Guest mkolonko Posted December 27, 2009 Report Posted December 27, 2009 hi, I'm running mcr3.0 on my gsm hero. My 16gb sd card has 2 partitions: 1st: 15.4gb fat32 2nd: 512mb ext3 so the setup should be ok, right? now, when i go to settings->SD card & phone storage under Internal phone storage i see 60mb available space. when i install new apps, the 60mb decreases, but the value in SD card -> available space (11'715mb) stays unaffected. now i wonder, if the apps are installed on the sdcard, or on the phone memory... please, could someone clarify this for me? thanks

The SD available space won't change as that is only reporting the fat32 partition. The internal storage decreases as space is taken up by the dalvik-cache - this will decrease with each app you install, even when using apps2sd. You can check by opening an adb shell and looking in /system/sd/app - you should see your .apk files there :)
Guest mkolonko Posted December 27, 2009 Report Posted December 27, 2009 thanks! The SD available space won't change as that is only reporting the fat32 partition. The internal storage decreases as space is taken up by the dalvik-cache - this will decrease with each app you install, even when using apps2sd. I totally forgot about that. I'm wondering, why there's only 60mb left. Sure, I have lots of apps installed (about 20), but still... Besides of the cache, what else takes away the internal space? like all the HTC apps, rosie... is that all?
Guest clarkEEE1 Posted December 27, 2009 Report Posted December 27, 2009 The best way to see if app2sd is working is by taking the sd card out and see what apps don't work. If all apps are still working apps arn't being stored on sd.
Guest clarkEEE1 Posted December 27, 2009 Report Posted December 27, 2009 If you have 20 apps and down to 60mb I don't think it is working correctly I have over 130 apps and 86mb of internal memory left. But I do have all caches on sd as well as davlik cache.

Now, I'm sure there is somewhere a thread that shows how to transfer the apps to sd... thanks!

Now, I'm sure there is somewhere a thread that shows how to transfer the apps to sd... thanks! Personally I have around 100 apps installed and, after clearing lots of caches, I have around 30MB internal storage free. IIRC, the apps that come with the ROM sit in /system/app, whereas those you install are transferred to your ext partition.

Well this is interesting, unless we have our wires crossed! My /data/app is correctly just a symlink to /system/sd/app and works fine. I was talking about the .apk files in /system/app: # cd /system/app cd /system/app # ls ls AccountManager.apk HtcSettingsProvider.apk AndroidNotes.apk HtcSoundRecorder.apk BizCardReader.apk HtcStreamPlayer.apk Browser.apk HtcTwitter.apk Calculator.apk ImProvider.apk Calendar.apk Jbed.apk CalendarProvider.apk Launcher.apk CertificateService.apk Mail.apk CheckinProvider.apk MediaProvider.apk Clicker.apk MediaUploader.apk CustomizationSettingsProvider.apk Mms.apk CustomizationSetup.apk NetworkLocation.apk DCSCHT.apk PDFViewer.apk DCSGeocode.apk PackageInstaller.apk DCSImpl.apk Phone.apk DCSReverseGeocode.apk Rosie.apk DCSStock.apk Settings.apk DCSUtility.apk SettingsProvider.apk DCSWeather.apk SetupWizard.apk DownloadProvider.apk SocialNetworkProvider.apk DrmProvider.apk Stk.apk FilePicker.apk Stock.apk FlashPlayer.apk Street.apk GSD.apk Superuser.apk Gmail.apk Talk.apk GmailProvider.apk TelephonyProvider.apk GoogleApps.apk Updater.apk GoogleContactsProvider.apk UploadProvider.apk GooglePartnerSetup.apk UserDictionaryProvider.apk GoogleSearch.apk Vending.apk GoogleSettingsProvider.apk Weather.apk GoogleSubscribedFeedsProvider.apk WeatherProvider.apk HTCAlbum.apk WorldClock.apk HTCCamera.apk YouTube.apk HTCNew.apk checkin.apk HTCSetupWizard.apk com.htc.MusicWidget.apk HTC_IME.apk com.htc.StockWidget.apk HTMLViewer.apk com.htc.TwitterWidget.apk HtcAddProgramWidget.apk com.htc.WeatherWidget.apk HtcClockWidget.apk com.wsandroid.apk HtcContacts.apk gtalkservice.apk HtcFootprints.apk htcbookmarkwidget.apk HtcFootprintsWidget.apk htccalendarwidgets.apk HtcLocationPicker.apk htccontactwidgets.apk HtcLocationService.apk htcmailwidgets.apk HtcLockScreen.apk htcmsgwidgets.apk HtcMusic.apk htcsearchwidgets.apk HtcPhotoWidget.apk htcsettingwidgets.apk HtcRingtoneTrimmer.apk teeter.apk Obviously as they sit in /system they won't be taking up any of the internal storage space reported by the phone as this is just /data. Are you saying that these should have been moved? I don't see any reason for these to be moved from their current location.

No dude they are in the right place they shouldn't have been moved there in the Rom /system/app, anything you install yourself gets put in data/app which is linked to system/sd/app but kendon is right has some apps on the Rom like browser, maps, wifinder get stored on data/app. Edited December 28, 2009 by clarkEEE1

Guest venturerider Posted January 11, 2010 Report Posted January 11, 2010 Another silly question: Are these ROMs signed with test keys? If not, will it make a difference if I sign my own zip with testsign, which uses test keys?
Guest kendon Posted January 11, 2010 Report Posted January 11, 2010 What is updater.apk? nothing related to apps2sd.
Guest venturerider Posted January 11, 2010 Report Posted January 11, 2010 I was just wondering if updater.apk is the OTA update facility? If so, maybe it should be removed to avoid unwanted updates from HTC?
