i got it! how it worked for me:

update to 2.6

wipe

update again

format the sd and reformat it to ext3

point is the last step. if i format the sd before i update again the boot-loop is going to mess up the install...

Paul,

The tun.ko has an issue in v2.6

# insmod /system/lib/modules/tun.ko

insmod: can't insert '/system/lib/modules/tun.ko': invalid module format

# dmesg

[ 992.732421] tun: version magic '2.6.27-8dd6deee preempt mod_unload ARMv6 ' should be '2.6.27-0078c992 preempt mod_unload ARMv6 '

# uname -a

Linux localhost 2.6.27-0078c992 #851 PREEMPT Thu Sep 24 03:54:25 CST 2009 armv6l GNU/Linux

You don't need to unzip it to install it, just put it on your phone's SD card and away you go.

Before the weekend I had the offical 2.73. I flashed to 2.6 (core). After that I get a error popup a couple of times per day:

Sorry!
The process com.htc.provider has stopped unexpectedly.
Please try again.[/codebox]

I don't know under what cirumstances I get it, but I don't have to touch the device for me to get it. There fore I think it's some kind of backgrounds service that's triggering it. Either it's Gmail, Peep or whatever trying to fetch data.

Thinking of Peep... noticed I have no details saved left. Entering those now and will report back if the error doesn't popup anymore.

OK - wifi seems to be fixed.

Did a complete wipe, the reinstalled the update and the latest radio. All working since last night..

Can anyone confirm how a2sd works? Does it automatically move the apps to the sd card, or is there something I need to do?

Brilliant, ta - had a feeling it might have been from the amount of free space I've got. Now just to wait for my 8GB card to turn up and do it all again... :)

The same for me. Battery consumption is about 20-30% plus than 2.5.1. I think it's wavesecure too. Last night i kill all processes but wavesecure. Battery about 30%.. In the morning the phone was off (and i went work in late due the alarm i've on Hero)

Now a try to delete it and monitoring the battery...

First of all, great work on the ROMs Paul, they are a joy.

Secondly, I can confirm the battery drain with WaveSecure and I think can even explain why.

It's much like the problem currently on the Sprint Hero with the sms application causing a partial_wake_lock with the dailer. More details here: http://androidforums.com/sprint-htc-hero/1...t-lets-fix.html

So I fired up Spare Parts and went to "Spare Parts < Battery History < Partial Wake Usage < Since Last Unplugged". This is how it looks on my Hero:

So what happens is that WaveSecure has a partial_wake_lock on the system which means that even though the screen is off, the cpu isn't! So because of the lock, the phone does not go to sleep and the battery drain is considerably higher (more than the advertised 3% in my experience).

*removes WaveSecure*

I just flash 2.6 and I found that there is no Chinese Pinyin Input, I wonder if I could take the stuff from the asia rom and inject it into it?

I had a weird thing with the new ROM that I also think was wavesecure. A couple of times I went to unlock the screen, but nothing happened if I pressed the end button or the menu button - the screen was just blank. I had to take the battery out and put it back to get it to reboot. When it came back Wavesecure told me it was locked and I had to enter my PIN. At the same time, the person I had set up as a buddy on wavesecure got a text that someone had attempted to put in an unrecognised SIM.

Could it be that it doesn't like it when the signal is completely lost for some reason.

I've removed it for now, until it is a bit mroe stable - will report the issue to Wavesecure.

just to add to the guys who think WaveSecure is draining battery and or causing other issues.

I have not had any issues whatsoever with battery draining or any other issues. Everything is A-OK.

Also, i checked the battery history in Spare Parts, and to be honest it didnt even list WaveSecure. So i think the issue people have had are isolated and down to each user, not the ROM containing WaveSecure.

Just thought i would put some positive-ness back into WaveSecure.

Test completed. I can confirm that after deleted WaveSecure, my phone is still on after 48h using the phone in same way then before, when with wavesecure installed, the phone gone off after less than 24h....i don't konw exactely couse i was sleeping when the phone gone off.

Probably as explained by shokka9, not all the phone are affected by this issue, but for me is so.

Thanks.

It's funny though, that for me I have noticed just the opposite: ever since I upgraded to 2.6 enhanced my battery seems to last longer , that is almost a whole day (20-22 hours) before I had to charge it every 14-16 hours.

Changelog

Planned for 2.7

Updated WaveSecure, moved to add on pack

Backup for Root Users in ROM

Boot sounds add on pack

Dropbear SSH running by default

Add notes app from Dragon to core

Add enhanced fonts

Add Swapper to core

...

I would focus on longer battery runs. In my opinion this is a point where the Hero needs some enhancement.

This would then mean that all the features that have an impact on power consuption (SSHd and so on) should be off switchable.

Of course there are things like WaveSecure that either make sense as installed and running or as not installed at all.

Anyway, WaveSecure as an addon is THE SOLUTION that makes the difference to any other ROM.

I'm not getting WaveSecure showing anywhere in the Battery History either. I wonder if there's a setting in the app affecting this? I've not really used it at all beyond setting up the basic functionality on first run.
