Guest jacobgong Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 I'm not only new to the forums, new to the samsung Omnia II, new to smartphones, I've never had a cell phone before. I was planning to use the GPS function but it appears that it doesn't even have a GPS program out of the box, and the almighty google maps only download maps on the go. So is there an app that would store a map for like a country so that I don't get $5000 data bills? oh, free would be prefered, obviously.....
Guest deepower Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 In Turkey they sell this phone with free up-to-date map and a Route 66 navigation software. But I don't really know about other countries. I've seen many people recommending and using iGo but I really have no idea about it. Maybe you could surf around this forum and you could also take a look at xda-developers. Hope I can help, deepower
Guest acastiyo Posted December 17, 2009 Report Posted December 17, 2009 Hello, there are many options available as navigation software, many of them are paid: Tomtom 7 or IGO 8 are the ones I have used and like. But there are also free options, I know there is a program written by someonee at xda-developers that uses openstreet maps, but I cannot find it now. There should be some where you download the maps from openstreet maps and then use a free software that shows your position on them, but I don't know if those free ones will calculate routes.
