Guest Keramidas Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 (edited) Ok, I defined a nice "custom" locking text on the phone, which includes all buddies' phone numbers. When I activate the lock from the phone itself, that "custom" text is shown on the screen. Good. But I guess nobody will use that very often (?) EDIT: Ok, of course that "custom" text is also shown when the SIM card is replaced. But read on ... Now the important part: when locking the phone remotely, a different (and length-limited) locking text can be edited on the web site (eg: call 911 etc). That text is then displayed on the locked screen. Ok nice, but is there no way for WaveSecure to also show my "custom" locking text (with all buddies' phone numbers) on the same screen ? Did I miss something ? PS: the short locking text (as defined on the web site) might be useful as a means of one-way "instant communication" with the burglar... but why is the rest of the screen blank, instead of showing my "custom" locking text ? Guest Salski Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 With regards to hacking the lock screen....I cant do it. I KNOW what the guy is on about, but within 3 or 4 seconds of accessing the Widget area, the lock screen returns. Yes it's a bit hard to reproduce but I managed to do it at least 2 times. Just tried it again and didn't succeed hacking the lock...

Guest Keramidas Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 Is there a description somewhere for android of where settings are kept? 2.6 wont go on my phone (from 2.3) without a wipe and i'd dearly love to keep my sms's and wifi (screen layout, contacts and mail settings would be nice also, but I can live without them). I think sms is /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db, but im not 100% certain. I think you found the sms/mms DB file correctly, but I don't know of an official documentation about this. MyBackup Pro (trial version) can backup/restore all that, including your desktop icons, and it works on any ROM. "backup for root users" should work well too, but only on modaco and cyanogen ROMs, because it uses busybox commands.
Guest Paul Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 "Backup for root users" (renamed to 'Backup' on the launcher at my request!) will be in a future MCR, together with a handy guide to making the most of it! :) P
Guest noobsen Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 not for me... ive installed the 2.6 extended ROM along with the newest radio. the "phone info" tells me it worked fine - but: im not able to get root access (su: permission denied) and i had to install wavesecure manually by installing it as an app via m.wavesecure.com so it now can be deinstalled by the apps management... before modaco 2.6 i had no custom roms yet so i didnt wipe it, maybe this coulb be the point? anyone? :)
Guest kendon Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 before modaco 2.6 i had no custom roms yet so i didnt wipe it, maybe this coulb be the point? A 'wipe' is MANDATORY when installing this ROM if you are coming from pre MCR 1.2 or a stock 1.x ROM, and you MUST do this BEFORE applying the update zip (as the update zip puts files on the data partition)! i guess it's worth a shot...
Guest noobsen Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 soo.... NOW it sounds logical to me. seems to be worth a try :) reporting...
Guest Deegzor Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 My hero lags when i compose a message and when i scroll down when surfing in the internet and also when scrolling down the applications and numbers. Does your heros lag? and i'm using the modacos latest rom
Guest noobsen Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 beat me for asking dumb questions.. but hoe do i manage to "wipe" my G2 completely? reseting to factory defaults just remove all my custom configs but not the custom rom itself...?!
Guest noobsen Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 ive flashed my hero again but now it keeps rebooting all the time. WTF? after the android-htc-logo the sim-lock-screen appears, screen keeps locked and five seconds later my G2 restarts. wtf... everything broken? :) :(

WTF? after the android-htc-logo the sim-lock-screen appears, screen keeps locked and five seconds later my G2 restarts. wtf... everything broken? :) :( Mine did that yesterday when I put the MoDaCo ROM on my Hero for the first time. The phone just stuck in a loop of starting and restarting. In the end I loaded the Chinese ROM, which worked. Its definitely a lot quicker that the T-Mobile ROM the phone came with
Guest Takigama Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 ive flashed my hero again but now it keeps rebooting all the time. WTF? after the android-htc-logo the sim-lock-screen appears, screen keeps locked and five seconds later my G2 restarts. wtf... everything broken? :) :( Yeah, mine does the same thing... something in the way the 2.6 rom goes on doesnt really accept some of the stuff thats in the previous rom (in my case 2.3). I figured out alot of it has to do with the db's on the phone. In my case, theres a database called htcCheckin.db that in my 2.3 rom is perfectly ok, but doesnt work with 2.6 (causes the system service to crash). I ended up getting the htccheckin db from a wipe on 2.6 and re-setup, then you can get to the home screen (i.e. it'll stop the crash/reboot of the main display). But, it was the beginning of a whole host of problems for me cause once I got that working email syncing no longer worked, and so forth If your feel dangerous, do the following: 1) nandroid backup and then upgrade to 2.6 2) wipe 3) go through the setup 4) get an adb shell and run "cp /data/data/com.android.providers.htcCheckin/databases/htcCheckin.db /sdcard" 5) restore the nandroid backup 6) do the upgrade (again) 7) get an adb shell and run "cp /sdcard/htcCheckin.db /data/data/com.android.providers.htcCheckin/databases/htcCheckin.db" and cross your fingers But my advice is wipe and start again or stick with the rom your currently on, the modaco rom's just dont seem to upgrade databases as they increment through versions.
Guest tone-fu Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 Great ROM as ever, Paul. Wavesecure is a fantastic app, works like a treat.
Guest ChrisBod Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 Just out of Sheer curiosity....... Why would I want to install this custom ROM? What are the advantages (in layman terms)..... I have a T-mobile G2, which has been updated with Paul's unbooted generic ROM. What improvement will I benefit from?

Guest ChrisBod Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 Cool.... So which rom do I need to get? I asssume its the one without the chinese support? and do I install it the same way I installed the t-mobile one from this forum? Are the latest radios included? Is it worth installing the enhancements?
Guest wuka Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 Hm, just flashed v2.6 but I still have the problem with network sharing, DNS seems to work but nothing else. :/
Guest Paul Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 I added a 'coming in next release' section to the changelog! P

Guest clarkEEE1 Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 Paul, would you be able to get the voice search working in 2.7 again
Guest chucky.egg Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 Anyones Nandroid backups working in 2.6? I had an odd (possibly self-inflicted) calendar issue last night. Did a nandroid backup, wiped, tried to restore... but if failed and refused to restore (bugger) Anyone feeling brave and want to give it a try?
Guest ChrisBod Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 (edited) in the order of your questions: mcr2.6, probably yes, yes, no, depends. Thanks Dude! Wish me luck! Have I gotta partition my SD Card before I install mcr2.6? Edited October 16, 2009 by ChrisBod
Guest clarkEEE1 Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 Thanks Dude! Wish me luck! Have I gotta partition my SD Card before I install mcr2.6? Apps2sd is optional you don't need it for 2.6 it saves using the phones internal memory that's all. I'd recommend having it done though.
