Guest dwallersv Posted December 6, 2009 Report Posted December 6, 2009 Simply, why don't manufacturers include one as part of the phone to begin with, applied at the factory as part of the manufacturing process? The cost is trivial. The potential after-market revenue stream from replacement "OEM" protectors has some real potential (think about all the other nickel and dime stuff they do that we don't want, just to extract an extra buck or two). For customers that don't want/like it, well, just peel it off. They already apply a film to keep the display from getting scratched anyway, that all of us have to peel off. So, eyez scratches minez hed...
Guest a7mdo Posted December 6, 2009 Report Posted December 6, 2009 well my omnia i8000 and everyone else`s came with a screen protector...nokia does it with all of there phones...
Guest dwallersv Posted December 6, 2009 Report Posted December 6, 2009 Ahhhhhh.... so once again, it's just those idiots at Verizon... :D
Guest tacchan23 Posted December 6, 2009 Report Posted December 6, 2009 I got a free screenprotector from the shop where I bought my Omnia2... but I doubt anyone got a screen protector included in the box
Guest Badulay Posted December 6, 2009 Report Posted December 6, 2009 The protector came on mine was quite good but was not properly installed (not an extra one that thing that everybody peels of) so i bought from E-bay and used 20 days with stock protector.
Guest a7mdo Posted December 6, 2009 Report Posted December 6, 2009 you dont get a screen protector with the phone u get it already on the screen so the same thing if not even better ...yes its a bit crooked but still fine by me better than nothing
Guest axc Posted December 6, 2009 Report Posted December 6, 2009 Mine came with a protector installed that i thought it was pretty good. i went ahead and purchased the Invisible Shield by zagg, installed and removed right away( i didn't like that sticky feeling on the screen;on the other hand i kept the back piece for i think it offers great protection and better grip) and reinstalled the one that came with the phone. I liked that one better!
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted December 6, 2009 Report Posted December 6, 2009 The included protector is fairly thick and very durable, I bought some cheap ones from Amazon as spares but they are pathetically thin that I will not be using them.
Guest ...GeForce... Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 one thing still puzzles me.....using these custom protectors.....doesnt it affect the responsiveness of the touch screen
Guest Ender Psp Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 one thing still puzzles me.....using these custom protectors.....doesnt it affect the responsiveness of the touch screen It pretty much comes down to both technologies involved: screen's responsiveness and protector's durability. It does affect the responsiveness but in such a degree that is mostly imperceptible. However, there are a couple of factors that are most important: transparency, durability and surface. Some protectors are thin, some are a bit thick. Some have better transparency, some are more finger friendly. Personally I noticed that today's protectors offer ok to good transparency and bad to great protection. There are well established brands and there are cheap knock-offs. However none are perfect. But some are definitely ok. Long story short, an ok to good screen protector doesn't really affect responsiveness (the effect should be less than 2-3%). Of course, a bad screen protector won't let the finger slide well, or scratch easily, or not be perfectly transparent, etc. You can compare these to contact lenses, if you wish, and if you have an idea.
Guest .:stn:. Posted January 1, 2010 Report Posted January 1, 2010 the so called stock protector isn't a real one, it's just as all of the other "transparent stock stickers" to protect the phone part from scratching durign the production, assembly and packaging process. Although the one that was on my PRO served me well for over a week until I bough a really decent one. For us it may seem it's a dirt cheap.. well it is for one piece.. but not if you sell millions of phones.. of course it is the CUSTOMER who sould count.. but.. theory vs. reality you know how it looks like.. Want a quick similar issue? Look at your PDA<->PC cables they're getting shorter and shorter. I can't put connected PRO on the desk (way too short) until I plug it via extension cable.. Again.. it's not that expensive but if you can have 2 cables out of one.. the deal is simple especially when ther's crisis on the inernational market.

As a transparent stock sticker it is the first one on any device I have ever owned that is a perfect fit, has a cutout for the front camera and also no writing over the screen face. I would definitely say my protector is a real screen protector and has lasted me a good few months so far and still going.
Guest xaznxplaya Posted February 4, 2010 Report Posted February 4, 2010 Talking about protector I just got selfowned, just received mine from Bodyguardz, although while ordering I never looked at the picture and they never mentioned about which version it was. Indeed, I received a i920 one instead of a i8000 -.-

I am hoping it will become less so, but I don't hold out much hope. Did you get to feel the Bodyguardz protector? Does it also have a "sticky" feel?

I know, everyone says the invisible shield had an orange peel feeling lol. The bodyguardz' doesn't have one and it come with 2 protectors, although they make it for i920 only, only issue it's that the protector covers the front lens as well.
Guest surenz Posted February 5, 2010 Report Posted February 5, 2010 Try those protectors: http://www.gadgetshieldz.com/samsung-omnia...tors-skins.html For the cost of ~$7 they are worth. I made a little review with photos in Bulgarian here: http://forum.pocketbulgaria.com/viewtopic....=228953#p228953 If there's an interest and Google translate doesn't help you I could try to translate it in English ;)
Guest decebal Posted February 5, 2010 Report Posted February 5, 2010 I have my doubts. I removed mine that was from the factory and I do not want to install another one. Why ? Because our screens are different because are built with Tempered Glass meaning more durable and less prone to scratching.

Guest plguzman Posted February 5, 2010 Report Posted February 5, 2010 I decided not to use screen protector in my new i8000. I am very careful with my phones (my 1 year i900 has just 1 small scratch that is barely visual) and a digitizer costs $20, so I prefer the feel and look of the original screen.

Does it also have a "sticky" feel? the Zagg shield will become less tacky, and any residual bubbles and dimples will flatten away as it cures--not in a day, but in a week. unfortunately, too many tear it off after a few hours or days. for obvious reasons, it will never be smooth as glass; however, mine is nearly a year old and there isn't a nick, scratch, tear, divot on it after god knows how many times the phone has been pulled in and out of pockets, bags, etc. for those researching protectors, the Zagg requires weeks to cure--NOT an hour, not a day. the end result is it does as advertised.

Thanks for that firsthand report. I will leave mine on for awhile longer. It has been about 2 weeks and it is definitely better, but still has some stickiness.
Guest dwallersv Posted February 7, 2010 Report Posted February 7, 2010 Since I started this thread I've been through several protectors. Here's my summary:Out of the box there was a "screen protector", but as others have noted it was not a "real" SP -- it was the factory covering to protect during manufacture. It even had a little tab on the lower corner to remove it.No i920 protectors were available on the spot at Verizon when I picked up my phone, so I bought one of those "universal" protectors, cut it to size, and applied it. Not as good as a pre-cut protector, at all.Got two thin, clear protectors from Amzer. Were very good. Unfortunately, I botched the installation with both of them, (I'm a perfectionist when it comes to screen protectors -- you should be able to detect that it's on there), and lived with that for awhile. I've ordered two more. They're quite good. Also got an Amzer "mirror" SP. Rather thick compared to the others, however it hasn't seemed to noticably interfere with touch sensitivity or response. I don't like it, and would recommend against it. The mirror gimmick, while living up to it's billing, also destroys outdoor visibility, and introduces some polarized mosaic color banding and wierd distortions when not viewing the screen absolutely straight above it.So, I would recommend the Amzer i920 protector. It's reasonably priced (7 bucks), works well, and if applied properly, is completely invisible. The have a cheap cheap cheap six-pack on their site as well as reseller's sites, but it's out of stock right now, and I don't know if they discontinued it (why, with such a new product?).

So, eyez scratches minez hed... mine came with a screen protector (don't know how to stick it on without misplacing the protector), a 4GB MicroSDHc card (no use because I am using the 8GB MicroSD card that I bought for my Omnia i-900) and papago AGPS application installation disc.
Guest cass_m Posted February 7, 2010 Report Posted February 7, 2010 Thanks for that firsthand report. I will leave mine on for awhile longer. It has been about 2 weeks and it is definitely better, but still has some stickiness. I ended up taking mine off after a couple of months. Still a little draggy and too much glare. Ended up with a Clear Tech anti glare from Boxwave. It's washable so when you mess up the first couple of installations you can wash it off and start over LOL. Did leave the back on until I change out my decal from decalgirl.
