Guest rodrigofd Posted December 24, 2009 Report Posted December 24, 2009 Okay, if you read my other post in which i explain the 'memory reservation' issue, related to implementation of the I8000 WM kernel (NK.EXE), you might know that i had reply from expert 'cmonex', who is willing to help us in cracking such kernel, to release more available memory for our Samsung devices. Some of you might be very interested on such matter, others might not. The thing, is that precisely because she is 'the best' on this topic, she basically will request a monetary incentive ('donation') .. Since it is an extremely complex and time consuming job, much more than what we all here do in cooking etc, i suppose she has right to ask for it. What i propose here is, if there is enough interested people, is that we mantain a 'bounty' , so to be able to pay her for the job. I saw similar things on other places like XDA, and it actually works., so why not here? Okay , she will be able to dig into the matter, starting on first days of February 2010, so , my project is to collect bounty during january, so we can pay her to get it done on that date. B) I know many of you will probably disagree or even be disgusted with this idea, but if you aren't interested, you can simply ignore it. I will open the bounty with USD 50.00 taken from donations i received from many of this forum users (thx guys!) so i give back to community :) If the time comes and i don't receive help from you , i will probably go into by myself , but keep in mind this might benefit to all I8000 users ... Opinions welcome ;)
Guest dande Posted December 24, 2009 Report Posted December 24, 2009 Mary Christmas to all, I haven't got my Omnia yet, (probably next week) but I've got informed through the forum for the RAM issue which seems to be the most important issue for this device. It's the key factor to keep this device and try changing other issues like cosmetic, functionality, performance by flashing it or get over it and try find another device to spent my money and my time. I fully agree with your idea. I will contribute 10 USD for this purpose through donation to you. Btw rodrigofd you are doing great job (although I haven't tried yet). Cheers dande
Guest gtryf Posted December 24, 2009 Report Posted December 24, 2009 Not a bad idea, Rodrigo, but what happens when Samsung decide to release a rom version with an updated kernel? say e.g. a 6.5.3 build, which still suffers from the same memory issues, but, being a different build, will probably need to be patched again, differently this time. Wouldn't such a development require that cmonex do the same job all over again? Possibly requesting payment again... My opinion is, it's a terribly interesting challenge, personally I'm extremely interested myself in working on it, but I lack the time and I definitely lack the expertise. Perhaps the best idea would be to wait for Microsoft themselves to resolve the issue. Just my 2c. George.
Guest touchflo Posted December 25, 2009 Report Posted December 25, 2009 (edited) i actually looked into this last week. the windows image gets loaded into memory at a certain location. from that location till the beginning of the ram is what we have left as free ram. we have to reallocate the image to an offset further down and that will increase our available free ram. BEFORE |===============================|================| FREE RAM ........................................................| WM OS|| wasted ram | AFTER |==========================================|=====| FREE RAM .............................................................................. |WM OS| the sizes arent exactly accurate, but you get the point unfortunately i dont have the time this month to work on it anymore. i will try whenever i have time. hope this helps someone Edited December 25, 2009 by touchflo

Guest Krecik2002 Posted December 25, 2009 Report Posted December 25, 2009 Are we even sure that Samsung is not going to release such optimized kernel by themselves? Maybe there's not enough whining around to prove Samsung that memory problems are really serious issue?
Guest nap_rz Posted December 25, 2009 Report Posted December 25, 2009 Are we even sure that Samsung is not going to release such optimized kernel by themselves? Maybe there's not enough whining around to prove Samsung that memory problems are really serious issue? well I find it hard to believe this kind of obvious problem missed out by phone/QC testers at samsung, it's now like they were actually deliberately done this.
Guest hameedx Posted December 25, 2009 Report Posted December 25, 2009 Memory is definitely an issue. I'm willing to donate US$15 to get this issue fixed.

Guest ajhvdb Posted December 27, 2009 Report Posted December 27, 2009 Ok, the only one who can change this is Samsung. If they are not doing this, they must have a reason for this. But 20$ from me.

Guest rodrigofd Posted December 30, 2009 Report Posted December 30, 2009 hi RFD... any information where i should sent donation? i and some of my friend decide to join :) Hi monyozt. You see, cmonex said that she would be available at the end of january, so i am not sure how to collect donations for this matter. If you feel trusted, i can collect donations for this project via paypal and pay her myself, but i don't want to be blamed for anything B) If she fails or declines the job, i return given donations. Otherwise, we can wait for her to be available, my intention in this post was to use this waiting time to make the collect ;) .. in anycase suggestions welcome

Guest Oscar9 Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 I will definetly chip in on this! Right now I am dirt broke due to my recent engagement (I guess a diamond is forever, right?). However... Once I have a few bucks in my pocket I would be more than happy to send some your way. I am a student so I'll pledge $10 :) that's about 2-6 beers depending on what you get and where you get it. Keep up the great work!
