Guest silvoren Posted December 19, 2009 Report Posted December 19, 2009 restart phone and goes back to swype
Guest iWiNMo Posted December 20, 2009 Report Posted December 20, 2009 (edited) restart phone and goes back to swype What did you exactly mean? A question or suggestion!? I assume you were trying to ask "How to set the Swype to act as your default SIP even you reset/reboot/soft-reset your device!?First things first! Sorry to say that all discussions and any sort of "Swype" distribution has been put on hold due to copyright infringement issue, but it doesn't mean that you can not set any other SIP as your system default, there are a lot applications which do the job, Google can help you on this one to find those free ones and if with any chance, you had a copy of SKTools, it could do the job as well! Edit: Damn! Your question didn't match your thread title in anyway, that's why I totally missed the real question which has been asked in the title instead of its context! I assume you are the i920 user since you are from US and Swype is coming with your device right from factory! My bad! Just try any SIP Manager Edited December 20, 2009 by iWiNMo
Guest surgex Posted December 20, 2009 Report Posted December 20, 2009 (edited) Thanks iWinMo..and yea the i920 does this and it's UBER annoying. I personally like the samsung keyboard a lot better...it has haptic feedback and when in landscape mode the space bar is in the middle, not on the right. BTW, SIPmanager didn't work, says not valid ppc application. I'm suprised Advanced Configuration Tools doesn't have an option to select the default SIP..oh well. Any other options? Guest silvoren Posted December 20, 2009 Report Posted December 20, 2009 (edited) I’m not following you at all. My question is How to change default keyboard to Samsung Keypad. The part I put in the body was additional information because I don’t want someone telling me to select the arrow next to the swype icon to change keyboard because when you reboot swype becomes the default again. Yes I am using VW i920 The SIP Manager you pointed me to doesn’t work says "SIPManager is not a valid Pocket PC application." I have Googled with no luck Update: I tried PPC Configurator SIP Manager to hide swype and it no longer shows up in the list however when you reboot it defaults back to swype. It's got to be a Registry setting somewhere...I'll search for it. Edit: Solved (or not). http://download2us.softpedia.com/dl/aa789d...e_Camel-Fix.CAB Install that, open from start menu and select whatever SIP you want to be default, then soft reset and test. It gives me an error message after restart...but it does in fact set the default SIP to samsung keyboard instead of swipe. The error message persists every time you restart the device -- so I uninstalled the program. Unfortunately, the setting is not "kept" if the program is uninstalled -- it reverts back to Swype. Sigh...maybe SKTools has an SIP setting, I'll check... Edit: No SIP settings in SKTools or Advanced Configuration Tools -- Only setting to enable\disable auto-popup...Hm. Still need solution ;) Not sure what the deal is here, the key seems to be HKCU\ControlPanel\SIP\DefaultIM But SIPChange doesn't seem to do anything to that key at all...hmmm OK so I found the string for the default keypad and changed that registry entry, soft reset and it sticks. Need to know the string that the samsung keyboard uses. The Swype one uses {7D51A54F-14D0-4eda-AC8D-0AE175C344E8} Edited December 21, 2009 by surgex

Ok guys, lets hope this one works but since I'm not a i920 user, therefore I have no idea regarding number of pre-installed keyboard/s on your devices, of course beside Swype! Here is what I usually do when am trying to change my default input, starting the SKTools then Input Methods> tap-n-hold on your preferred keyboard (i.e. Resco Keyboard) then from menu select Set as default> then softreset and that gonna be there for good!

Yay! SKTools does have it...it was just hidden in the sub menus ;) Samsung Keypad uses registry key of {CE1763BB-8E63-4549-0946-BE242E3FE78C} If you don't have or don't want to install SKtools just add that string to the DefaultIM key I listed above.. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\SIP\DefaultIm And yes, it needs the {}'s ;) Thanks again iWiNMo ;) Works like a charm with or without SKTools.

Guest silvoren Posted December 26, 2009 Report Posted December 26, 2009 Had to do a hard reset then tried again and it worked. Made a cab file if anyone wants. If you need to do a hard reset on VW i920 1. Remove back cover 2. Carefully insert a thin blunt object (such as a stylus) into the reset slot, located on the lower left side, below the OK button 3. Immediately after pressing the reset slot, press the following keys TOGETHER, SEND key, END key and LOCK key at the same time Note: The buttons must be pressed exactly at the same time 4. Touch Yes to confirm formatting the handset.samsungkeypad.cab
Guest surgex Posted December 27, 2009 Report Posted December 27, 2009 tried this now phone hangs wont boot Wow..I'm sorry about that (didn't mean to cause your phone harm....)...Are you 100% sure you modified the correct key? Thanks for the cab, too. I'm sure it will help other users.
