocks of the 3G signal, but apart from that, its fantastic, I'm just outside of norwich, and get crappy signal from all the providers, so its really helped!

Any info on peep would be great!

Cheers Paul

Danish Custom Locale has missing translations and quite a lot of mistranslations.

Is it possible to access the system custom locale text files and edit them?

Thank you.

Updated to 2.0 and new radio from 1.5. All went fine, but still no feckin weather data for Leicester, though - unlike those la-de-da toffs in Nottingham :)

Removing HTC Sync

adb remount

adb shell rm /system/app/PCSCII*

Will this destroy exchange-sync or only USB-sync?

right now, i can't start either if i go to options/sync. but i do know that exchange sync was working in an earlier version. now there's just an error popping up, that the app has to be closed.

you could still try and reinitiate the update afterwards if something goes wrong. all apps will be reinstalled with the update.

Well this had to happen !! :)

Found a Few Bugs In version 2.0 core.

1> advanced task manager doesn't show memory info any more and force closes when system tab is selected.

2> sms widget doesn't go beyond the second sms, you have to recycle the widget to get it to work.

3> cant delete sms's from the widget.

Bricked Hero?

A friend of mine yesterday wiped and flashed 1.5.1

Today he flashed 2.0 without wipe and afterwords he applyed the radio 63.18.55.06EU_6.35.06.18

after the restart the phone stays on HERO logo...

Non of the combinations home+power or back+power brings him to the recovery image for nandroid restore...

Any ideas?

Relax.. Take a deep breath... and take it easy :)

Problems are not really problems if you see them as challenges :)

have you tried disconnecting the battery for a few seconds and then do a start with home/power?

Take the back off, take the SD card out, pull the battery out and put it back in whilst holding the home button, then power on. This worked for me, although it may have been psychosomatic. :)
