DAMMIT! I love Paul's ROM's but unfortunatley I've had nothing but issues since 2.3. everything installs fine but as soon as my lockscreen appears the phone hangs and then goes back to the little HeRO bootscreen animation and just sits in that loop forever. I've tried wiping and that got me onto Rom 2.8 but that seemed to have issues with telling me my SD card was damaged and I kept getting acore crashes.

shame cos I really wanna try out Paul's latest effort but I guess its back to my good old MoDaCo 2.3 nandroid backup. I do LOVE that we can jump between roms so easily

thanks for all the hard work tho Paul, it is appreciated. You be the man, sir! :D

Oz

EDIT: I noticed if I hit the Menu button quickly when the lockscreen appears I got my homescreen with the Loading... overlay but it still hangs and goes back to the bootscreen animation. bugger. would love tofigure this out!

EDIT2: I reluctantly did a wipe and the Rom booted fine. nicely most of my apps are still there thanks to AP2SD. loving that. just gotta set all my homescreens back up now :| Also.... GODDAMN is this rom FAST. Cheers Pauly!

Hi All just wanted to share a problem I found with 2.9, Fantastic ROMs paul, thanks for all the work,

But after I flashed 2.9 enhanced my server connection on exchange activesync no longer worked, but when I restored back to 2.8 it was fine.

Just wondered if anyone else had experienced this?

I really want to go to 2.9 as it was superb in all other ways but I need those damn e mails...

Thanks shken for your report, the exchange issue is also very importent to me.. i would like to know if there is more 2.9 users that note this issue (im still using 2.8 and would like to upgrate to 2.9)

In other issue.. did someone also note that the auto dimmer backlight is not working on 2.8?

No matter how many times I try, I can flash Modaco 2.9 and then get it run.

It just sits on the HTC logo, and the enters a reboot cycle.

I've erased data, gone back to stock and tried to upgrade from there. And nothing works.

So now I'm back to my Nandroid backup of 2.8.

Is there any reason why this is happening? I don't have Swapper or Droidswap installed.

he should be banned :D

Agreed.

On another note I'm getting force closes of htc.com.provider with MCR 2.9 and the new radio (IU).

Anyone else having similar issues?

hi this is my first post.

when i install 2.9 my phone just reboting all the time pls help

If everyone that has problems would just read previous posts... As you clearly can see, from others posts, if you have a problem with reboots or other strange behaviour do a wipe and reapply ROM. Sure pain in the ass to set everything up again but you will have the latest ROM working.

I have had no problems at all actually. Had once with 2.3 or whatever version it was, wiped and reapplied and since then everything has been working without any problems with each version. No need to wipe, to strange errors or anything like that.

Paul, please be so kind and reply me is it possible to decrease the size of MCR 2.9 it’s bigger on 30 Mb. May be I need to remove something? May be you could explain what the size of APN from Caynogen’s APN file eat all size? May be I could remove it after installation and use only mine APN? Or may be has another solution how to decrease size of the MCR 2.9???

The reason for the "loss" of the 30 Mb people are reporting are due to this version not using .odex files.

.odex files are compiled versions of the java bytecode of the normal .apks that usually are stored on the system partition with the system apk.

When the .odex are not there Dalvik (the java virtual machine for Android) creates the equvialent files in /data/dalvik-cache resulting in taking up space on the data partition instead of system.

As packetlss said, the reason of 30Mb loss is the .odex files for the apks in /system/app are compiled into /data/dalvik-cache.

Why is there so big different between 2.8 and 2.9? Lets take a look at the update.zip. In 2.8, the .odex fils for /system/app are precompiled and put into the same folder as /system/app. But in 2.9, all these .odex are removed from /system/app and will be compiled into /data/dalvik-cache when the first boot after flash. So the .odex files will consume /data space.

If you want those space back, u can remount /system, and move the related .odex files into /system/app. (Not tested, just assumption.)

using this method; Clear your dalvik-cache (reboot to recovery, then do 'adb shell rm -rf /data/dalvik-cache'), reboot and wait (it'll take a little while to boot) and then tell me if it's better!

i was able to regain 15mb of the missing 30mb

oh, just redownloaded 2.9, flashed it (without wiping) and the market issue still persists :D.

Crystallight Defense Free is in the Market if I search, but the paid version (Which I purchased) is nowhere to be found. Might give you an hint as in where the problem is.

Same here.

As I already wrote, I wiped the dalvik-cache. I've gained some MBs but there are still 28MB missing.

I don't thing that is a problem when using A2SD. But it's strange.

I hope Paul will find a solution.

It seems the market problem has gone during the night :D

Yesterday, some apps were missing, and this morning, they're back ... strange.

MCR 2.9 is the best rom for now !

could you explain why this is such a life-threatening issue for some people? i mean who cares about internal memory as long as it is not full?

Did an upgrade from MCR 2.8 + teknologist 1.8 to MCR 2.9 last night and all went well. Just had to reboot once more to get Wifi running again. Apart from that no worries. Thanks!

So.

When upgrading if you have bootloops.

- Remove swapper if you have it installed

- clear your dalvik cache (rm /data/dalvik-cache/*)

and you should be OK.

The version of 2.9 online now definitely has no market issues.

The 30MB has gone because the files aren't ODEX'd by default and therefore dalvik-cache is bigger, but what does it matter? We're not running out of space on data with A2SD are we? Besides, dalvik-cache can always be moved to SD if you REALLY want the space (I prefer keeping it onboard for speed).

There are other benefits to using the un-odex'd core that 2.9 is based on such as much more customisability!

Removing .odex files from /system certainly make sense for packing more stuff into the core ROM, but since the dalvik-cache now takes more space, wouldn't it make sense to move it to /cache, which is totally empty ? That would free up about 60-70MB in /data, and there's 128MB of empty space in /cache that could be used, imho. Would it work ?

Hi guys,

I FINALLY managed to get rid of the awful t-mob ROM after installing their 2.73 update (by using goldcard), and flashed with the generic HTC 2.73. I rooted the phone with the unlockr's one-click (flashrec) method and downloaded the modaco 2.9 - all good so far.

So, I placed the Modaco ROM (included in pauls initial post here - 2.9) on the SD card and went into bootloader

It seems to load fine, and after I reboot the phone goes into a startup loop where it flicks between the Hero logo and HTC logo indefinitely, and I'm forced to restore it from nandroid.

Scuse my ignorance here folks if its something really simple, ever since I decided the t-mob update was pants its been a steep learning curve to get to this point ;-)

Hi!

A noob question:

I used the MCR from 2.2, and never had any problem with it. But i never use A2SD and, i use my sd card in the old way, i formatted it when i got the phone. Am I able to use 2.9, and the new features with a simple update, or i must do something special (like formatting the SD card)?

Overnight, suddenly more (purchased) apps appeared in the Market, in the My Downloads section. So (without flashing or fixing or even rebooting,) a whole bunch of new apps came available.

Crystallight Defense Free for example WAS in the Market before, but the paid version was gone. Overnight the paid version suddenly came available.

The thing is, I still don't see all the apps!! Neocore for example can't be found, while Armadillo Roll from the same developer is available. Argh :D.

Hello,

If you have bootloops, ensure swapper is not running. You can boot into recovery and use adb to delete it from /data/app.

I have bootloops with the new 2.9 ROM.

So, I've rebooted into recovery, but, in /data/app (and in /system/app), I can't find any swapper file...

Do you have more informations about it ?

Thank you.

David.
