Guest ToshB Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 (edited) Well, in my opinion too many remote access methods is not good. If you have local (USB or local terminal) access I don't mind. But from the network (WiFi, bluetooth or cellular data) we would have 2 (I hope the web access will be HTTPS). I agree security has to be taken into consideration when creating these services. Having some sort of web server on the phone, exposing some API functionality, would open up some great possibilities. For instance, consider the first screenshot on this page from the Float's (Awesome) Mobile Agent.: http://fma.sourceforge.net/preview.php Edit: I had to look more into this and stumbled upon i-jetty. The i-jetty console (comes with the app - found in market) actually does much of what I imagined! It lets you view contacts, call logs, media from your computer. Can't understand how I've missed this. :) Edited October 22, 2009 by ToshB
Guest Paul Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 i-jetty looks intriguing, gonna check it out! P
Guest kendon Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 (edited) i wanted to edit the dropbear startup, this is how it went: # nano init.rc /system/xbin/sh: nano: not found # echo $PATH /sbin:/system/sbin:/system/bin:/system/xbin # find / -name nano /data/xbin/nano # PATH=/sbin:/system/sbin:/system/bin:/system/xbin:/data/xbin # nano init.rc Error opening terminal: xterm.[/codebox] you see what i mean? tried it from an ubuntu terminal via ssh. btw, just installed mcr2.7.1, mck1.0 and using [s]swapfile[/s] swap partition, seems to run fine so far. browsing and market works over 3g & wifi, didn't test more yet. does swapper need to run at any time, only once or once after every reboot? edit: $PATH and nano are fine when using adb shell: [codebox]kendon@nx:~$ adb shell # echo $PATH /sbin:/system/sbin:/system/bin:/system/xbin:/data/xbin # nano (well, it starts, you know what nano looks like...) edit2: when using adb shell, nano starts, but im not able to use it. the arrow keys just scroll through the history in the first line of the file i open, leaving me unable to navigate through the file. or am i missing some vi-like shortcuts? lol or am i just dumb? Guest grokit Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 Is it just me? Or is the rooted ROM not working with the HTC Sync? I made a backup of all my contacts and messages on HTC Sync, but after upgrading to the latest ROM, the HTC Sync is not working..Bug? I can confirm that for me HTC Sync is not working correctly as well, after installing 2.7. I had no problem with 2.6. I need to further investigate the behaviour. dan
Guest kendon Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 Thank you Kendon for enlightening me! :( well and just as it happens i ran into the trap. made a nandroid backup, backuped my sdcard, all seemed fine. did a total wipe, installed 2.7.1 +mck and played around a bit, now i wanted to revert and just remembered that i forgot to backup the apps partition... :)
Guest footballitis Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 Hi everyone I am new to this website and also my hero is only a week old. I wanted the chinese input hence i downloaded this rom, but i face another problem as everytime i go to locale &text, and select touch input chinese, it will pop an error msg saying i need to force stop it, any idea guy??? Thanks
Guest JadeMonkee Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 Ah yes, I need to fix the script. Delete /data/dropbear/passwd and reboot, you will then be issued a new password which will display in the about box. I'll resolve this in the next release. P Forgive my ignorance, but how do I delete that folder? If I navigate to /data in Astro, it appears empty, and I don't know how else to get to the root of my phone (except through SSH). Is there another way?
Guest Paul Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 Version 2.8 is now online! Note that although 2.8 no longer includes swapper or morelocale (at the request of users to 'slim things down' a little), if you are upgrading without a wipe you'll need to delete these manually from Settings->Applications or /data/app. Changelog - MoDaCo Custom Kernel 1.2 featuring additional filesystem support (EXT4, NFS, CramFS, SquashFS 4.0), CompCache 0.5.4 modules and DroidWall support - Updated WiFi Tether (1.60 pre3) - Script to optionally remove dropbear SSH (run /system/bin/dropbearremove.sh via ADB) - Moved VoiceSearch to data partition (aids updgrading via market) - Removed Swapper and MoreLocale, now advised downloads in main post Enjoy! :) P
Guest clarkEEE1 Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 Use Su file manager or any other app from the market with full root access.
Guest clarkEEE1 Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 (edited) Paul I think the link is broken saying url not found Anybody else having this problem? Edited October 23, 2009 by clarkEEE1
Guest geovass Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 Paul I think the link is broken saying url not found Anybody else having this problem? yes, core link doesnt work...
Guest geovass Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 Fixed... P many thanks! Now it works!
Guest bbawden Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 many thanks! Now it works! Thanks Paul. The Wavesecure link is still bust, but I assume there's no update for that, so I'll use the 2.7.1 version of that zip.
Guest domifer Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 many thanks! Now it works! Hi Paul, I still get broken links both for the enhanced and the wavesecure version.

Guest kendon Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 You bugger! Only flashed the latest 8 hours ago! ;) lol, thought the same thing yesterday after the update from 2.7 to 2.7.1... :( so i'm gonna wait some time before flashing again, maybe 2.8.1 is out by noon :) maybe i will do a backup and then flash the new version, depending on the workload (it's a friday and it's autumn holidays, so i will be probably flashing later) ;)
Guest domifer Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 (edited) You bugger! Only flashed the latest 8 hours ago! :) I just flashed my phone to 2.8, it looks quite good, I think it has become even faster than 2.7.1, but I am still missing the enhanced and wavesecure version, they are still giving "broken links" and I cannot download and upgrade to enhanced yet. Guest chesterman Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 Hi can somebody help me out with the text i need to enter to remove dropbear, i can seem to get it to run. Thanks
Guest shokka9 Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 hehehe I still on 2.7 also....i will wait till this evening maybe to flash.... Its not as bad for me...i have WinMo Omnia i900 too to play with, so its cool! But i really wanna try 2.8.... GOOD WORK PAUL!
Guest ptruman Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 (edited) the past has shown that a wipe has solved quite some problems, especially considering the effort it takes... i strongly hope that these apps are missing, as they aren't included in the generic rom. do you actually know why you installed the generic over the modaco, because it seems to make no sense at all? :) i think it shouldn't say "Build number : MoDaCo Custom ROM 2.6 Core", but i've never used a generic rom from here. what to do? decide if you want a modaco rom or the generic, then wipe, then flash. and iirc i read somewhere that you have to reactivate your copy of copilot, but i guess you will find out that the hard way (-> by trying)... good louck though ;) edit: with the apps and the build number from 2.6 left after flashing a generic rom i would say that you have quite a mess on your phone. imho you will not be able to avoid a wipe. I think I fell pray to the series of confusing links - I'd recommend a few more stickies, as the generic ROMs are also alongside rooted ROMs, and the MoDaCo ones are elsewhere, and there are links between all three (in my defence, it was late). I wiped, installed 2.7 + enhanced (but not WaveSecure) and it's working - so far - although now I see 2.8 is out :\ :( Oh, and CoPilot behaved - I ran the market, it said I had purchased it, I clicked it - it redownloaded (hope it didn't recharge me, it did flash something up about credit cards!) but the CoPilot SD directory must retain all the info, as it bought up my purchase ID and ran ok ;) Edited October 23, 2009 by ptruman
Guest Phily Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 (edited) Have installed all version of this ROM but updated to 2.8 and now having issues with the Hero saying the SD card is unreadable though I check the card and it reads just fine. Gonna roll back a version to pre-custom kernel to see if the additional FS support is causing the issue Update: Rolled back to 2.7 Core and everything is back to normal, maybe the new Kernel isn't 100% just yet. Edited October 23, 2009 by Phily
Guest kosmiq Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 Ohh, new version already? You're real busy Paul. Thanks a lot!
Guest hero-user Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 Hi Paul & everybody else, thanks for this improved ROM and the fast custom kernel inclusion! I also like that you slimmed it a bit down. Also thanks for including owner match kernel support! My problem now is that Droidwall first asks for root access (on which I tried both "always allow" and "allow"), but afterwards complains that it didn't get root permissions. Other apps (swapper, root explorer) did ask me and then worked nicely once root perms were permitted. So for me its only Droidwall which does not get root. Bye!
Guest maxm88 Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 Fixed... P Please check your link to 2.8 Enhanced' add on pack, they are still giving "broken links"
