I have no idea what to expect with what can be done (visually) for a rooted Android phone, as I have minimal Linux experience and I am brand new to the Android community. Really I feel no need to tinker with the advanced underpinnings of the OS and just want to see what the UI modding community can come up with. I really want to play around with the HTC Sense UI on my Droid, as I like the UI but liked the Droid more than the Droid Eris, especially due to the more advanced hardware (which should be a boon for the ROM community as well).
Guest blazingwolf Posted December 9, 2009 Report Posted December 9, 2009 Well, I still have some learning to do as this is my first Android device also. I wouldn't expect to see anything from me anytime soon as I have lots of learning to do. I do plan to start making ROMs for the Droid though I just don't know when it will happen.

Guest MrCapcom Posted December 9, 2009 Report Posted December 9, 2009 Yea I know close to zero about Linux its kinda different than making a rom for the omnia. I would figure that if we had a type of kitchen environment like we have now it would be a bit easier but still. I know when I get mines I'm gonna try to learn how to make apps.

Guest thetwiztidfreak Posted December 10, 2009 Report Posted December 10, 2009 AWESOME!! cant wait to see what comes from this being rooted not really sure what benifits rootings gives us other than the ability to install apps to the SD card but custome roms are always fun.
Guest Paul Posted December 11, 2009 Report Posted December 11, 2009 Right, so anyone tried this on the milestone yet? ;) P

Guest Tim T. Posted December 11, 2009 Report Posted December 11, 2009 BW & destrekor, I'm glad to see a familiar face in here, too. I also had the Omnia. I'm looking forward to see what the Droid can do for me.
Guest MrCapcom Posted December 11, 2009 Report Posted December 11, 2009 I can't wait for the kitchen/ROM's for the DROID
Guest rcicu Posted December 15, 2009 Report Posted December 15, 2009 what are the big things you can do at this moment with rooting the Droid?
Guest blazingwolf Posted December 15, 2009 Report Posted December 15, 2009 (edited) what are the big things you can do at this moment with rooting the Droid? Well, they are extremely close to loading the Nexus One ROM on the Droid. ;) I don't think it will be much longer before we see custom ROMs. Other things that can be done now is skinning. Screen shots can be done with Drocap2. Edited December 15, 2009 by blazingwolf

Guest timgman Posted December 23, 2009 Report Posted December 23, 2009 Blazing wolf, Your roms were the ony reason I used the omnia for so long. I know nothing of wm6 wm6.x but linux... I KNOW linux.. tht's what I do... I prob. don't have the free time to work on roms but I'm psyked that the world of linux is gettting so much larger with the droid OS...
