Happened to me lots of times. First try using GPSTest to see if your gps unit is working. It didn't work the first time, then after I did a hardreset GPSTest finally had a response so that meant it was working.

But i still get the Seeking GPS Satellites message until ike... 10-15 minutes before it gets something, but not always...

Then I used GPSGate, and once I set that up then I get gps signals the moment i turn on gps programs. within 1-2 seconds. Sometimes I get signals indoors too.

that mean its working ok?

NB it just says starting up. never seems to get any further

Not sure why you are not getting a lock but if you are serious about using the i8000 for navigation you are best to buy a bluetooth SiRF III gps mouse, in my opinion. Particularly for off-road navigation where the satellites may be obscured by trees etc. I dont know what chip they use in the Omnia but it seems to me that it has more like the performance of the old SiRF II chip which is nowhere near as good. I would imagine this is probably more down to them having to compromise on the internal antenna than a fault with the electronics though.

I bought my i8000 mainly to use whilst hiking after my ipaq packed up. It is perfect for this with an external gps mouse. Luckily though I wasn't expecting much from the Omnia's internal gps because if I had I would have been very disappointed.

no need to hard reset if it gpstest is working. Just go try that 2nd program, GPSGate.

I can tell you that I get a GPS fix in Google Maps as well as Garmin XT in Auckland. In fact most places in Auckland I've gotten a fix within about 0.5-10 minutes.
