Hi Folks,

I need a little help/advice regards XDA UC. I have looked at the main homepage but still don't understnad what i am doing wrong.

I am experimenting with a few new roms today and the newer ones all include XDA UC. The instructions say it will commence a few seconds after starting up and MUST NOT BE INTERRUPTED.

To install i have created a XDA_UC folder on the root of my storage card (before flashing rom). Then in this folder i copied all my cabs i want to have installed onto the main memory.

Next in the XDA_UC folder i created a folder called SD. In this folder i placed all the cabs that i want to install onto Storage card/ My Storage.

Then i flashed the rom. However none of these prgrams were installed. I have done this a number of times but they do not install. can't read anything that gives me any indication where i am going wrong either.

Am i placing it in the correct place or is there something else i am doing wrong.

I would really appreciate someones help.

Thanks

Charllie

I've heard one more person with the same problem... Dunno how it got sorted.

If it's a problem with several roms, it's gotto be something wrong somewhere else. Make sure:

1. The folder is named XDA_UC (with the underscore, in capital letters)

2. That it's definately in the root of the storage card (\\storage card\XDA_UC)

3. that it's definately cab files in the directories..

If that fails, try a SDConfig.txt file which also works on XDA_UC.

read more about it here: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=20741

Good luck, hope you get it sorted as it's a great way of installing you own progs..

EDIT: Did you get a message after the flash saying that XDA_UC was installing (with a count down box)??

I still use my SDConfig.txt from the older UC, works perfect.

The best thing to do is check the paths are correct, the correct spacing has been etc.

I know mine works as i test it, if it works for me...it should work for you too :)

Good luck

Hi Both,

Thanks for your replies, i really appreciate it

I am using both your latest roms at the moment to decide which i want to go with for next two weeks while on hols, i installed shokkas v20 rom about an hour ago. Gonna install another rom again in a while so looking to see what i can do to make it work

Just to be sure, the location i am putting the XDA_UC folder is:

Open explore in active sync

Then "My Wodows Mobile-Based Device"

Then "My Storage" folder

Place the "XDA_UC" folder in there.

That is correct isn't it?

Not sure how to use SDConfig.txt so will look into this now.

Thanks again to both of you for the roms, really great and i appreciate all your time and work put into them.

Thanks

Charllie

That should be "Storage Card", NOT my storage.

Hi Nick,

Thanks for the reply.

I inserted a new folder called "Storage Card" and flashed a new rom but the XDA_UC and "Storage Card" folder were deleted when installed.

I must be puting it in the wrong place if its getting deleted

Couldn't rename the "My Storage" folder, but that was still there after flash.

Thanks

Mike

Thinks i gonna throw the phone out of the window, lol.

You need to do this on the Memory Card (SDCard - MicroSD)...NOT MY STORAGE...

Create a .txt file....name it SDConfig.txt

And use they stuff below, just change the paths and filenames to fit your needs...

LOCK:Enabled

CAB: \Storage Card\Cabs\Tiltkeyboardfix.cab

CAB: \Storage Card\Cabs\removeHiddenProxy4CWS_0522.cab

CAB: \Storage Card\Cabs\s2u2v99c.cab

CAB: \Storage Card\Cabs\CapScrUtil.CAB

CAB: \Storage Card\Cabs\Communicator mobile.cab

CAB: \Storage Card\Cabs\CorePlayer.PocketPC.cab

CAB: \Storage Card\Cabs\HTC_GPS_TOOL.cab

CAB: \Storage Card\Cabs\SpbBackup.cab

CAB: \Storage Card\Cabs\SpbPocketPlus4.arm.cab

CAB: \Storage Card\Cabs\SpbTime2.arm.cab

CAB: \Storage Card\Cabs\SpbWeather.arm.cab

CAB: \Storage Card\Cabs\SplashID.CAB

CAB: \Storage Card\Cabs\SplashPhoto.CAB

CAB: \Storage Card\Cabs\SPTimeSync.cab

CAB: \Storage Card\Cabs\stdtime.PPC30_ARM.CAB

CAB: \Storage Card\Cabs\tomtom_6_032_8351.cab

LOCK:Disabled

RST: Reset

Copy & paste this into your SDConfig.txt........as the spacing is correct. and this will work if you edit the paths & filenames.

Good luck

Don't throw it out of the window yet...lol

It's not a folder called storage card, it's an actual Storage card (SDcard). You insert it under the battery..

Hope this is a bit clearer..

Open explore in active sync

Then "My Wodows Mobile-Based Device"

Then "My Storage" folder

Place the "XDA_UC" folder in there.

Thanks

It will not work....like that...it has to be SDCard...there are ways to make it work, but then you need to know what you are doing...it can get a little complex

Buy an SDCard....they are really cheap at the minute.

Good luck

@ fcarmona

Dont understand, if you are on a ROM without UC, then no....

  • 2 weeks later...

XDA_UC currently only supports on Storage name folder.

It uses

HKLM\System\StorageManager\Profiles\SDMemory

"Folder"="\\Storage Card"

If a particular device uses another storage location you can report it to my thread over at XDA:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4444975

Since XDA_UC is being used now more on Non HTC devices then on HTC devices, i will add functinality to add support for these other types of storage (also for Diamond which has it's storage name under "MoviNand"

So it's interesting for me to know which registry defines the name of the "My Storage" folder.

For now the cook can add support for that location by changing

SDF = RegRead("HKLM", "System\StorageManager\Profiles\SDMemory", "Folder")

to

SDF = RegRead("HKLM", "System\StorageManager\Profiles\PARTICULAR DEVICES NAME FOR MY STORAGE", "Folder")

Off course PARTICULAR DEVICES NAME FOR MY STORAGE" should be the one you find in your registry for the internal storage.

As for the SD folder inside XDA_UC this folder is intended for cab files that you want to install with full user interaction so you can choose the install location.

Just to clarify two things...

1) the SDConfig.txt file is stored in the "Storage Card\XDA_UC" folder, right?

2) when the "CAB: \Storage Card\Cabs\SplashID.CAB" command, for example, is implemented, will this be installed one the device, or in "My Storage"? Are there any variables to change the installation destination?

1. SDConfig should be directly in Storage, not in XDA_UC folder.

2. CABS will be automatically installed in Device memory. You heave two options to choose destination:

a) edit cab with WinCab editor, so by default they will install to My Storage

:D put HIDE command before each CAB, so this will unhide install proces's window and let You manually choose destination to install. But if You have couple apps to install in My Storage, then you'll be tapping to confirme path with each CAB, so it will be like manually install.

Ther's another option to use Sashimi for Auto Install, but right now it has issue with new WM 6.5.1 Roms and it doesn't recognize new installer, so tweaking Sashimi is needed.

Personally I use XDA with modified CABs, which install to My Storage. here You have my SDConfig:
