You can also use the search feature on this forum, because numerous people have asked a similar question, and there are a series of GPS testing tools that you can install on your phone to test. I would name them, but I don't know them off the top of my head. But they are there, just take a moment to read.
Guest jh787 Posted March 31, 2010 Report Posted March 31, 2010 Has anybody tried typing in *#1472365# into their Omnia2? It brings up some extra gps settings, some of which are similar to settings that can be reached in registry but some are unique. The main one that was of interest to me was the start up mode of GPS. Mine was set to cold start which meant that every time i started my tomtom it did so by deleting all previous data. This meant i was on a cold start each and every time i used it which was why it took forever to lock sometimes. I have now changed this setting to "hotstart" and my locks are instant. There are various other settings that can be played with and tried out but this setting alone got rid of the only flaw i could find in the Omnia2.
Guest jh787 Posted April 5, 2010 Report Posted April 5, 2010 I compared the registry of my brothers htc (which has tomtom working)and my omnia i8000 and saw that among other htc specific settings one of the differences was that the intermediate driver had no buffer settings in registry. I decided to back up my registry and delete both incoming and outgoing buffers and now i have an immediate signal and once locked it does not jump from one satellite to another, they are consistent blue bars. i have it set to com4 with 4800 baud rate. and it is set to built in gps in tomtom. i recommend that everybody try this but please back up your registry first. Please provide some feedback and let others know if it works for you
Guest acastiyo Posted April 5, 2010 Report Posted April 5, 2010 Thanks very much indeed for the tip, but... where are those values we are supposed to delete from registry? I would love to try it, hoping it doesn't break my registry of course hehe. Thank you!! Hi dont worry about deleting these useless buffers, i have done it with positive effect as have others http://www.modaco.com/content-page/275659/...-omnia/page/80/ The registry entries are under hklm\system\currentcontrolsettings\gpsintermediatedriver\drivers Please see post 95 in the following thread for my registry settings which give me a very fast fix with excellent accuracy. http://www.modaco.com/content-page/275659/...0/#entry1238381 hklm\system\currentcontrolsettings\gpsintermediatedriver\drivers\samsung gps hardware hklm\system\currentcontrolsettings\gpsintermediatedriver\multiplexer these may not be the exact paths as i have these entries deleted now but i have benn messing about with these settigs for a long time now so it should be right. There are 5 entries to delete in all (2 for input buffers, 2 for output buffers and one max buffer size) Edited April 7, 2010 by jh787
