Guest surethom Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 I have Turn off backlight after 30 seconds when not used activated, but when I am watching a video through Samsung media player after 30 seconds the backlight turns off, shouldn’t the media player override the backlight setting & remain on when watching a video, is there a way to stop the backlight switching off the same was as the phone does not switch off whilst playing a video.
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 There is no backlight as far as I am aware for the Omnia2 as OLED are self illuminating and do not require it, that is why the blacks are so black etc when watching films. The screen dimming should not happen but as the Samsung player is so poor I personally use TCMP Core player as is plays full 800x480 where as the Samsung will only play up 720x480

Guest tRAILeRZ Posted November 17, 2009 Report Posted November 17, 2009 which ROM are you using? I'm using J9 flashed with secany's files, no such problem while watching videos in Touch Player.
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted November 17, 2009 Report Posted November 17, 2009 I was under the impression that the backlight setting was more a power setting for the OLED rather than a physical backlight. There seems to be quite a debate about this with people arguing over backlight or not. One way to prove it would be for someone to donate me an Omnia2 and I'll strip it down and post some pictures. similer to my old MPX200 pictures I posted a few years ago, but that was even more extreme strip down :)
Guest tRAILeRZ Posted November 17, 2009 Report Posted November 17, 2009 May not need to go to such extremes.. if you turn off the physical backlight through the power settings and use the O2 in total darkness, there is a glow on the screen as compared to an unlit LCD screen. I assume this is light from the OLED itself but it's not strong enough to light the screen in well-lit environments hence the need for the other backlight. I turn off the physical backlight when watching movies in the dark before going to sleep.. as I find the screen too glaring if I don't.
Guest surethom Posted November 17, 2009 Report Posted November 17, 2009 Just found a solution of sorts I have installed coreplayer & the backlight stays on when watching a video & only goes off then the video is paused for more than 30 seconds, typical Samsung third party software works better than there own.
Guest ray1234 Posted November 17, 2009 Report Posted November 17, 2009 1)I'm on H9 rom and I don't have issue with the blacklight off when using Touch Player. 2) How does anyone get TCPMP or Coreplayer to play 800x480 at normal speed? what codec do you use? I use h264 avc and neither tcpmp or coreplayer is able to play at full frame rate, so it is not useable. My only option now is to encode in 720x432 for Touch Player to play it, as Touch Player is the only player that is able to play it smoothly 3) I find that the colors displayed in Touch Player is better than both TCPMP or Coreplayer, the color is more vibrant. 4) The only thing I hate about Touch Player is its auto orientation. While watching movies outside travelling on train, I will inevitably tilt the device here and there and the screen will change orientation to and fro. Any way to turn that off?
