Guest rbens Posted December 6, 2009 Report Posted December 6, 2009 I'm new here. I bought a I8000 omnia II 3 months ago. I tried to work the internal GPS but it seems it doesn't work. I tried different software (IGO, Google maps, Garmin) but without success. My friend has the same device, we upgrade together on the same day from same computer to WM 6.5, and install on both IGO. We enter the same setting (GPS programe Port 7, and hardware 9, baud 4800). we aslo have all same paramter in XTRA (we aslo tried with the same SIM for both phone) but no GPS signal. Anybody that has any idea I'll really appreciate it. I tryed also to clear all storage and format again... Roni

Roni IMO, the gps chip in Omnia 2 with winmo 6.5 take a longer time to "start" receiving signals than winmo 6.1. Thats what i experienced. Sometimes when i start my garmin, it gets no signal for a long time, once even 30mins...still no signal. So its something to do with the new phone part of our firmware(roms) or the chip has some sort of manufacturing glitch. Kel

The Omnia I/II is shipped with the GPS set to only provide location information during 911 calls. If you do not switch it to general use, it will appear to be non-functional. To change this, you must go to Phone->Menu->Options... Click the Services tab. Select the GPS service, and click the "Change Settings..." button. Make sure "Location On" it selected -- not "911 Only". Hit the OK/X button, back out of the phone dialer app, and give it another try. If this wasn't the problem, let us know, and we'll dig into some deeper trouble-shooting.

My friens's I8000 phone has connection after less than 1min when XTRA is update and 3-4 min without XTRA. Mine even after 10 min nothing happen.

I've tried turning off Touchwiz but i still cannot see it :D 1) Omnia2 must in Phone mode. 2) GPS setting in Omnia2: Programme port : com7 Hardware port: com9, baud rate: 4800 Access: checked manage GPS automatically(Recommended). without the above setting it will not works for u and it formed a complete GPSr system in Omnia2. The GPX default setting no need to modified. Activated XTRA which will accerelate the GPS fix. Install and Run BeelineGPS, it will first to locate the GPS in Omnia2. If it can't detect any GPS. It mean you have a faulty GPS. Send it to Samsung Service Center for repair.
Guest acastiyo Posted December 13, 2009 Report Posted December 13, 2009 Hello, I have been trying beeline, and although my gps was ok, it didn´t detect it, so sometimes the program doesn´t find the gps. I have tried to get position with tomtom using every solution explained in the forums and there was no way to get it. I use TT7.916 and Secany´s IL2 and both Google Earth (after some tries and some time waiting) and IGO8 are working right now without gps gate, just COM port 4 and speed 9600. But there was no way to make tomtom work. I wonder why there are people who can make tomtom work and some not.
Guest jh787 Posted March 31, 2010 Report Posted March 31, 2010 (edited) Has anybody tried typing in *#1472365# into their Omnia2? It brings up some extra gps settings, some of which are similar to settings that can be reached in registry but some are unique. The main one that was of interest to me was the start up mode of GPS. Mine was set to cold start which meant that every time i started my tomtom it did so by deleting all previous data. This meant i was on a cold start each and every time i used it which was why it took forever to lock sometimes. I have now changed this setting to "hotstart" and my locks are instant. Please see post 95 in the following thread for my registry settings which give me a very fast fix with excellent accuracy. http://www.modaco.com/content-page/275659/...0/#entry1238381 Edited April 7, 2010 by jh787
