Guest ferromax Posted October 21, 2009 Report Posted October 21, 2009 Registered to say thank you for your plans on including Hebrew fonts + keyboard add on pack in the 2.8. Thank you Paul. Keep up the great job!
Guest BoogWeed Posted October 21, 2009 Report Posted October 21, 2009 So Wavesecure and bootsounds are now on two seperate ROMs.. What do I do if I want both Wavesecure AND boot sounds? Unrelated: What are these APK & APN that some people are going on about?
Guest JadeMonkee Posted October 21, 2009 Report Posted October 21, 2009 Version 2.7 is now online in the first post! Changelog - Updated WaveSecure, moved to add on pack - New Boot sounds restore add on pack - Dropbear SSH running by default, check 'About' screen for password (port 2222) - Add Notes app from Dragon to core - Add Swapper to core - Add WiFi Status to core - Added Voice Search to core with libspeech library As you can see, this addresses a lot of requests. If you are a WaveSecure user, remember to install the WaveSecure pack now to remain protected. Enjoy! :) P A few questions before I update: *I don't want to use "swapper" as I've heard that it ages your CD card prematurely, and offers little performance gain, as Android can manage its memory well enough without having to write to a slow CD card. Do I have to do anything to disable Swapper? Or will it sit on my phone idly as I don't have a swap partition? Also, if I do have to do something to disable/remove it, do I have to do it before first boot? *I have installed the Google Voice Search app from the app store. Do I have to remove it before applying the update, as it is now included? Or will the update do all that for me? *I use AK Notepad. I can't find any info on the application "Notes" I'm assuming it's a notepad like application? What is it? I'm guessing it will do anything that AK Notepad will, so I can remove AK Notepad from my phone. *I noticed that "More Locale" is now included as a replacement for "Custom Locale" I still have "Custom Locale" on my phone from a previous version of the MoDaCo custom ROM (as well as "More Locale"). How do I get rid of Custom Locale? Thank you all for your help and information.
Guest vener Posted October 21, 2009 Report Posted October 21, 2009 I installed the 2.7 English version and installed the HTC_CIME because the chinese version did not offer pinyin input. I notice in the messaging app (sms/mms) Using the default touch input gives text prediction but the CIME did not. However, the CIME text prediction works in other apps. Anyone could offer an explanation to this. They seem contracting to each other, it's either the messaging app or the CIME, which is it?
Guest ZiCoN Posted October 21, 2009 Report Posted October 21, 2009 I see a lot of people have a lot of oppinions about the 2.7.. Should I or shouldn't I update mine from 2.6?
Guest Paul Posted October 21, 2009 Report Posted October 21, 2009 Can I just ask: Is there a way to update WaveSecure without updating the whole ROM? Since WaveSecure is in an addon pack, yes! WaveSecure have just released an update, i'll be repacking it today. P

Guest bbawden Posted October 21, 2009 Report Posted October 21, 2009 Can someone explain what Dropbear SSH is? What do I do with it? Great work.
Guest Keramidas Posted October 21, 2009 Report Posted October 21, 2009 Can someone explain what Dropbear SSH is? What do I do with it? Great work. Hi bbawden, Dropbear is a SSH Server, which allows connecting from your computer, by opening a shell (= command line) and running commands. The connection itself is password-protected and encrypted, and can be done with ssh (on *nix/linux/mac computers) or with a tool such as PuTTY (on windows computers). The password needed for the connection is randomly generated on the phone itself, and is displayed in the "about" section of the device settings. Great work Paul ! :)
Guest targetal Posted October 21, 2009 Report Posted October 21, 2009 I have to admit, I've been running my Hero for the past 3, full days, without any reboot, and the device is still sharp, snappy, and fast-reacting as it was just turned on. There's literally no comparison between the newest firmware (+ Paul's mods) and the one I had before (1.73). absolutely awesome. thank You Paul once again! :)

Guest bbawden Posted October 21, 2009 Report Posted October 21, 2009 Also. I quite like the Notes app. I've been using AK Notepad up until now, but prefer the new one. However, the new one only imports files from a NOTE format, whereas AK Notepad exports them in TXT format. Any ideas how I can import my notes from AK to Notes? Thanks

How does it differ from the adb shell? Thanks, Ben You're welcome :) It's similar in functionality to the adb shell, but: - you connect without a USB cable: through wi-fi, through the net, etc. - you can copy files using scp (or WinSCP) which can copy many files at once (ie: more powerful than adb push/pull). - ssh rocks :(

Is there a guide for n00bs anywhere?
Guest jayw08 Posted October 21, 2009 Report Posted October 21, 2009 The core package isnt working, i cannot download it seems the path is invalid
Guest Beekhouse Posted October 21, 2009 Report Posted October 21, 2009 Updated to 2.7 and working but I experience a lot more lag than 2.6 in my opinion..

Guest bbawden Posted October 21, 2009 Report Posted October 21, 2009 I've also got an problem with Google synchronization. I noticed that I wasn't getting new mails. I looked in settings > Data synchronization > Google. Everything is ticked, but the last sync times are showing as an hour ago. Looks like something's gone squiffy. Any thoughts on how to fix this, as I'll need to revert if I can't get it to work. Thanks.
Guest BeerW0lf Posted October 21, 2009 Report Posted October 21, 2009 MCR 2.7 - Added Dropbear SSH running by default MCR 2.8 Web server running on device for remote access Just dropped in here to voice an opinion... I think that any program, which offer remote access via wireless, should not be included by default in 'core' packages. From a network admin's point of view, it is unwise to have remote access services running, if the user is not even using them. It is only a matter of time, before somebody figures out a way to exploit these services. There is no need to have these remote access features available for 'core' users. They should be available as optional add on packs. Don't get me wrong. Personally I would like to have remote access to my Hero using SSH. But this service should be optional, since most users don't even need it and it poses a potential security risk. These services should not be active by default. I assume that there is a way to disable these services if they are included in the ROM?

Guest phillevy Posted October 21, 2009 Report Posted October 21, 2009 You can download wavesecure from here: https://www.wavesecure.com/download.aspx Wavesecure hasn't been updated, the ROM has been updated so that Wavesecure is no longer part of the core ROM. Could Paul confirm that "updated WaveSecure" just refers to it's removal from ROM as opposed to a newer version? If I download any future update of WaveSecure from their website will it update correctly my version even though its in the ROM (I'm keeping on 2.6 for a while now)?

Guest kendon Posted October 21, 2009 Report Posted October 21, 2009 - Added android-wifi-tether 1.52 (props to the developer, this is a great app!) paul, some words on why you're not updating this? version 1.60pre3, which seems to be workin notably better? especially without the "your phone is in an undefined state now" msg crap?

To disable it, I think you can comment out (= add # in front of) the last line of /system/bin/dropbear.sh.
