Hi all.. Been on MCR 3.2 Beta 4.. moving to Beta 5 right now..

First of all great work you're doing here.. this thing is FASTER with every build! ;)

- Found what may be a 'bug'.. and a strange one for that!

I've upgrated from MCR 3.1 to 3.2 Beta 4.. and for the last couple of days I've been finding a problem to Mount the phone by USB.

The phone simply starts charging and the USB Mount options never come up on the phone..

This thing is random.. sometimes it Mounting options come up.. sometimes no.. restarting the phone and PC doesn't help.

Tought the problem was my phone's USB socket going bad.. but on MCR 3.1 no such problem..

(P.S same happens on 3 PCs - Xp 32bit, Win 7 32bit and Win 7 64bit)

Don't know if I was clear.. and know it sounds 'stupid'.. but really can't figure out what is causing this thing :D

Made various 3.2 roms using the kitchen and ran into a few problems.

The main one was not being able to get rid of footprints when unticking it, just refuses to go.

After alot of dabbling im finally settled and happy with how things are setup. Well.... until the next beta that is when I get to play again.

Just checked the kitchen and footprints removed correctly for me....? ;)

@Paul

Just to let you know that I've tested a number of 2.1 based ROMs in the past few days, and am back to MCR 3.1 (waiting for 3.2).

They all suck as far as usability: they either freeze or reboot or lack basic features.

Apart of the "not above 3 Mpx camera and no bluetooth audio" (which I don't care) all those ROMs are a little more than experiments.

Having the proximity sensor working is nice, but useless when you need to cope with two or three reboots a day!

Nothing for real every day usage. And MCR is the fastest and most stable ROM for the Hero I've seen so far.

@EveryoneElse (EUR 0.01 contrib)

Stop kidding with fancy stuff! Need a really working ROM? This's the one for you.

If only it could get a really working wifi and FLAC support ...

+1

I tried one out, and there was some fun stuff on there - I like searching across the whole phone. But some criticial stuff like restoring SMS messages didn't work at all, and got loads of force closes.

Really looking forward to a MCR based on 2.1!!

I haven't used a stock ROM on my phone since the Modaco ones became publicly accessible. I see lots of other stock Heros out there and even on the latest official release but they're still sketchy. It's a shame it's a lot more difficult to unlock them as after 2 minutes of playing on my MCR 3.2 Beta, they all want to change even if it does ruin their brand new warranty.

for the complete newbies, these are the steps you need to take with a 'virgin' Hero:

- Download the patched recovery image linked above and install as detailed in that post

- Download this custom ROM, and copy it to your SD card

- Enter the recovery image (if you're not in it already) by powering on while pressing 'home'

- Select 'nandroid backup' from the menu to do a backup

- If you copied the custom rom as update.zip, select 'apply sdcard:update.zip', else select the option below.

- all done

If you would like to remove parts of the ROM that you do not use, see this post.

Hello Modaco,

Please forgive the newbie needing reassurances:

I have just bought and unlocked ( with thanks to & advice from XDA-dev) a t-mobile hero.

(build no: 1.76.110.6146733 CL47212 release keys)

it seems sensible to go with a new rom, now, before it gets all filled up with apps and settings.

However i am confused, in spite of the simple instruction quoted above. Among other items I feel I should get to know about (but don't know where to start) here is talk of:

  • whether to wipe (1.76 build)
  • whether to root (or is that included in the custom rom 3.1)
  • what does the patched recovery image do
  • nandroid posts include this description "a script that will enable anyone who has root on their G1 and has the engineering/dev spl bootloader [1] (or has a dev phone) + a recovery image with busybox and adbd running as root [2] " : so I am no longer sure what is appropriate or not for my particular hero.
  • at what point in the procedure do i install the recommended radio upgrade

please can you help a newbie become less new,

Alex

Is it possible to get the voice-to-text function on this ROM? Like on some 2.1 ROMs? ;) Like via googlebits? :/ Sorry, iam new at this :D

Hi,

I've baked a new rom, and it seems to be working pretty good. A few kinks, but that's probably me since it's my first time trying this. I baked it with the WaveSecure app, but it can't seem to connect to the server to register. I've decided that I don't want it right now, and is there any way to remove it?

Do I have to flash a baked rom without it? Would that work? Is there an easier way?

I know it's not supposed to be easily removed, but I've never registered there, and there's got to be a way to remove it?

It's annyoing when it pops up to register all the time.. ;)

Please help :D

Thanks either way for the time put into making ths rom. It's awesome :(

EDIT: Fixed it, removing com.wsandroid.apk from /system/app using Root Explorer, mounting it as R/W. :D

Hi,

Two minor annoyances:

1. Groups in Contact appear to have been dropped/removed -unless I'm missing something obvious?!

2. As already mentioned elsewhere, the native method for disabling Mobile Network, also appears to have

been dropped/removed (Yes, I know there are apps on market to compensate for this)

Lastly. I'll add my $0.02 worth to the ubiquitous "lag" debate.

IMHO compared to MCR this ROM does (subjectively) appear to be slower.

Can I suggest posting a brief "Known Issues" - should help to cut down on the multiple

reporting of problems - or maybe just open up a bugzilla to capture bug reports

I realize this particular ROM is based on 'leaked' code, but that doesn't really excuse not putting the source code out

in a source repository somewhere. The sooner the code is available the sooner the rest of us

can help by contributing to the effort.

Thanks,

M

I did untick a fair few things when making the rom, wonder if that had something to do with it.

I'll have another bash tomorrow.

i ran 3.1 only for a few days so i don't know whether those issues really exist in 3.1 but you said this appears to be slower than MCR? that would mean MCR is slower than MCR, which doesn't make sense at all. are you in the wrong thread again? But according to your "new thread made by accident" you really meant to reply it in this thread. ;) i'm confused

Kitchen downloads now include the MD5 hash of the file in the filename. If you're into that sort of thing. ;)

Hi,

Been using the MCR since 2.7 and I've been incredibly happy with it so far! (Initially used it as a solution to T-mobile's taking forever to release the HTC update).

However, since I updated from 3.0 to 3.1, I've not been able to connect to the internet using the mobile radio, only via wifi. I rang T-mobile and they can see my phone on the network, and they did some kind of network prodding to get it back on but it didn't do anything.

ut of curiosity I downgraded the radio back to stock - no effect. I then tried downgrading back to the stock ROM and it works perfectly now. Re-upgraded the radio to latest and still works, but back to MCR 3.1 and I've lost all ability to connect to the internet via mobile again.

As my issues started occurring in 3.1, I was hoping that I could get a copy of 3.0 to see if this resolves my issue. Is it still available to download anywhere? I've searched the forums but I can't find the option anywhere.

Hello,

I have installed the latest Modaco version available through the kitchen. I've selected almost everything in there, except the final two things which are recommended not to be selected.

I'm experiencing a very boring issue which consists of not being able to reconnect to my Wifi network automatically, I get something like a subtitle under my connection name which says: "out of range, memorized" (I am translating from Italian).

Moreover I saw that the widget to connect to the UMTS in case the wifi is not available is not in there anymore.

Can you pls tell me how to fix these two issues?

The network has the SSID hidden for security matters and to protect the data flow I use WPA 2 Personal.

Thank you in advance for help.

I solved the hidden SSID issue with http://en.androidwiki.com/wiki/Enabling_Hidden_SSID_Hack

Paul;

Just to let you know. Been running 3.2 beta 5 for nearly 14 days now, and it's by far the fastest and more stable ROM I've tested out! Excellent! ;)

Hi Guys.

Thanks to Paul for all his hard work, been following stuff for yonks on here right from the begginnning!

Ok, so I have 3.2 baked, but I did it over the top of 2.7. 2.8 then 3 and 3.1.

Therefore it didn't seem to remove the apps I baked with through the kitchen?

Do I need to format the phone and start from scratch again? If so how do I do that? I have cyagon recovery image on it if thats any help?

any help appreciated!

just wipe before u flash the ROM.

The apps you have installed to SD (like some apps that are on earlier ROMs) will all be there....maybe those are the apps you are referring to?

Just uninstall those apps. Many different ways....'Settings,applications,manage applications, uninstall......' is one route.

I use Process Manager's uninstall facility.

I'm encountering a problem when trying to flash using a kitchen baked and hope you can help please Paul? After installation the setup process force closes as I press finish. This leaves me with no SenseUI. Everything else seems ok but Rosie has gone.

I'm excluding:

Voice Search

Footprints

Market Widgets

Stocks

Teeter

Titanium Backup

WiFi Status Indicator

Everything else is default values.

I've done a full wipe including cache. I've also re-downloaded the file and tried the whole process again but the same thing is occurring.

Cheers mate.

EDIT

------

Nothing to do with the kitchen sorry. It seems like RA-hero-v1.5.2 is not wiping for some reason. Will create another thread wabout this.
