Guest teknologist Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 For infos if anyone is running into trouble trying to use swapper..I know I did have issues at first: Hi, hope you can help me, Im quite new to all this I have a 32mb swap partition on my sd card, and have swapper on my phone. My question is do I have to direct the app to the partiton, or when I press "swap ON" will it use that partiton? If I need to direct it can you please tell me the path I need to input Thanks for your help MATT Hi Matt! make sure you install the latest app from the author's site (I used version 0.1.3 as 0.0.6b didn't give me the option to choose swap partition..weird) after installing 0.1.3 go to settings/advanced settings and you'll see you can use the swap partition (check it) In my case it found the location automagically... My partition layout on the SDcard is as follows: part1-> FAT32 part2->ext3 for A2SD part3-> 64Mb linux-swap type partition I have a Class6 rated SDCard. Hope this helps... Cheers, --Eric
Guest mr.givskov Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 hey, i realy love your costum rom for my hero. by i can't chance the sms sound?? :D
Guest teknologist Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 By the way, can anyone describe how to have openvpn work , now that we have a proper tun.ko ? I have installed it from here http://github.com/fries/android-external-openvpn/downloads I have also installed the required libs and bins in /system/lib and /system/bin using ./adb push I manage to launch the openvpn pref app to manage openvpn. Nevertheless every time I try to import settings from the sdcard it force closes... Thanks in advance, -Eric
Guest Shahz Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 More than 8 hours of running v2.8. Really, removing the MoreLocale improved the speed significantly. I see almost no lags at this point. Haven't tried the ext4 yet (I dont really see the purpose of using this yet..will it speed up?) WiFi theeter worked for me and the market seems even more smooth..I guess this ROM is heading towards an excellent path.. :D Paul, you're a great man! I'll definitely donate to you soon for your awesome work!
Guest domifer Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 (edited) market works had to reinstall wifi tether from website using 1.6-pre3 -> works great hi I am having problems with the tether it force closes all the time, how did you re-install it ? I only have 1.5 r3 will that be OK? UPDATE: I realized you were talking about tether version not Android SDK, just downloaded and reinstall it the usual way, thanks! Second UPDATE: Wifi tether v. 1.6-pre 3 still does the force close :D , anyone having this? (with the latest 2.8 ROM of course) Edited October 23, 2009 by domifer

Intructions for the openvpn binary are located here: http://android.modaco.com/content/software...vpn-on-android/ But it still looks like the newest tun.ko (in the 2.8 firmware) still has issues as I don't see any tun device in /dev/ dmesg stays very silent after the modprobe. Guest AlThePost Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 Do you ever sleep, Paul? :D Great job once again. Upgraded from 2.6 to 2.8 (no wipe) ten hours ago and my handset hasn't missed a beat all day.
Guest rico2k_uk Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 Installed to 2.8, but decided to go for a clean wipe (which i havnt done in a while!). Tried adding the extra partitions for swapper, but the program slowed my handset down drastically! So removed all that. Now working really well! :D
Guest krispijn_s Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 Running 2.8; updated from 2.7.1 and everything seems to be nice and dandy. Excellent work! :D
Guest Krissi Posted October 24, 2009 Report Posted October 24, 2009 Installed 2.8 core and Wavesecure addon over 2.6, working just great. No wipe. Great work! Thanks! :D
Guest MagnusPedersen Posted October 24, 2009 Report Posted October 24, 2009 Note - I have not tested EXT4 yet, so you might wanna back up your A2SD partition contents! P I used tune2fs to update my ext3 to ext4 and the phone went in to a loop at boot, hafter the htc screen it reverted to the hero+robotscreen and keept going in that loop. Other than that I haven't found any bugs. /Magnus
Guest Beluga Posted October 24, 2009 Report Posted October 24, 2009 Nobody wants to answer so i ask again! Does Bluetooth work??? (Like Bluex etc. etc.) for transfering files in 2.8?
Guest Bloxlogger Posted October 24, 2009 Report Posted October 24, 2009 Newbie alert already installed 2.71, was fine, and now when applying the 2.8 zip i get E:corrupt file = verification failed, every time for a different apk, downloaded twice the file, tryed with different sd cards, and also cant restore anymore the latest backup..(telling me to try from console) can i flash the rom from cmd?why i get the corrupted files? someone plz turn the light on tnx :D
Guest ptruman Posted October 24, 2009 Report Posted October 24, 2009 I'm still on 2.7.1, and have the following "oddity" (if that is one) Google Maps - every time I start it (post reboot) it "welcomes" me to Google Maps, and I have to rejoin Latitude every time. Doesn't do this under stock AFAIK. "Home screen" - I randomly get returned to it if I'm looking at the apps menu, and sometimes my keyboard disappears. Also, if I unlock the phone with Google Maps running, it seems to like "unlocking" to Google Maps, rather than the home screen - unless I've "returned" all the way out of Google Maps - regardless of wether I was "in" Google Maps when I locked the phone or not. Am considering 2.8, just not 100% sure yet :D
Guest worcester4x4 Posted October 24, 2009 Report Posted October 24, 2009 I've just acquired a second Hero - vanilla HTC, brand new and just out of the box and charging. Can I go straight to 2.8? Or should I install some other ROM first and then upgrade? Thanks.

Guest Keramidas Posted October 24, 2009 Report Posted October 24, 2009 Hi Paul, 2.8 runs fine so far, and it seems a bit faster than 2.7 too :D Have you tried to enable CompCache already ? It seems I can't insmod ramzswap.ko, because of missing LZO (compression-related) symbols ?
Guest worcester4x4 Posted October 24, 2009 Report Posted October 24, 2009 Follow this guide i put together thanks to all the authors http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-hero...-for-your-hero/ That does look like a really useful guide, well done there. :D I know how to do this though, after going through the same painful learning curve with my first Hero. I was just asking if it's OK to flash 2.8 onto an otherwise stock HTC Hero, or whether I should use an earlier ROM first?

Guest jutley Posted October 24, 2009 Report Posted October 24, 2009 oh yea paul can you fix the crap camera on the hero and make it take better pics the camera is so embarrasing to show the pics of on this phone 5megapixel shame it dont work properly.
Guest Cloudmaker Posted October 24, 2009 Report Posted October 24, 2009 (edited) Paul, is there any way to add FM radio to Hero? Is it possible to take it out of Tatoo ROM and add it back to Hero? Hero's HW supports FM radio, the only thing that missed is its driver or app. Edited October 24, 2009 by Cloudmaker
