I am not sure how to present these questions/issues, but I am less than happy with the players that my Omnia II comes with:

The one that comes up with Cube is ok, but you can't minimise it to get back to your Today screens.

The Media Player just looks ugly and again you can't minimise it.

And the Widget player just opens Media Player because it says "No Library" (except right after you close Media Player, when the Widget player breifly actually displays the track that you were listening to.

You see, the thing with not being able to minimise apps is not normally a problem because with most apps, you open them, use them then finished so close. But with listening to music, you want to carry on using the phone and the today screens as normal. (No doubt there are other apps that you may want to use in this way).

Sooo, whats up with the Widget Player, is it not meant to be a player? Perhaps not since you can't browse through your library. Is it just a shortcut to Media Player - I think not since it has play, previous track, next track buttons.

If there is something that I can do to configure the Widget Player to see my library, please tell me.

(without wishing to divert from my question) I must also second comments in other threads about how pants it is that you cannot listen to music/radio with the phone on Silent or Vibrate without installing a 3rd-party profile manager. Is this a SS or M$ problem?

Running Secany's J1 ROM - thanks mate!

and not much else

The Silent/Vibrate profile issue is an MS feature, and is logical as such, why have the phone on silent but still have music playing? you may as well just turn the phone into flight mode.

As for the Samsung widgets, I stopped using that straight away and use SPB Mobileshell for widgets and homescreen layouts etc.

With having music in the background you can, just don't click on the "x" to close the app, I use the today screen and other apps when I play music. Then again I use SPB Home allocated to button 1 which takes me straight to the homescreen screen.

You can still use the Start menu to navigate away from the media player to access your other applications.

Thanks Tylwith! I didn't know you could minimise apps - I must be a noob aye! ;-)

Still interested to know what use the widget player is - not much methinks unless you can make it see your library and remember where you were up to

Simple: I want phone ringer and system on vibrate when I am in (open-plan) office, and to me able to listen to music via headphones.

When I click play, the phone asks me if i want to play in silent mode - surely i could ask me if i want to turn on headphones, or better still, it has already prompted me to find what i have plugged in to 3.5 jack, so it should just play the damn music aye. Not rocket science you would think, but i am just a user not a developer.

I have been told about a 3rd party app that can look after setting up profiles properly and will look into that.

Um, for me if I have the phone set to ring while listening to music the ringtone will play on the headset, not the internal speaker, so no one around me is disturbed. :D
