Guest Januwar Posted December 13, 2009 Report Posted December 13, 2009 Hi all, as you might have seen leo001 managed to port SWYPE to Omnia: http://www.modaco.com/content/i9x0-omnia-h...m/297340/swype/ This is great for all Omnia users. Unfortunetelly there is only a english and spanish version so far. Therefore my Q to all Omnia II users: Could you upload the ZDB-Files to be found in the Swype-Folder. This could help us, to use Swype in other languages. Thanks a lot Cheers

Guest akirita Posted December 13, 2009 Report Posted December 13, 2009 I do not find by any Swype site for Omnia 2 in Spanish, is that there? Greetings and thanks
Guest Januwar Posted December 14, 2009 Report Posted December 14, 2009 Seems like we have to wait, until Omnia II are released in the specific countries and nice users upload their zdb-files. akirita: Don't know if you're looking for this? (see attach) CheersSpanish.zip

Cheers SlideIT has already 14 language packs : Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Hebrew, Hungarian, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Swedish. The keyboard is provided with primary and secondary languages, and the user can switch between them at any time You can download it here: SlideIT - Multilanguage

I have installed SlideIT but some options are not as nice as with SWYPE. For example I haven't found out how I can switch of the automatic CAPS @ beginning of word or the automatic space after entering a word .. But it's a good solution for the moment Greez

Guest The Swype Team Posted December 15, 2009 Report Posted December 15, 2009 We see you have re-packaged our software and are distributing it. We are glad to hear that you guys like Swype, but we are obligated to state that we don't condone such activity nor support the result. Naturally those of you asking for new languages and features should wait until we launch a device in your market. Obviously, we won't support unlicensed versions of our software. One might ask why we don't just release the .cab file ourselves and save everyone the hassle. The reason is that we have spent seven years building Swype and we want to try to make a living selling our software. That means someone needs to pay for it. Thus far, our business model is OEM licensing. We do plan to get to direct-to-consumer distribution but it is a different sort of business and thus it is hard to say when. In the meantime, enjoy using Swype and please look out for a better, more integrated, and legal version coming soon to a phone near you. Regards, The Swype Team PS. Our lawyer has asked us to remind everyone about copyright infringement and to inform you that Swype reserves all of its rights.
Guest Januwar Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 (edited) Dear Swype Team, first of all thanks for this great software. It will certainly revolutionize text entry in future handsets. COngratulations! You wrote that your businessmodel is B2B, which makes perfectly sense as the marketing expenses to reach endcustomers directly would be hugh. Therefore it's a good decision to license the software to the mobile-manufacturers and let them do the marketing. As long as they are doing a good job and there is no cheaper competitor. On the other hand this means, that all users of "older" handsets (like Omnia and many more) might never officially enjoy SWYPE. This is sad for us, but for you it means that you loose a big piece of the cake. With the help of all the communities and guys like Leo001 the best thing happened to you, that can happen to software-developers: SWYPE became very famous within some days. Why not using this channel to make it more famous, which will certainly help you to make more and better license deals. By the way you could earn some extra money as I'm absolutely positive that most of the people are willing to pay some dollars to get it officially on their "old" handset with the needed language. Why don't you open up a PayPal account, charge some bucks for the language files and enjoy the marketing power of communites .-) The future of marketing are communities Cheers BTW: Some of your competitors already learned about the power of communities and use all discussions about SWYPE and missing language packages to promote their software. Great Answer Januwar! Thats exactly how Windows Mobile and other mobile systems work. Swype will not be able to be very succesfull without the community and the a possibility to use their keyboard for older devices.
Guest nitrate Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Now i'm fed up with this... Dear SWYPE Team, I don't realize why you use Samsung - especially the i8000 Omnia 2 - and provide your software with it, but that's your choice. I just don't get the reason, why you provide the english i8000 Omnia 2 with your software, but not the german one. Why the hell is the Swype company doing this? Also just providing phones with your software but not the software itself is some kind of stupid. Think about it - you would make much more money when also selling the software for itself AND provide it pre-installed with future phones. I'd like to know why the heck is it integrated into the american / english i8000 Omnia 2, but not the german one?
