I just bought my Omnia 2 from Singapore about one week ago, knowing full well the rumored specs of the HTC Leo. I would be lying if I wasn't keen on getting a HTC Leo, but I'm happy with the Omnia 2 so far. The main reason I didn't wait for the HTC Leo is quite simply the 4.3 inch screen is approaching PMP territory, and is starting to become less pocket sized. Sure they did a great job minimizing the bezel, but still 4.3inch is pretty massive for your pocket. Also the capacitive screen would definitely be an upgrade, and the faster Snapdragon processor, but other than that, the Omnia is fairly comparable. Finally, taking into account the price of the Omnia 2 in Singapore vs the HTC touch HD (let alone the Leo), it sort of made sense to get the Omnia 2 - the price of the Omnia 2 is cheaper than the touch HD in Singapore.

In saying that, before buying the Omnia, I was very insistent on getting an HTC, because of the support from xda-developers, which as we probably all know is HTC only devices.

I also needed a new phone ASAP since my Hermes is broke.

The Leo looks great in so many ways BUT i just felt it was too big ... it's similar to the Tosh TG01 and that just too wide to be comfortable in my hand ... also looks like it will be pretty expensive too ... if it had been Touch HD sized i'd have ordered that rather then the O2 ... lets just hope i don't regret it when it arrives next week.

Why worry willy nilly over something that isnt even out yet ?

And during this time are SS and others sitting around ?

HTC - I have used many and have only one comment now - never again! Be sure they will screw up the snapdragon like they have every other processor they have used.

Have had the O2 (from i900) for a week now and this is the first time that I havent felt a need to use any 3rd party stuff. There will never be a perfect phone/pda but this one is close...

BTW - SS has just announced a pda built into a 12mp camera.

Wow first time ive heard of the HTC Leo, thats a HUGE screen, whats the specs on it?

After seeing the Amoled screen from Samsung, i dont know if i can settle for anything less...

Btw it looks ugly, too much space for a huge screen, stops them from designing the look of the phone..

I think overall the HTC Leo will be better but I have some issues:

1) does it have AMOLED screen? that's a very good point of Omnia2

2) how is the battery life? (large screen not AMOLED)

3) what about price? I guess it will be a lot more expenisve than Omnia2?

4) what about size? I would love a 4.3" screen, but I still want my phone to be confortable in my pocket

Other than these, I bought my Omnia 2 about 50 days ago... didn't want to wait 3 months or so just to compare^^

i agree with bobobird its lame to compare sth that just came out to sth that is about to come out or is about to be announced. When i was about to buy Touch Pro2 it was the best phone on the market.. but they took it so long that they announced omnia2 and i decided to go for that phone when some new roms come out and faster responses and less lag and bugs. Well the point is the more u wait the newer and the better phones will come out. Its a rapid development of phones right now if u hadnt noticed since touch screens come out they are filling us with phones like crazy and each is a bit better. But somehow they all go for one or two advantages... instead of making a high profile phone with all that it can offer in one piece not in 20 phones... For example why did they have to f*** up omniaPro with smaller display so it wont have freaking modaco chef support... nooo they had to make it a "business phone" what the hell man even they need responsive phones! If they made 3.7 inch omniapro same as omnia2 than ppl could decide. I think they made smaller market for OPro now that they had reduced size just because it wont have the support.

And leo... what the hell it only has couple of advantages... ok has a capacitive scratchless 4.3 inch screen.. a bit diferent touchflo, snapdragon and that more or less sums it up. Omnia HD had all that.. bit smaller screen and symbian instead of winmo. Yes its a big inovation but its just not worth the money. besides 4.3 is just a bit to much i think. Whats next? gonna use cellphones instead of computer screens? jst need a wireless keyboard the big laptop keyboard and u are all set u wont need a computer anymore, just a phone and a keyboard and ur all set.

I think omnia2 will be a very good phone once they remove the buggs and speed tthings up with 6.5. Samsung could have come out with a newer version of omnia tho, using touchpad instead of just a button between the yes and no button. Like xperia has it nicely done. Or make a diferent, larger version of omniapro with a keyboard and touchpad. that would be cool as well. Even if thats not to happen... just speed the devil up :) It's like having a lamborgini with a f***ed up clutch and shitfter... it reaches great speeds and preformance.. but just takes u 4 seconds to change gears...

Also its still a res of 800x480, on a 4.3" shouldn't it have a higher res?

With all that Cpu power....

I feel that the Leo's specs definitely outclass the Omnia II, with exceptions to the following:

1. Massive width

2. Smaller capacity battery (WTF HTC??)

3. Have yet to see a decent camera on a HTC (just compare the Touch HD's to the Omnia IIs....)

4. HTC doesn't seem to provide ROM/OS updates as regularly as Samsung (Upgradeable to WM6.5.1? And can forget about WM7!)

In my humble opinion, it is quite likely that the HTC Leo will outperform the Omnia II by a . Raw performance, at this moment, the new Omnia line is the best. However, Samsung is not as good at software as HTC, and HTC has a bigger 'hacker' following. Then again, HTC is well known to release crippled devices and having truly horrendous support. I'm almost surprised they lasted this long.

Still, Snapdragon is very nice platform, it's everything the MSM7K platform isn't, but should have been. It may come to bite Samsung in the behind that they did not use a Cortex processor for the new Omnia linem though they do have them (there's one in the i8..HD, as far as I know). Add to that that their 3D gfx seems to be way below par (and specs) - though who knows what will happen there.

As for WM7, if you look at the rumored requirements, the new Omnia line is missing some buttons for WM7 (though they seem to have everything else in order), which the Leo does have. Then again, according to other rumors, the Samsung i780 is the official WM7 test device, and that thing doesn't meet any of the rumored WM7 requirements :)

Thanks for everyone's response.

So what if it's a bit wider...my wallet's huge and that still goes in my pocket (mostly receipts)!

I'm not comparing a device that's available to one that's not....simply because neither have been released in the UK. Price-wise, they will be on similar bands on usual UK tariffs (free on 18 month for £45 pm). Leo is slated for an Oct 18th release...god knows when the Om II is due (there is speculation for Oct also).

I've had HTC phones/PDA's for the last 8 years and an Omnia i900 for the duration of this year. I love the Omnia and the camera is awesome for WM. HTC camera quality is also good but they ALWAYS miss out an LED flash. Finally with the Leo...much like the Omnia II there is a dual LED flash....albeit the Omnia II is only 5mpx as opposed to Leo's 8.1

Also touch flo 2.6 is simply amazing, personally I think it puts touchwiz 2.0 to shame. Also I use my Omnia in the car....who in the hell thought it would be a good idea to place the micro USB socket at the top of the i8000?!

Anyway, the jury is still out, don't tell me off again for comparing so early on though, this is what forums are all about!

to me omnia2 spec is perfect at this point of time....i don think it is pretty fair to compare with Leo at all. Just look at how technology progress since HP ipaqy days....

omnia2 is perfect for the wm6.1 or 6.5 where maybe when HTC Leo is only exisiting for wm7

by the time we will not even think of using 6.1 and samsung might even have plan for omnia3?

i just get my omnia2....the spec is pretty good but however i feel that samsung customization of the phone looks complex....

think spec wise HTC Leo outs O2. But for me O2 seems good enough (for now) I had my O2 when it was just release in Singapore I dispose of my HTC Diamond 2 and get O2 :). The size of o2 just nice too bad most of the time ppl thought I am using Samsung jet :D.

I'm telling you guys for several months that the Omnia II is not a step forward but a step backward. It has a nice screen. But all I really wanted is the T-Omnia (with FM radio instead of TV) and AMOLED screen. In fact that korean Omnia already had many things that later appeared in the Omnia 2 like 800MHz cpu, higher resolution screen... and it kept the good stuff from Omnia 1 like optical pad and large storage space. Sure some ppl call the microUSB port and 3.5 headphone socket a "big" improvement but I don't. I have no problem with the proprietary connector. They just had to improve the headphone-adaptor with a passthrough so you can charge it while using the headphone-cord (e.g. for TMC radio reception in iGO)

I said before Samsung is crap company with no clue wtf they're doing. I'm still wondering: what will it be, Cube UI or touchflow UI? Why did they abandon optical pad instead of improving it (after using it in only a few products)?

IMHO the main characteristics of Omnia should be fast speed, optical pad (so you can ditch the pen) and big internal storage area. The old Omnia had a less impressive screen than its (main) competitors but everything else was above. Faster cpu (+600MHz instead of +500MHz), large storage space (8GB instead of 4GB), better navigation (fingermouse/d-scroll instead of only a scrollwheel).

Omnia 2 in its present form is just a Samsung JET with winmo. They should call it the Samsung JIT :-)

The same with Omnia pro. They ditched the optical pad and ditched the large internal storage space. So the first thing you need to do is purchase a 16GB +50USD memory-card. While the I8000 is already 100USD more expensive then the i900 ever was.

Needless to say that HTC is no better. Touch Diamond 2 is as bad an improvement over it's older cousin as the omnia 2 is over Omnia 1. TD2 still has no flash, the same +500MHz cpu, less internal storage space than diamond 1 (sounds familiar, heh!), Less buttons and the bottom scroll bar (which omnia has in software) is even worse (less used in apps) than the scrollwheel of its older sibling. It's just a TD 1 with larger screen and longer lasting battery. How lame is that!

IMHO things are going the wrong way. Instead of improving products they're "de-proving"!

To be fair, we're talking about the Leo not the TD2 :)

And you're right it is 5pmx, I was just citing from www.dailymoile.se where they said

"Video preview of the HTC Leo. HTC Leo is the upcoming Windows Mobile 6.5 smartphone powered by 1Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM 8250 processor. Also feature a 4.3 inch WVGA capacitive touchscreen display, HSDPA, Wi-Fi, GPS, 8MP autofocus camera with flash, Bluetooth 2.1, 3.5mm headset jack, g-sensor, ambient light and proximity sensors."
