Guest ippoP Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 Paul, is the installed Wavesecure a demo version or is it a free (as in beer) one? I'd like to see the actual differences from the previous MCR version, whatever it is, not just from the last major. Most of what is written in the main post has not changed from the 2.5.1, which is a little bit confusing. IMHO.
Guest Paul Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 The only change for 2.6 is the addition of Wavesecure, which is a full (Beta) version. I am actively working with Wavesecure to get the best possible integration of the app with MCR. I decided it's cool enough to warrant posting straight away... :) P
Guest bluecat69 Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 I'm running 2.2 at the minute, as i'm not going to upgrade until all the issues that everyone's having are resolved and fixed in one of the releases. However, i'm getting a little annoyed with everynow and again when i power off the HERO it's forgetting the Facebook login details and i need to manually log in again! It's remembering my twitter ones, just not the facebook ones, which is annoying as all my contacts are linked with Facebook and it obviously won't pull the info from there.

But the release notes say much more! This is confusing!
Guest joransrb Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 thanks Paul, great update :) keep up the good work :(
Guest bunt83 Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 I updated Advanced Task Manager this morning and ended a couple of tasks that were running in the background i.e. the stock messaging app because I use Handcent SMS. After a while I experienced a multiplie force close loop, which meant I had to reset my phone... Is there a known issue with Advanced Task Manager and 2.5.1?? Not that I need to use Advanced Task Manager much anymore thanks to the super fast ROM! But it would be nice to know that I COULD use it if needed without crashing my Hero...
Guest domifer Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 Hi Guys. I updated my Hero to the Modaco ROM about 4 or 5 weeks ago. Is this the latest one? If not is it worth updating to the current, will it run faster? Finally has anybody tried the new Orange Rom relsease? Is it worth switching to that? Cheers guys Hi I assume you know how to count and are able to identify numbers, thus version numbers, 4-5 weeks ago version number was probably somewhere between 2.1 and 2.3 , so if you see 2.5.1 what does that tell you? :)

I upgraded from 2.2 to 2.5.1 and I have no problems at all. Thought the new radio screwed up but I just reflashed 2.5.1 again and after that everything works great. I'm more than happy!
Guest domifer Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 (edited) Version 2.6 is now online. Changes: MCR now includes Wavesecure in ROM, allowing you to lock / locate / wipe your device remotely in the event of loss and be notified if the SIM is changed. The application cannot be uninstalled by a thief and we are actively working with Wavesecure to ensure that in a forthcoming release, your settings will survive a hard reset! The Chinese version also returns, I am uploading this now. P Thank you Paul! One question though: If WAVESECURE is included in the enhanced version and I have the 2.5.1 enhanced, do I still have to upgrade the core version or is it enough to apply the 2.6 enhanced update.zip ? Edited October 14, 2009 by domifer
Guest Paul Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 Note that enhanced is an addon pack to core. You should always apply the appropriate core before applying the enhancement pack. P

Guest Laocoon Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 I've updated to 2.5.1 and I've noticed that the "Confirm email deletion" parameter is not used when deleting an email from the widget. Can anyone confirm this? Cheers, Steph
Guest Paul Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 This seems to be an issue in the HTC build I am using as the starting point for my ROM. P

Lots of people on here have reported various little issues with 2.5.1, so until there're sorted i'm happy with 2.2, it just quite simply works.

Guest bluecat69 Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 I'm a little confused about this Wavesecure being added to the ROM. Lookin at the website it's already available to download for the handset and it is a subscription paid service not to mention it eats up a little more battery (3%). Having it in the ROM what will it mean for the user, will we have a choice not to use it and in doing so i take that it won't be actively eating the battery or will it be like just a pre installed app like the others you've added. It does look pretty cool though in protecting your data through a lost phone.
Guest kendon Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 paul, what about ssh? is it active in 2.6?
Guest AlThePost Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 2.6 Core installed over 2.5.1 with no problems. I've just done a quick "round-the-house" check and all included/installed apps work as expected. Wi-fi browsing still okay too. Once again, thanks Paul.
Guest Paul Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 No, SSH running didn't make it into 2.6 - I did fix the permissions on the dropbear executables tho. I'm still figuring out the best way to do the password - I might have a password randomly generated at first boot and visible in the device 'about' screen. P

I have closely watched the battery usage scenario and have seen no noticeable impact. P

Guest rico2k_uk Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 updated to 2.6 (works well!) and still not having any problems that others are talking about. Anyway, have come across a new issue tho. Whenever i do an upgrade, i do a nandroid before and after. Now after installing 2.6 it wont let me do a nandroid backup. Comes up with the error: Performing backup.. Error running nandroid backup. Backup not performed. Have rebooted a couple of times to make sure the SD card is not badly mounted or anything.
