I'm having trouble with storage space, which is why I would like to remove Opera 9.5 since i'm mostly using 9.7 nowadays.

Is there anyway possible to do that? I've ran through the Remove Programs but do not see any options to remove it. I deduce that it comes preinstalled with Samsung's ROM but I would appreciate if anyone can tell me how do I remove it or better yet, replace it with the installation of the newer 9.7?

Currently, both are installed as the 9.7 installation does not overwrite the 9.5 and it takes up quite a bit of device storage. :)

Hi,

How do u get your opera 9.7 to work? After I installed it and try typing in the address box, nothing comes out but the blinking cursor is moving! If 9.7 is really faster...i would wanna uninstall 9.5.

Strange. I've installed it several times after flashing and always been able to install it there.

yes I am fully aware. But even if I did choose to install to storage, I would wanna remove 9.5 because Opera takes up a huge chunk of space (10+ mb) out of the 140+mb Omnia came with and that is a lot.

I understand that some applications require you to install @ device side and will of course try to minimize the usage of device memory when possible.

I think there are several problem here that I see

For those that downloaded the Opera 9.7 Beta from Opera official web site, you get to choose to install either in

- /Device

- My storage

- storage card (your microSD)

After installation, you will see 2 copy of opera on your phone.

- Opera Browser (which is 9.5 that came installed in the rom)

- Opera Mobile (which is the 9.7 Beta you installed)

For those that downloaded Opera 9.7 Build 35432 or those build from XDA developer site

you don't get to choose where to install. It will install to /Device, using up portion of you 512MB program RAM

In one way, it is nice, you get to have only one icon in your phone and when you launch it, it will launch Opera 9.7 if it is set as default browser.

But here is the problem,

- When you try to load or install Samsung widget (if you still use touchwiz and widget plus), you will get an error that say "un recognize device" or something. To work around, I revert back to Pocket IE by setting opera 9.7 as non default browser

- Youtube don't work. You will not be able to launch streaming media player from within opera 9.7. (I not sure if it the same problem with the version you download officially from opera site)

- If you try to uninstall it, you will lose the opera icon. Opera 9.5 is still there which is seen launching if you launch facebook or youtube from the widget plus screen, but there will not be an icon.

- Soft reset or power cycling the device don't bring back the opera icon. I think maybe Hard reset does. (if anyone have any solution to this, please provide clues)

To restore the icon just use a file manager to create the shortcut to OperaL.exe and put it in the /Windows/Start Menu/ folder

Well you already got the answer to change the WinMo theme but that's not good enough for me... I like black background and white text :)

So I changed the skin files of opera, so that address and search input fields are black.. Works great!

1 .Go to your installed Opera skin folder (ie. \Program Files\Opera Mobile\profile\skin\ )

2. copy standard_skin.zip to your PC and extract it

3. Enter the WMPlatform folder, and find 6 .bmp files starting with this text "fld_text_input_"

4. Edit each of them, use a fill tool to replace white with black

5.*Naturally, compress them back into standard_skin.zip and move it back on the phone in the same folder

*Before this step you can rename the standard_skin.zip on the phone to BACKUPstandard_skin.zip just in case

*When compressing them, the standard_skin.zip uses "Normal" level of compression, dunno if it makes a difference for the Opera but to be on the safe side I used it too.

*If using 7z, beware that it can create .zip files, but use a 7z compression. I assume this would be a problem so check it.

EDIT: FYI 3 files that end with the word "extended" are for the search bar, others are for the address bar, so you can change colors accordingly if you wish to use different ones...
