Guest DunKnow Posted November 20, 2009 Report Posted November 20, 2009 (edited) Hi, may i know if there is people who are willing to dump their Omnia 2 for HD2, and please state your reason(s) why. Thanks! Edited November 20, 2009 by DunKnow
Guest Albertri Posted November 20, 2009 Report Posted November 20, 2009 If HD2 price on launch is the same as O2's launch price why not :)
Guest tacchan23 Posted November 20, 2009 Report Posted November 20, 2009 Here my opinion (copy and paste from another thread^^), Omnia2 is more of a all-rounder while the HD2 is more of a "specialist" (meaning it's better IF you don't mind the cons) HD2 pros: - it's quite faster than Omnia2 - capacitative screen is more responsive (even if Omnia2 still very good for a resistive) - bigger screen - better UI than Samsung UI - better support for customs ROMs at xda-developer HD2 cons: - capacitative screen may cause problems with older applications which requires a stylus of finger nail to cilck on small checkboxes (yesterday I was trying some Profile manager, really great application with fingerfriendly interface BUT really "impossible to use without stylus" setting menus); also the same about excell files or any documents showing a lot of small formatted information; can not be used with gloves - too big size for pocket (of course depends which kind of pocket^^) or to be used easily with one hand - NO AMOLED screen (if you like watching movie/anime it may be a very important point) - maybe too small of a battery for such large screen (of course need to check for people testing the battery life extensivly) - NO internal storage - NO TV-out - HSDPA worse than Omnia2 - more expensive (this may depends on contracts and where you live)
Guest forelli Posted November 20, 2009 Report Posted November 20, 2009 I will repeat myself: give me a HTC Touch HD with a 1 Ghz Snapdragron chip, newest graphic card and drivers, and a AMOLED resistive screen, I dump my O2 for it, right now :) . I'll change device when something very approaching to that will come out. @tacchan23: hey bro, it's true, I read somewhere that the HD2 HSDPA was worst than that of the Touch HD!

From what I understand, with wm7, the future will be only Capacitative screen... honestly I'm not so happy. I understand people want something really responsive and multi touch (even if I was reading of people on HD2 threads activating their screen without even really touching it°_° and even if multi touch for my use is quite useless), but still I think I want to be able to use a stylus when I'm at home and want to tweaks some settings/registry/etc. Of course new applications will have fingerfriendly settings menu too, but that's not exactly good in my opinion specially for those who need a LOT of setting and you'll need to scrool the screen up and down for hours to actually view every line...)
Guest DunKnow Posted November 20, 2009 Report Posted November 20, 2009 I was thinking that capacitive screen is a very in thing now for people, who love iphone, when they change to resistive screen, all they say was that resistive screen sucks. I would agree the mutiltouch of zooming is pretty useless, it is just an eye candy, why not double tap which is more easier? All this reasons would make my O2 more worth hehe.
Guest GinKage Posted November 20, 2009 Report Posted November 20, 2009 I would agree the mutiltouch of zooming is pretty useless, it is just an eye candy, why not double tap which is more easier? True. We can zoom one-handed, and iPhone/HD2 users have to use both hands. :)
Guest todin Posted November 20, 2009 Report Posted November 20, 2009 ho ho .. all omnian people answered.. kinda bias.... don have htc user here?
Guest tmn0004676 Posted November 20, 2009 Report Posted November 20, 2009 The Omnia II also has front camera, digital sound processor, camera button and FM record
Guest iWiNMo Posted November 20, 2009 Report Posted November 20, 2009 I'll stick to my Omnia II with almost same reason as stated above and the conclusion I found out useful from a 12 long pages of detailed HTC HD2 review on GSMarena HD2 has it flaws too. The camera is below par, video recording is kinda poor, the limited internal storage is a real bugger and the its sheer size does push the limits of user comfort. That last thing will perhaps be a deal breaker for many users. What is more, the HD2, just like its predecessor, does not justify its HD moniker. It doesn’t capture HD videos (but we knew that beforehand) and worse yet, it cannot even play any right. Samsung Omnia HD does these things with a substantially lower clocked CPU, so we guess Snapdragon doesn't equal HD automatically either. The final threat for the HD2 success on the Windows Mobile ring is the more lightweight Samsung I8000 Omnia II, which should definitely be the weapon of choice for all those of you that find the HD2 just too big. It might not have the brute processing power of the HD2, nor the RAM count, but the actual handling and response are perfect. The 3.7" AMOLED screen, another fully customized UI, huge internal storage, DivX/XviD support out of the box and all kind of software goodies make the I8000 Omnia II a force to be reckoned with in the smartphone field this holiday season. Not to mention it’s got a nicely capable camera and it currently goes for some 150 euro less than the HTC HD2. Just wait for Next Samsung smartphone release (second half of 2010) which will run on Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8672 Dual core chip at up to 1.5 GHz WoW :)
Guest vodanhdaisu Posted November 20, 2009 Report Posted November 20, 2009 @iWinMo: i'll stick to Om2 as long as i still satisfy with its performance. I have the same opinion like you. otherwise, SamSung has their own processor technology, they're using their own cpu as Cortex ARM in all their product, even in iphone, and it's absolutely their advantage, Qualcomm cpu can't play/encode/record/perform applications/video/music as well as ARM, iphone and Om2 are both clear example compare to HTC HD or even HD2. I don't expect a perfect or very very strong cellphone, i just want a phone just can satisfy me :)
Guest DunKnow Posted November 20, 2009 Report Posted November 20, 2009 @todin I think we do have htc users around, i was once a htc user hehe. @vodanhdaisu +1 , I don't expect a perfect or very very strong cellphone, i just want a phone just can satisfy me. This is the most important factor in choosing your own personal handphone, does'nt mean that you need to have a top model handphone which can do everything.
Guest the_KIT Posted November 20, 2009 Report Posted November 20, 2009 Just wait for Next Samsung smartphone release (second half of 2010) which will run on Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8672 Dual core chip at up to 1.5 GHz WoW :)
Guest secany Posted November 20, 2009 Report Posted November 20, 2009 To the specify question: HD2 or i8k , my opinions is i8k : - It's hard to compare ARM 800MHz and Qualcomm 1GHz. - LCD : i8k far better than HD2 - Touch screen: capacitative of course is better. However, don't forget that Windows Mobile series phones always come with a stylus, it works perfectly WITH a stylus. - Camera: all HTC phones Camera quality is worst than Samsung, Nokia, Sony Ericsson. Video recording of HTC is like a joke. - RAM: sure HD2 is better. But.... more RAM doesn't mean faster. - GUI: HTC Sense is better at the moment. (I repeat: AT THE MOMENT). What are the differences between HD and HD2 ??? I think HD2 was over rated. Myself, perfer Samsung more than HTC. I don't see any significant improvement on HTC in recently years.
Guest bobobird Posted November 20, 2009 Report Posted November 20, 2009 (edited) Why is this even being discussed ??? The CONS of the HD2 have been pretty well written at many places. And if some still think that it is a better choice by all means get one. I dont know about you guys but every time I have bought a HTC I always end up feeling sort of cheated and not been given something that equals the amount of money that was paid. With both the i900 and now the O2, I get the feeling that I did get the value for what I paid for. So.... Edited November 20, 2009 by bobobird
Guest vinzSG Posted November 21, 2009 Report Posted November 21, 2009 HTC phones are Overly Priced than Samsung Phones(the hi-end ones)....100-200 dollars more...i think?

Guest mndgz Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 as a long time HTC user I will be keeping my I8000, putting Touch HD on the shelf and replacing it with the HD2 :D
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 Personally I would go for the HD2 for the screen size, I need Excel and on the Omnia the screen size is poor as I used to use the HTC Universal. I am waiting on Mobile Office 2010 to see how things have improved but as I'm not in the US I cannot try the beta :D The only reason I use Excel is as a Scout leader I need data on all the scouts in my troop for personal details and badges etc, Excel suits me fine for this. What I really need is a software developer who can create an application for my scouting needs, but that's not going to happen as I could not afford to fund such a project. As for the poll, DunKnow are you concerned with the size of the device and how important is the camera to you? if the answer is no then I would consider swapping to the HD2 if I could afford it.

This is also an important factor

Yep, i am concerned about the size of the screen, the omnia 2 is pretty big already. Imagine putting HD2 into your pocket, it does not seems to be a phone already, it seems like a portable video player instead. Do we really need such a big screen? Handphone camera is just for the user convenience, a camera which can take photo near and far from the object reasonably is already okay for me.
Guest Chris Sim Posted November 24, 2009 Report Posted November 24, 2009 I will stay with my omnia 2.. Like those said before me, size too big for my pocket :/ and I will say the camera/amoled screen are the factors that attract me to stay with omnia :D But if HD2 have a successfull port of android OS, then it will be totally different story.

You could consider the Motorola Droid/Milestone which have almost the same specs as the HD2 minus the pocket-busting large screen.
Guest dgmorland Posted November 24, 2009 Report Posted November 24, 2009 (edited) I prefer Omnia II. Main reasons for me are the AMOLED screen and not too big to be able to txt with one hand using T9 keyboard. I tried the Omnia HD before buying and even that felt too big and top heavy and its only marginally different size to O2. All these problems being reported with camera on HTC HD2 are a bit of a worry especially since HTC has confirmed its a hardware problem. Hopefully its only a batch of phones because its not doing a lot of good for their reputation. Edited November 24, 2009 by dgmorland
