Guest warpigg Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 Hi, I've just installed ROM XXJ9 and I love it (thank u secany!!!). I change the default samsung today with SPB shell 3.5 but everytime I want to read a new sms it opens outlook. I'd rather have the shell to open the samsung messaging application. Is there any tweak to do this? Thank you in advance.

Guest awarner (MVP) Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 I just added a shortcut widget linking to the Samsung messaging app.
Guest tacchan23 Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 I just added a shortcut widget linking to the Samsung messaging app. I tought he wanted to open the Samsung app clicking on the Message Status (unread) icon. If not, a normal widget link is fine.
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 Possibly I was just mentioning a very quick fix. Will look at the invisible widget now as it sounds interesting :D
Guest tacchan23 Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 (edited) Possibly I was just mentioning a very quick fix. Will look at the invisible widget now as it sounds interesting :D In the link I posted above, all the mods are in separate cabs so it's nice if you just want to install one (or a few) new widgets without having to install a complete package/theme. THe invisible widget is just a normal link to any application but without an icon, so you can place it in top for example of the Message Status icon to open different messaging applications or on top of the calendar or clock to open the Samsung clock or ThumbCal or any other Alarm/PIM. Also useful on top of weather widget if you want to open some other weather application. Edited November 5, 2009 by tacchan23
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 Ok I need to reread the readme, topic and posts as following the instructions I can not get it to work at the moment. Invisible link I can not seem to find how to use and Zodiac clock while shows in the options does not actually change or once selected reverts back to the previous setting.

If you did the installation correctly (the tricky part is adding the xml file in the qa_layout.dat), to use an invisible widget you just need to create a link to any of your applications the normal way. Then you go to Change Skin and between the choice there also is the one to make it Invisible.
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 yep able to select invisible skin but same as clock nothing actually happens? I wonder if mobileshell has had an update that may be affecting this? Strange as the options are there but the graphics ar not. I have made sure on installing Main Storage is selected. I'm using version 3.5.0 build 9593 if that is of any use?

Guest awarner (MVP) Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 Yep all installed to Main Memory. took a bit to make the space available before it wold install.

Hi there, let's try to understand what's not working as it should (don't mind my nick on here, I'm Vostradamus on xda developers) If I get it right, you can see the new skins name in the skin selection window on mobile shell, but if you select them you don't get to see the widget, not in the selection window, not on the actual screen, am I right? If that's the case, it could mean that the cab is installed properly (the cab is responsible for adding the files in mobile shell folder AND adding the keys to the registry, and those keys are what make you see the new skin names in the selection window), but the xml file has NOT been added to your qa_layouts.dat, or it has been imported badly, without password or something.... check again that part. If you're not too comfortable with adding that file to you qa_layouts you could also use Shell Extensions to do it, I never used it but I've read it makes the whole process quite easy and comfortable. For any question, feel free to write in here or, even better, on my thread on xda :D Good luck! Edited November 5, 2009 by SatanClaus

Eheh, the exact opposit of what I said (shy/blush) About Shell Extension you can get it here and yes it's quite easy to use (just launch it, put the .xml file in the folder created by Shell Extension, and press Reset Shell button)
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 I'll give it another go then look at shell extension as well. I used Winzip but will give it another go as I have been a user of Winrar for many years so may have done something wrong. As you said above If I get it right, you can see the new skins name in the skin selection window on mobile shell, but if you select them you don't get to see the widget, not in the selection window, not on the actual screen, am I right? Exacatly what is happening And thanks for your assistance it is greatly apreciated.

Guest awarner (MVP) Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 Shell extension worked a treat, so it was obviously the way I used Winzip. So next step would be nice to see is a step by step into using winzip to join the two file together. Must say that Shell extension is a nice bit of kit as well, especially as it expands on what Mobileshell has started. Again thanks for the help :D EDIT, the invisible link is interesting and works well, not a simple method as such but worth looking along with shell extension without a doubt.

Guest awarner (MVP) Posted November 6, 2009 Report Posted November 6, 2009 That would be great if you could. The only problem with XDA Dev is the fact it is more for the advanced/developer user. While I have been in Windows Mobile devices since 2002 I am not of the developer/homescreen creative field, personally my area of expertise as such is to help the new user get to grips with the device. Once they have mastered the basics then I hand them over to you guys, especiall if they want to get more advanced and look into more indepth customising etc. There is so much information out there it gets overwhelming and very confusing very quickly. I moved from 2003SE into WM6.5 and suddenly it's this UI or that UI and more plug-ins and widgets than sand on a beach. It's certainly fun being a "new user" again I'm glad we have such a great community.

I kept on going there mainly 'cause I'm stubborn and I wanted to get the grip of those things, at least a bit about the ones I was interested in, and after a lil while I noticed there were quite a lot of noobs like me on there, and every time one of us asked some question there always was some "guru" there to help :P I also have to thank xda dev if I got here too, the first time I found a link to here it was in a thread on there, no need to say both boards went straight to my bookmarks lol :D
Guest warpigg Posted November 6, 2009 Report Posted November 6, 2009 just installed the invisible links cab! wonderful idea! Problem solved. Thank u guys!
