After 30 minutes using the 2.8 ROM I had an issue with the system telling me google maps failed to run adn force close then HTC sense they got into a loop first the first message then the second , so I just had to reboot...I am still testing the behaviour of the phone with 2.8 ROM, will still give it a try if errors continues then will go back to the backuped 2.7.1 version.

UPDATE: After rebooting the phone got into it's default HTC Hero screen I lost all my scenes and icons etc. SO now I am downgrading to 2.7.1 (via nandroid backup restore)

Hi can somebody help me out with the text i need to enter to remove dropbear, i can seem to get it to run.

Thanks

The actual filename is 'removedropbear.sh' not 'dropbearremove.sh'. Run the script by using the command:

adb shell sh /system/bin/removedropbear.sh

Once you've done that reboot

How about adding IPv6 support in the kernel?

Running IPv6 in my network at home now for testing, would be nice to have a phone with support as well :-)

Or maybe android don't have the required software added for IPv6?

Nice work Paul.

I've got a question regarding my EXT3 partition. The new ROM supports EXT4 right?

Do I only have to run parted and convert my exisitng EXT3 to EXT4? Or do I need to do something clever with the data first? Should I convert before or after applying the ROM?

Thanks,

Ben

Try deleting /data/dropbear/passwd and rebooting?

Wipe and try installing an older build before updating to 2.8, I had problems with google market when updating to 2.7 but dropping down to 2.5 and updating seemed to fix it.

If you have any issues, try a wipe then reinstall before reporting it here!!!

Any success stories for 2.8 ?

- is it stable (no data corruption or such) ?

- does wi-fi tethering work ?

Thanks in advance :)

Seems to work fine for me; pending my question regarding EXT3/EXT4 above.

Haven't experienced any data problems.

Haven't tried wifi tethering yet.

Thanks for your response !

If you want to convert your sdcard's 2nd partition to EXT4, first do a backup !

Then you can either use Linux:

http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/linux-conver...ile-system.html

Or reboot to recovery mode, connect using "adb shell", look for the device node corresponding to your sdcard (in the /dev/block) directory, for example /dev/block/mmc0p2, and do:

umount /dev/block/mmc0p2

tune2fs -O extents,uninit_bg,dir_index /dev/block/mmc0p2

e2fsck /dev/block/mmc0p2

But be careful, I haven't tested this. The important thing is that the "tune2fs" and "e2fsck" tools on your phone need to be recent enough to handle ext4.

Also note that after the conversion, any older MoDaCo ROM cannot access your apps2sd partition anymore !

If I were you, I would wait for a few days until you're sure you will not downgrade from ROM 2.8. Speed gains coming with ext4 are only for writing to your apps2sd partition, ie: when installing an application. The read speed will remain roughly the same.

Note - I have not tested EXT4 yet, so you might wanna back up your A2SD partition contents!

Hmm. In that case I guess I probably won't bother unless there's a real good reason to do so.

How would I go about backing up the data from my EXT3 parition?

Something like (from adb)

mkdir /sdcard/a2sdbackup

cp -r /system/sd/* /sdcard/a2sdbackup/

:D

Thanks. I might give it a go if I'm feeling adventurous, but it's a pain to get back if it goes wrong; I'd have to repartition the card back to EXT3. So I might let someone else do it first!!

1) Anyone who has Droidwall working?

2) connectbot to localhost works fine!

3) How can I login/post in lofiversion from my Hero?

Additionaly in the last hours with 2.8 I experience (random) and frequent lags where the phone/ui is blocked for 5-10 seconds. Happens everywhere, eg while opening the application menu, while staring apps, while switching screens, while switching to apps/home etc. Don't know where this comes from, but it persisted two reboots...It's just complicated to debug this, as there is always much new stuff.

Works great for me:

-new kernel seems a bit more responsive (maybe I am dreaming..:-)

market works

had to reinstall wifi tether from website using 1.6-pre3 -> works great

MMS work great

A2SD works perfectly, I just had to delete and recreate my email accounts in k9 as they wouldn't aut updated anymore but this is a recurring problem every time I upgrade ROM...

basically haven't noticed anything wrong..been using for over 6 hours, no issues

also swapper (manually installed with latest apk from author's site) works great with linux-swap partition on SD-CARD

I am using the latest -EU radio as I have issues with orange-france when using the latest recommended -FU radio

Great work Paul !

you are being too fast releasing new ROM's I can barely keep up with your pace!! ;-)

Hi,

why not call after all modaco update a cutom user script like "/sdcard/modaco/custom_firstboot.sh". There is permit an automatisation off room cleanup.

Thx
