You can make a speed test o OmniaII with sktools's benchmark utility.

It seems that, Samsung used cheap chip for OmniaII contrary to OmniaI

Here is two results of my two friends.

Could you please make a test and post yours, stating ROM version, amount of internal memory and type (2-4-6) of your SDHC.

(1) Omnia i900 with (sandisk2 4gb micro sd HC)

main storage (w) = 2452kb/sec

main storage ® = 7796kb/sec

8gb my storage (w) = 1893kb/sec

8gb my storage ® = 5879kb/sec

4gb card storage (w) = 866kbps

4gb card storage ® = 5237kb/sec

(2) Omnia II 8GB running WM6.5 with 16 GB SanDisk Micro SDHC

Main Storage (Write) = 3607.75 KB/sec

Main Storage (Read) = 9394.50 KB/sec

Main Storage (File List) = 2725 Items/sec

Main Storage (SKTools Loading) = 2994 ms

My Storage (Write) = 328.49 KB/sec

My Storage (Read) = 1848.38 KB/sec

My Storage (File List) = 3996 Items/sec

Storage Card (Write) = 723.16 KB/sec

Storage Card (Read) = 9088.76 KB/sec

Storage Card (File List) = 3891 Items/sec

is it worth to spend extra money to 8 or 16GB model of OmniaII, if you could find 2GB model?

Omnia II 2GB running WM6.5 with 4 GB SanDisk Micro SDHC

Main Storage (Write) = 3379.54 KB/sec

Main Storage (Read) = 8347.83 KB/sec

My Storage (Write) = 315.5 KB/sec

My Storage (Read) = 1839.52 KB/sec

I've only got an old demo version of the tools at the moment so no storage card option for the test.

EDIT after a few tests the main storage gives various results.

My concern is "My Storage" (internal 2/8/16GB) vs. "Storage Card" (External SDHC card)

logically, speed of internal must be greater than external, as Omnia1

EDIT after a few tests the main storage gives various results.

may i know how to test it? im using OMNIA II with XXIH3 firmware+samsung sdhc 8gb class 6

Omnia II 8G with 16G scandisk micro sd hc....running ij6 wm6.5, with main storage less than 48mb available.

main storage write = 4104.21 kb/sec

main storage read = 11335.79 kb/sec

my storage write = 320.20 kb/sec.

my storage read = 1828.03 kb/sec

storage card write = 776.74 kb/sec

storage card read = 2745.31 kb/sec

sktools loading = 1996 ms

looks like i got the top speed here.....but it may vary from time to time

install sktools

(sk-tools web site)

use information->benchmark

i'm planning to use "My Storage" for applications and games only, while Storage Card for music and Video only.

In such way i won't find any limitation of speed on "My Storage".

And by the way, i don't know how SKTools measure speed of "My Storage", but if you switch USB to Storage Mode with "My Storage" and will try to write some file by Total Commander (PC version), then you will see speed something like 5800KB/sec.

So, may be something going wrong with SKTools.

if possible, try to use spb benchmark tool (free).

info:

http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/benchmark/

a result that is not suitable for us

http://pocketnow.com/review/samsung-omnia-ii-i8000?p=4

easy download:

http://handheld.softpedia.com/progDownload...load-36366.html

So, may be something going wrong with SKTools.

maybe the problem is wm6.1 - wm6.5 drivers, but practically effects everyday usage

Hay guys these test results just did not seem right to me as I have copied a few things to the "My Storage" on the device (eg, movies and larger files..etc..etc..) from the desktop and a 250MB Movie file definately does not take that long to copy for me so though I would run the test my self...

I'm running the default WM6.1 on my Omnia II (i8000) and these are my results using sktools's benchmark utility:

main storage write = 3650.62 kb/sec

main storage read = 9615.02 kb/sec

my storage write = 326.50 kb/sec.

my storage read = 1740.02 kb/sec

These results do not seem correct as it does not take me 3 seconds to copy 1MB of data to the storage card it's ALLOT faster than that so perhaps the program is not working correctly or it's testing with lots and lots of very small files (High I/O test perhaps?)....

Just as an idea if I copy an 11.5MB Files from my "Storage Card" to the "My Storage" it takes around 4-5 seconds to finish meaning it's copying allot faster than sktools's is reporting, also the "Storage Card" I'm using is about 4 years old I think (1GB) so it's probably not the best card to do the test with either but does show the results that the benchmark tool is reporting might not be accurate.

I also copied a larger 40MB file and it took around 16seconds to copy from the same crappy/old 1GB SD card to "My Storage" which is around 2.5MB/s

Any way just though I would share the WM6.1 results :-)

All the best!

Thank you for sharing wm6.1 results, I wonder very much. SKTools benchmark results of "my storage" seems independent of WM version

Let's suppose that, benchmark speeds are not correct.

But, is really external mini-SDHC faster than internal chip?

is SDHC really 5x faster at reading and 2X faster at writing than internal chip?

I gave Omnia1 results in the first post. Something weird at OmniaII design. Cheap chip or in-appropriate hardware of data bus or incompatible drivers.

my storage write = 326.50 kb/sec.

my storage read = 1740.02 kb/sec

I also copied a larger 40MB file and it took around 16seconds to copy from the same crappy/old 1GB SD card to "My Storage" which is around 2.5MB/s

Any way just though I would share the WM6.1 results :-)

I was puzzled by SK Tools storage speed test results on my 910 several months ago as well. I solved the problem.

In order to get accurate results, you have to turn off the filesytem cache for all three storage targets. Then run the benchmark. The high speed values, particularly those in the 5MB/s+ range, are showing you internal RAM speeds reading and writing to the cache. Turn them off, and you get numbers that look much more sane for NV memory.

no need to deal with caches. Just connect Omnia II as USB storage to PC and copy big file to it. for example 700mb movie.

It's better to use PC Total Commander with wincefs plugin, because windows explorer can use cache.

So try with My Storage and then with Storage Card.

Results will be more accurate than SKTools'.
