Guest secany Posted November 15, 2009 Report Posted November 15, 2009 (edited) Hi everyone, Sorry for didn't online an answer questions for awhile. I'm really in busy these days :D . I'm currently building a website doing unlock code from IMEI (That's mean, you send me the IMEI and some others information like model, country+network locked to) then make payment and I'll give you the code to unlock. Simple at 1-2-3, no computer knowledge required, no risk at all :) (NO, NOT FOR THE iPHONE) . Then a quick idea comes over my mind, should I open a forum in my website, or not? Not to competite with Modaco, of course :D As you see, xda-forum only care about HTC devices, and Modaco only care about Samsung with WM, so I think there must be a place for Samsung Android, and the next coming Samsung BADA platform. The most difference between my forum (if yes) compare with other forums is: Category will build from your guys opinions (well, not all, but only those opinions with high voted.). My forum and my business (unlock code) do not have any relationship. I won't, and never add a section to promote or take feedback or something about unlock/unlock code. If you want to be a volunteer moderator, welcome :D So, what you think, guys? PS: Poll will going until my website is ready (appoximately 5-7 days). Edited November 15, 2009 by secany
Guest mr fantastic Posted November 15, 2009 Report Posted November 15, 2009 I don't know if is possible, but you can ask if there is an option to add a section here in MODACO for others Samsung SO This is only my opinion

Hey Secany, I think its definitely a noble idea, however, given that number of Samsung forums and communities out there, I don't know if it would take off. There have been several sites that have tried to mimick the xda-devs community for other devices like Samsung (if I remember there's forums like http://www.samsung-omnia.org/, www.mobinauts.com, www.modaco.com etc). Problem is some haven't necessarily taken off like xda-devs. I think if you add another forum, it'll just add to the growing number of Samsung Omnia forums out there, and as a result the community will become even more distributed and dispersed making it harder to find things. The brilliant thing about xda-devs is that it is quite literally a one-stop shop of everything, and they have a number of developers willing to contribute. Of course if your forum provided something that other forums don't have (like the ROM's you provide), it may just work!
Guest secany Posted November 15, 2009 Report Posted November 15, 2009 I don't know if is possible, but you can ask if there is an option to add a section here in MODACO for others Samsung SO This is only my opinion Then I have to ask every single time a new Samsung PDA release? Plus, to be honest, if Modaco staff really care about Samsung Android, they did added i7500 looooong ago.

Ehm, actually they added it... http://android.modaco.com/category/407/sam...500-modaco-com/ of course in the Android section of Modaco, not in the WinMo section

I think the only way would be for you to release your ROMs there and only available to registered users (maybe with 10+ posts or something like that). Otherwise I think it's really difficult to "move" a lot of users...

Good idea, but I don't plan to "move" users, and I won't force them to "move" too :) I just believe people who support me will support my forum too. I know, keep a forum "alive" is waste of time and take too much effort. I'm still on half-half, do or don't , not decided yet, so come on guys, vote and idea please :D
Guest bobobird Posted November 15, 2009 Report Posted November 15, 2009 Secany, u are a busy guy and maintaining a forum is not something that a busy guy should be doing. Explore other options first..
Guest bond_guy_2002 Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 Hi Secany, your PM box is full ... so my messages did not get through. Anyways, how about consolidating that Samsung thread onto your Facebook fan-site ... I am sure it can be done :-) ...
Guest jermx Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 (edited) But if you open a new forum, will you have time to upload all the new ROMs available ? p.s. Willing to become a volunteer moderator if you really open up the forum (: Edited November 16, 2009 by jermx

Will be Samsung WM, Samsung Android, Samsung BADA. It all comes down to its contents, as long as offered contents are fresh, up-to-date and well categorized, there won't be a problem . But again, you need to spare some of your precious time, if not lots of it, to take care of members questions/concerns/requests/... and definitely it's not a one-man-job. But I voted in favor of your idea :)
Guest Wilson@China Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 That will be much better if we can have a dedicated forum to discuss about Samsung phone.

Guest silencer22 Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 (edited) since samsung is shifting towards bada in future u might wan to make the bada section big in the new forum Edited November 16, 2009 by silencer22
Guest secany Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 (edited) u guys forget symbian samsung...omnia hd Symbian, of course we will have symbian. i8910 and i8510, i450, etc.... Friends, please give me reason why you think YES for new forum, and reason why NO please :) Edited November 16, 2009 by secany
Guest tacchan23 Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 YES, if you will be actively involved in the new forum (posting ROMs, giving advices, solving problems, etc) and if you have some ROM chefs willingly to post their releases there. NO, if the above is not applicable becouse it would be just "another" forum to even more spread the few knowledgable people willing to help/develop for the community.
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 The problem you will have is that it is very hard to keep a site running in physical costs involved and just getting visitors. Remember more visitors = more bandwith required so more costs. There are also many established forums etc out there so it is hard to make an impact initially. As well as WM there are some large Symbian sites and the monster general device site is Howardforum with twice the membership MoDaCo has. Good luck in what ever you decide but you are always welcome here :) It's quite true saying Modaco only care about Samsung with WM as we care about all WM devices and the same applies to Android on the MoDaCo Android sister site. It's only Symbian we do not concentrate on heavily, but the after WM why would you turn to Symbian :D The Omnia is probably the most looked at WM device at the moment but it will be interesting to see if the user base shifts to the HD2.

Guest tropolite Posted November 18, 2009 Report Posted November 18, 2009 I voted 'no' Secany... My thoughts are that people would be confused by the separate forum. You may start running into conflict of interest with your forum and continuing with MoDaCo, not to say this would happen of course. An idea, if pitched to MoDaCo would be to generate subdomains for the high flying handsets, at the moment there are Windows Mobile, Android, iPhone, Netbooks, to include HTC, Samsung, SE, and others that have a high stake in multiple OS handset makers *or* create a 'Brand' Subdomain. Then Samsung, for instance could be a category then segmented further - but this would be a bit of work for the MoDaCo admins. However having said that, it may be relatively easy for them to do as they already have the Device Specific subdomains listed and available. Alternatively since you target Samsung and work with their multi-OS's and intend to work on their new bada platform (from what careace.net reports bada is a platform that will run on top of WinMo and Android, not an OS as such), it may be worthwhile to see if you can get a subdomain under the 'Device Specific' > Samsung with a subforum more specific to your needs. Then as you work on Android have a subforum under the subdomain of Android, etc. Cross forum discussion can then flourish without and this would no doubt only strengthen MoDaCo's popularity. Secany, whatever you eventually move toward I'm sure people will continue to look to you for your solid performance and dedication to providing the mobile phone community with up-to-the-moment firmware and support. Cheers
