IMO = In my opinion

and I said a bit... ;-)

Last but not least:

1) I do this for free (not a single donation in 5000+ downloads...no comment) even though people seem very excited with these kernels

2) I am not forcing anyone to use these

3) The source is there on github if you want to try improving it yourself ! :-p

4) If you don't mean to be picky, then don't be picky !

No hard feelings mate !

It was meant to be a light hearted comment, nothing more. Sorry for not making that clearer. :D

Hi Eric

Just to report that 1.9 over 2.8 has made a noticeable increase in speed /responsiveness for me - thanks.

Hi Eric

Just to report that 1.9 over 2.8 has made a noticeable increase in speed /responsiveness for me - thanks.

Happy to hear that !

Well, then I am not the only one having that perception! :D)

Anyway, it's always the same...most of the people posting are people having problems or dissatisfied...and don't get me wrong, it's totally normal...

few are those who are happy and report...there are, but if you would see the download stats as I do ..you'd understand what I mean ;-)

Last but not least, there are many apps around in the market that are really poorly designed and are cpu hogs !

Chances are if you have such an app installed and running in the background, whatever kernel we build, you will never notice great speed/responsiveness...

That's one of the things I think needs to be improved with android market, the ricky thing is to avoid getting as restrictive as the iphone app store... :()

Just my humble opinion though !

so what was the reasoning for removing the swap from the sd card? I would think that would free up space on the phone for extra ram for applications, right?

First, I don't understand the 'what was the reasoning for removing the swap from the sd card' as my kernel package has never had swap enabled by default...

Then, you obviously don't understand the goal of Compache.

I suggest you read this http://code.google.com/p/compcache/

And then check the compache study on my website

BTW, the swap is generally used when real RAM tends to get full...and also it is a zillion times slower in read/write access times/speed than real ram...not even taking in account the fact that sdcard are for most them slow...

Last but not least, it may contribute to trashing your sd card.

Now, if you really think you want swap, this kernel is compatible with swapper, provided you have a swap partition as the third partition on your sd card...

Again, I really don't see the point...but well, you are free to do whatever you want with your phone (right, it's still a phone...not a PC ;-)

I thought I had read somewhere that you said to remove the swap from the sd card since it's no longer used. Sorry if I got my stuff mixed up.

No, I said remove swapper because it was causing issues for some, not related to the kernel anyway, but still issues...

Swapper is the app that was used to activate the use of swap...

And for the reasons I explained earlier, IMHO swap is not useful at all and I don't recommend it...

But as you know this is a free world and you are a free man ! ;-)

Anyway you can leave swap on the card, if the swapper app is not installed it will be ignored.

[EDIT] I reread the first post in the topic and I'd like to apologize. There was in fact obsolete info there about removing the swap partition! I hope I have made things clear now. It is not mandatory but recommended.

It's a bugger to update multiple sources for the announces, and been updating the website rather then this topic's first post as of lately... I have corrected the infos just know. And I guess as the answer had already been answered a couple of times I didn't understand yours...Again, sorry for being a bit rude! Was not the goal at all and at the end I did give you the answer in the reply anyway ! ;-) Cheers !

Hi,

Today I installed the new version, 1.9 and I realizated just now that the volume of my device is very low. so,that I can hardly hear it very close indeed ear.

I checked all settings, and all are at most.

What can have happened? :D

Thanks in advance.

Sorry, got no idea...I believe sound volume adjustment is managed in userspace and the kernel has not been changed since 1.8

In fact all the sound drivers are the same as HTC's stock kernel...

really weird...

Have you tried reinstalling ROM+kernel..Maybe even backup contacts/app/sms/calls with Sprite and the wipe/reinstall rom+kernel, then restore with sprite , all but settings...maybe something got corrupted on your Hero...just thinking out loud !

anyone else experiencing this ?

I can not link to this http://android.teknologism.org/

Please provide an alternative download link

Thanks!

Website works 100% and very well ! and many people from china are downloading with no problems.

Sorry no alternative...maybe it's the great firewall of the country you live in.....can't do much about that...

Here is the direct link to the download for Modaco Custom ROM teknologist kernel 1.9 update package anyway:

BTW no need to post in 24pt font.. :D)

You're right and that's not right or fair.

You and Paul are doing some amazing things for free and we ought to show our appreciation.

I just made a donation.

Its not much, I'm afraid :D

No worries on the quantity, the gesture says it all !

Thanks, you are the first and only one !

Cheers for that !

[EDIT] By the way as I said earlier over 7000+ people downloaded the teknologist kernel, imagine if just everyone donated just 2$ :D)

[EDIT] or even a bit more ;-)

@teknologist might it be possible that u put me the following modules u compiled before (from compat wireless) in an tar archive and upload? Would be great thanks :D Because my compat-wireless-msm/ branch is not able to compile the lib80211* modules and I dont know which kernel config modifications are required in order to get the "mainstream" compat-wireless compiled, thx.

rfkill_backport.ko

cfg80211.ko

lib80211.ko

lib80211_crypt_ccmp.ko

lib80211_crypt_tkip.ko

lib80211_crypt_wep.ko

mac80211.ko

wl1251.ko

wl1251_sdio.ko

I can't put the compiled modules because they are "bound" to the compiled kernel.

As per the config file, for compat wireless, you need to include some options in the kernel config for it to compile.

Can't remember all right now and I wiped that tree because I worked on solving the wifi tether on my 2.6.27 tree...

Sorry about that, but I think you can find out the options needed in the compat-wireless docs...

Again, sorry I can't help you more.

Hint: look for 80211 and mac strings in the kernel config options. They should be in the wireless section. Also I remember I needed to activate some stuff in the USB section too.

Nevertheless, remember that I had a whole kernel+compat-wireless modules compiled but the Hero SDIO card seemed to not work with the compa-wireless module due to some hardware mac address init issue...

Cheers!

Got it running, was a really stupid error, CONFIG_CRYPTO_ECB and CONFIG_CRYPTO_ARC4 was missing, somehow obvious with the WEP error we got.

Now I only need to compile a static patched wpa_supplicant (http://bobcopeland.com/android_wifi.html) because I have no android userland environment with all the libs, and it should work :D

[EDIT]

Used the linux (debian) wpa_supplicant binary everything works fine :(

[EDIT2]

wohoo, monitor mode/packet injection - aircrack seem to work too (not sure how functional/stable)
