I had a look at a vanilla 1.6 install on a friends phone and this doesn't seem to be present, although is present on the HTC Hero via the HTC dialler. Are there any recommended diallers that will add this function? the app called 'acontacts' does have a t9 dialer. it's a very useful app, but a bit slower compared to the built-in contacts manager.
