How did the radio screw up?

Lots of people on here have reported various little issues with 2.5.1, so until there're sorted i'm happy with 2.2, it just quite simply works.

After flashing RADIO and then 2.5.1 I had a problem that whenever I tried surfing, facebooking, marketing or anything really that was surfing the web in one way or another it would get socket errors in the FB app, the browser would simply stop etc. I could close the app and then try again and it would work for a short while. However since I reflashed the rom 2.5.1 everything works as it should and the problem is gone. First time it could be because I flashed RADIO and then 2.5.1 without rebooting the device. Still, no problems and all is working fine now.

i also have the new radio but my phone constantly drops the data connection.

on the web or market it just looses the date fix for about 10/20 seconds and then it's back but it happens non-stop...

Wavesecure is free for Android on Market. But for how long? Will I still be able to use this version after they make it a paid app?

Thanks for a great job Paul

If / when they make it a paid app, i'll see what I can negotiate... :)

Paul,

Do you planing to build a new ROM based on Android 1.6, if YES when it could be available online?

Where is Wavesecure installed, I have no interrest in it and I'm trying to remove it with adb, but I cant seem to locate it (not in /system/app/ anyway)?

then why did you install it in the rom??? Bit of a stupid thing to have done! Reinstall the older rom.

Wifi problem still there, dont you have any idea how to solve it Paul?

I restored nandroid backup of 2.3, wifi working in browser! reloaded apps, wifi had stopped.

Removed all my apps still not working, did a wipe, working again.

Flashed 2.5.1 wifi still working in the browser.

Reloaded apps one at a time (leaving of any wifi based apps).

All working fine now, it must have been one of the apps or a combination of what i had loaded.

Hope this helps

If this wavesecure is installed as part of a ROM like this, does that mean it's forever there or could we later remove it with a flash of a different ROM? Past experience of these things on laptops is that they're irreversible, and I'm a little bit nervous about doing that to my phone. I'd prefer it as an option.

Not until there's a Donut ROM to base it on! :)

Got the recovery image permanently on the handset as per some of Paul's instructions, which is pretty handy. Installed 2.6 and the enhanced pack OTA - pretty cool being able to do ROM updates on the fly!

Have reinstalled the latest radio and will test the wifi connection from home tonight and see how it performs.

PS: To the guy who had problems doing a nandroid backup - I had this problem a couple of ROMs ago (so doubt it's linked to the ROM). Tried it today and thought to meself, not sure how much space it would need on the SD, so cleared some, ready like. Went without a hitch - so could it just be you don't have enough space to put the backup file into on your card? (Unless I've got it wrong and the backup saves to the handset)

Was thinking that the wifi issue must be a fault in the browser as other softs work absolutely fine over wifi. Then tried using Backgrounds app from the market and also Steel and got same issues (but works ok for mail, market, opera mini etc). Anyone know if Steel, Backgrounds app and the browser share common files? That could perhaps identify the problem...

Wavesecure is at /system/app/com.wsandroid.apk in case you wish to remove it! :)

Hi I assume you know how to count and are able to identify numbers, thus version numbers, 4-5 weeks ago version number was probably somewhere between 2.1 and 2.3 , so if you see 2.5.1 what does that tell you? :)

Yup it tells me I'm a bit dumb. Just didn't realise new ones kept coming out and didn't know how to find out which one I have. My biggest gripe is speed, do the Roms get faster with each upgrade? I'm a bit of a noob so don't want to risk upgrading and ballsing my phone up if not much difference.

Perhaps to help in bughunting and the continued development of the Modaco-ROM?

Well since I started answering you I might as well continue, I don't think you are dumb, it's just a plain fact that many people do not take the effort to read the details, whenever Paul uploads a new version you can see the version number and the new add-ons or fixes , also if you scroll a bit down you will see that he has a second entry (first page of this thread) in which he keeps a history log showing the differences between each version.

Not always a higher version is a faster one, many of us experienced a slow down when upgrading from 2.2 to 2.3 but 2.5, 2.5.1 and 2.6 are definitely at least as fast as 2.2 was.

Hope this answers your question. If you feel unsecured with all this you really do not need to upgrade all the time, maybe whenever a "milestone" version comes up, meaning some real big changes in the system, firmware or in added applications.

there are already loads of donut roms out! see: http://theunlockr.com/downloads/android-do...s/android-roms/

Indeed! However, NONE of them are for the Hero. We have to wait for HTC to either release a Donut ROM or the Hero kernel source.

EDIT: I'm well aware of the Donut for Hero experiment on XDA - it's very far from working.

gotchya - i though the main man Paul would be able to make the adjustments for the HERO but i have heard it's more complicated than that. say on twitter though that they are working on donut for the hero so fingers crossed it will be soon.

Nope. Following everybody on Twitter too.

Lox says he'd fed up with trying to get Donut on the Hero. HTC have indicated that Donut is going to happen, but not when... And everybody else is screaming at HTC to release the kernel source (try searching for "hero kernel" on Twitter :))

Maybe being paranoid, but if Wavesecure is not required then surely use 2.5.1 instead. As a result of the OP's question, there is now a way of removing the app online for all to see :(

I doubt the average phone thief (or random finder) is gonna get the setup required to remove an app from the system partition!
