i'm now on build 21840.5.0.60. is this different to the store rom?

sim city demo is no-longer on the device & the camera app seems to be different otherwise seems very similar to the store rom. toshiba home screen may be slightly faster too

Store version is 21856.5.0.65, so looks like a later build :) Or doesn't it work that way? !!!

Rom from toshiba site is 7MB smaller than the leaked Orange ROM, any idea what's missing?

i think it's safe to assume the store rom is a more recent build, this official one feels faster to me tho.

Medved, the sim city game is gone. that probably explains it?

I've just looked at the *.tsw file and the new Toshiba one is later- Orange Store is 165 (29/9//09) and the new one is 167 (3/10/09). This corresponds to my 'About/Version Info' which shows my store version 'Software Version' as 5005.0001.65, so I'd assume the new one would be 5005.0001.67

Don't know why the OS build is earlier though?

Why last? There also who paid 550Euros directly to TOSHIBA like me in italy that will be will receive the update after all other branded ROMs.

And what about the promise that toshiba will be the first upgraded phone ? today HTC released already his official 6.5 rom

And the story that TG01 will updated from Windows Update? Obviously doesn't work

Unfortunately it doesn't work for an Orange Romania branded phone. It's says "Variant is invalid" just like the leaked build :) and Orange Romania doesn't say anything about WM6.5 upgrade :(

Just installed and confirm a couple of points....

  • SPB Mobile Shell is not installed, despite the mention in the windows mobile pdf on the toshiba site
  • Installing this rom does not relock your phone if previously unlocked
  • Power button seems a lot more responsive
  • Toshiba have added their own UI to many setting including: Network, wifi, operator, mail, volume, video
  • Portrait landscape sensor seems more sensitive when it needs to be and less when it doesn't.

First impressions aren't good for the new 6.5 UI, honeycomb menu seems limited, don't like the home screen and opening the usual apps (calendar, contacts etc.) just reverts back to the standard programs since WM6.0. What an anti-climax! - Back to SPB MS 3.5 for me.

I'll email Toshiba to see if they can provide the list of bug fixes that they've packed into this rom.

Medved77,

I have an Orange Rom TG01 an have followed the instructions on the site to the letter. The Update program continually fails to start and the Error Message says "Error during System Reset"... so no new rom for me!

How strange. Are you using an empty microSD card with the exe placed in the root of the card and the tsw within the folder supplied with the folder being in the route of the card?

It sounds like the ROM should be compatible as you're not receiving the invalid variant that others have experienced.

Have you tried downloading the files again incase part was corrupted in the process?

Orange UK are clearly supporting the installation of this new ROM so if the problem persists they may exchange it for model with 6.5 already installed, worth a try.

a word of warning.

once you install the 'official' orange rom, you CANNOT flash the old 'leaked' rom.

tells you you are trying to load old version of rom, which is a bugger 'cos i thought the old one was faster!

the official one seems a bit faster to me. slide to unlock thingy is definitely smoother. opera 9.7 seems to scroll a bit better and the market place definately runs smoother.

I hope that toshiba will help us upgrade the device to future versions also like someone says windows mobile 6.5.1 it's at the corner.

as i understand it, microsoft want to be less reliant on carriers/manufacturers to deploy o/s updates. (the windows update function on wm6.1 was never used afik) so hopefully we will get any updates regardless of orange/toshiba...

They want to, but they did? I've never read that windows mobile 6.5 was driving this capability. I guess this will be a funcition to carry at Windows Mobile 7.
