Guest ippoP Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 Did you ever use 2.2? is it faster than 2.2? Yes it is. No hiccup in the GUI, applications start quickly and menus respond almost immediately to input.
Guest MetotRon Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 Here you go! Is this voice search that available in 1.6 Android and could be installed to any Hero, no mater that CID it has?
Guest Krissi Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 Updated with 2.5.1 and new radio over 2.3 last night. My Hero's got a new life; faster and much more responsive in every aspect. So far, no issues. Thanks Paul! You're doing great work! :)
Guest Mike Beecham Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 Installed last night and have to say that I'm REALLY impressed with the increase in speed. I've updated the radio also, and time will tell how much better / worse it is compared to my 2.3 setup. Trying it last night SEEMED to be dropping connection a lot, but I do live in a big, old house and I could have been in a bad part of the house signal-wise (in bed, so couldn't be bothered to get up!) All in all...so far, so good!
Guest jamesdean Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 (edited) Here you go! Guest phillevy Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 (edited) I seem to have a problem which I'm sure has been solved elswhere (can't seem to find it) with the message widget only displaying 2 messages when it is first loaded as part of a scene. If I delete the widget and add it again it works again, but this happens every time so I'd be grateful of a solution if anyone can help. Edited October 9, 2009 by phillevy
Guest jonathanmusto Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 Same problem here: I can see paid & free apps, no problem, but not protected apps. Even the apps that I bought ! Examples of protected apps: "autostarts", "talsms", "picsay pro", "photo burst", "camera zoom" ... I never had this problem until today. Reverting to a week-old nandroid backup (of MoDaCo 2.2) did *not* help, so I suspect a server-side issue ? After upgrading to 2.5.1 it worked for 1-2 hours, and now I don't see these apps anymore. If someone has a magic trick to fix this Market problem, please share... I've updated to 2.5.1 and still can't see these apps. It's a strange one, I don't think i'll go back to 2.2 since it didn't help you. Here's hoping its a server-side issue... Have you managed to find anything more out?
Guest Paul Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 I fixed it by doing the steps mentioned previously - close market, wipe cache, reboot. P
Guest soopahfly Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 Thanks! Installed no problem from the latest Orange rom.
Guest opteron165 Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 Why is my wireless tether for root users Touching the "Press to start tethering"、"Allow" Occurs after "Unable to start tethering Please try again" There has always been unable to use the............... My English is not good sorry. Please Help Me thanks! and 2.51 rom can add Chinese IME ?
Guest Beekhouse Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 (edited) Hey Paul great work man! One little thing, is my problem with Wifi not working in the standard hero browser a Radio issue? Because when i roll back to 2.2 with the newest radio Wifi is working again. It's very very strange. Not simply a matter of clearing Market's cache, since I tried many times to kill the Market and clear its cache: killall com.android.vending rm -rf /data/data/com.android.vending/cache/* I tried rebooting, setting different providers in MarketEnabler, etc. I even tried without MarketEnabler, then I see no paid apps (which is normal) but also no protected free apps ! But it doesn't happen for everyone: my wife's Hero (identical to mine) is on MoDaCo 2.3 and shows these apps. Also, yesterday on 2.5.1 it was working ! This is crazy... Guest kosmiq Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 Thanks a lot for this Paul. Went from 2.2 and the Radio that was the newest at the time. Partitioned SD, flashed new radio and new ROM. Works wonderfully. Better WiFi, faster and just great. Thanks for the hard work! :)
Guest ippoP Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 Paul, the problem with the WiFi is a real bug! More details here: http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-hero...anymore-solved/ Anything else Iǘe used so far is perfect in MCR-2.5.1
Guest yoavf Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 Wow - I was using 2.2 up to yesterday, and 2.5(.1) is fast!
Guest jgtthd Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 i know that aps2sd is built in with pauls roms and i have partioned my sd card as per directions and i know it's all working ok b/c when i take out the sd card my apps don't work any more - does anyone know WHY though the internal memory is so low and drops everytime i add new apps?? i thought it might be the cache but i use the ta utility but still my internal memory is very low and drops with new apps. please help/advise!!!! thanks everyone.

Guest Keramidas Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 Still no joy for me, i'm at a loss now... (...) nandriod restore to 2.2e Still no 'autostarts' (or paypal which i installed yesterday) (...) 5. Is the next step a wipe??? (...) Same as you. Restored nandroid backup from 8 days ago (to 2.2) and problem persists. There *must* be something that changed in the last few days. And it *cannot* be the phone, because after the nandroid restore, every single byte of phone's flash memory (except the sd card) is identical as last week. Therefore the difference *has to* be on Google's servers. I don't see any other explanation. - is the problem tied to the google account ? what if you configure your phone to a different gmail account (don't know if wiping helps for that), and try the Market again ? - could the problem somehow been triggered by some fingerprint mismatch since our upgrade to MoDaCo 2.5/2.5.1 or was it simply a change on Google's side ? - maybe the problem is resolved on Google's side, but the incomplete list of applications is still cached on google's side ? (unlikely - but verifiable by trying another google account on the phone) ? Do you have other ideas ?

It looks like the exact order of the partitions (three as far as I remember) is important, as well as the type of filesystem on each. That is: partition1: fat32, partition2: ext2-ext3, partition3: linuxswap. Maybe you can skip partition3.
Guest Beekhouse Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 Yesterday I couldnt find the autostarts app in 2.2 and 2.5.1 but today I can and I changed nothing so its a temporary google thing I guess.
Guest Keramidas Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 Yes the 3rd partition is optional. You can just define 1-FAT 2-Linux(ext2 or ext3) and use a swapfile on /system/sd if desired. According to my tests it is best to have a swap size of ~24MB, and to set /proc/sys/vm/swappiness at 0. It would be cool (for Linux users) if we could use ext2 instead of FAT too - I haven't tried it - but I don't think it's supported.
Guest bunt83 Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 Just upgraded from 2.2 2.5 is FAST, everything seems to be working GREAT!!! Thanks Paul...
