Has anyone had any success with Fido 3g settings? I could not get it to work with 6.1 and now I flashed 6.5 and same problem, no internet.

Thanks

What settings do you have?

Also have you requested to have 3G, Edge enabled? reading up around the web it seems you need to request usage rather than get it automatically. Bit of a backward carrier as anything like that should be automatic in todays mobile world.

Salut!

The internet settings for Fido are:

APN: internet.fido.ca

User:

Password:

Domain:

(these are blank)

I am having the same problems on Rogers, seems like they're blocking HTTP transports. MSN, Weather, emails works just fine, tho. So for me it's not a dead situation.

Mind you, in downtown montreal, you get 3G+ and man, it's blazin'.

Have any others questions look for a store named cellengros in montreal they can help you better.

So I don't need DNS server IP or dialup number(*99# or something like that)?. I cant browse at all and weather is not working also. Sometimes I see a G up on top and sometimes an E. They can't help me(Fido) because they don't support phones they don't sell.

Yes I did request a data plan(supposed to be 3G speed).

could it be because of the lack of 850 band support? I wanted to get an Omnia II as well, but was worried about not being able to get 3G due to the lack of 850 band support...

For now Bell is the only carrier that has the North American Omnia II, but they won't even sell me the device outright...sigh...

Does your Omina 2 say that it is roaming when you using it with Fido?

On mine it shows an E and the roaming white triangle.

I dont need to use data in NA so 850 or no 850 is fine for me.

The bell page says it can be bought outright.

I think this is because Canada has probably the most ridiculous and highest cost data plans in the world and leaving the setting at automatic has dinged quite a few 3rd party phone users. Me too once and I specificall asked data to be blocked. Guess they now do it by default and only activate for data plan users.

You can pick up an Omnia 2 at full cost at any Best Buy or Future Shop. They sell them off contract no problem, I bought two. As for unlocking it however... You'll need to be ready to pay a $75 fee to Bell and also start a 30 day activation with them before they will give you the unlock code. Plus they don't even know how to enter it into the phone so they'll give you a line that you need to activate the phone for 30 days before you can get the unlock codes... bunch of BS. A guy in the GTA said he could get the codes but didn't know how to input them into the Omnia 2. Check out this post here: http://www.howardforums.com/showpost.php?p...mp;postcount=44

For instructions on how to input it, ask the guy at cellspeed.ca if he'll just sell you the code, then you can get your unlocked Omnia 2 on Rogers or Fido or even Telus (or AT&T).

Tried to buy a Bell Omina II at the Futureshop at Eglinton & Laired in Toronto. The guy at the counter wouldn't sell it to me outright! Kept saying that it can only be sold with Bell contract!

Then the guy behind the counter is an idiot. He probably didn't have any Omnia 2's in stock. I called them yesterday at the Laird/Eglinton BB and they didn't have any left to replace mine cuz I'm having problems with the headset. I picked up two O2's at the BB Bay & Dundas location, guy was really good and fast, knew his stuff and sold me the phones off contract no problem. If any of the BB guys give you a problem with buying it off contract, you ask for their manager or show them the Bell website - $549 OFF CONTRACT! It's probably just some schmoe at FS wanting to make more commission off a new activation rather than just selling the phone outright where they don't make much of anything off the sale.

Sherway Gardens location has been really good in the past too, just call ahead and make sure they have it in stock first.

P.S. Don't forget to get the AWESOME BB warranty - Any phone problems? Just walk in, give it to them and they hand you a new phone... LITERALLY. And you don't have to get the same phone, any phone you want that is the same price. Don't believe me, go talk to a BB Mobile guy who knows his stuff (like Bay & Dundas!) :)

On Fido.

Strange thing happened a couple hours back - had to soft rest and after that the 3G icon showed up (usually it is the E) and has been at that setting since.

Anyone have any idea what is going on ??

IJ9, generic Asian bought O2.

Can you browse with Fido. I can't get internet to work. Is it the O2 or Fido??

Can you browse with Fido. I can't get internet to work. Is it the O2 or Fido??

so whatever happened with you trying to connect?

"internet.fido.ca L:fido P:fido domain: 205.151.11.11" still the only thing that works for me

MMS -

i followed this http://windowsonthego.com/blog/?p=280

To add the last bit I went to "messeges>mms options>profile>New"

MMS did not work when I selected : data connection>"FidoMMS"

but it did work when I selected my GPRS connection "FidoInt"

I was charge the $.50 MMS fee :D as it was supposed to

WAP -

And Wap nothing, i think it defaults to operator no matter what and I don't know where to change or remove the operator

other then this posted on the i900 forums

*#1546792*# - (Executes \Windows\AdminSettings.exe) Shows the Administrator Settings menu. In there:

1. Version - Shows a menu where you can access the version numbers for the PDA and the Software (redirects to the Settings Version applet)

2. Preconfiguration - Password is *#81230*#. Allows to preconfigure the Omnia Operator settings by changing the country and operator. Note: Changing this will hard-reset the device. This won't lock the device with the specified operator.

and The only Canadian option is BMC (bell mobile Canada?)

Can we swap the network(370)/country(302) codes in the registry or add an operator?

or is that info predefined? so nothing gets downloaded to the phone?

3G -

As for 3G I was in Montreal recently, the 3G icon was there, but I never used it. return to Ottawa only Edge.

I have GSM 850/1900 selected so there should be no problem.
