Guest rungvang Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 (edited) I've lost my Omnia I yesterday, and now I plan to buy a new one. There are few candidate, i8000 is the one of them. But today I saw the twin of i8000 - Samsung s8003 Jet that look almost like i8000. I didnt see much different between them. S8003 has a 8gb version compares to i8000 16gb version. The screen of S8003 is even better (or Im mistaken here) 16M colors compares to 65k of i8000. The functions of them is quite similar, camera is the same, processor same, i8000 got a dedicated graphics accelerator which, if Im not mistaken, s8003 Jet doesnt have. Everything else is quite similar. I wonder if there is any significant different between them, may be i8000 got a better touch screen... Edited December 31, 2009 by rungvang
Guest KILLvino Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 the jet is smaller, doesnt run windows mobile, and is lower specs wise in most aspects.

Well, main difference is the OS: Windows Mobile 6.1/6.5 and probably 7.0 upgrade in 2010 for Omnia 2 I8000 versus Samsung's proprietary OS in S8003 Jet. The rest of the differences you can see here but there's not too many as they have almost the same hardware. A quite good review is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cxSNY7qIys4.
Guest .:stn:. Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 ..and probably 7.0 upgrade in 2010 for Omnia 2 well AFAIK not really, WM7 specs are a bit higher than omnia's HW, at least 1GHz processor is required.
Guest rungvang Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 (edited) Thx guys ) Windows Mobile, then it does make sense )) Edited December 31, 2009 by rungvang
Guest Ender Psp Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 well AFAIK not really, WM7 specs are a bit higher than omnia's HW, at least 1GHz processor is required. Well, a little birdie told me that "some" processors are going to be supported ;) That's all I can say for now :)

Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 Well, a little birdie told me that "some" processors are going to be supported ;) That's all I can say for now :) well it this was "that" birdie guess it changes helluva lot :> by hook or by crook.. someone will finally try to put it, the question is whether it's gonna be official or not [; (but does it make much difference) [; rgds
Guest grahamkdt Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 ... I think you'll find that WM7 will need multi-touch support devices - seeing as Omnia II doesn't support multi-touch, I wouldn't hold your breath. Not only that - Omnia II will be at least 18 months old by the time WM7 is at RTM stage so I believe I will win the lottery before any company releases an operating system upgrade for a device that old... they want your money, so they'd rather sell you a nice new device. Which ties in nicely to my 18 month contract, new OS, new device, thank you nicely :)
Guest paw1 Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 If WM7 will only support devices >1Ghz processor or those that have to have multitouch, how many devices do you think will have WM7 ? I think WM7 will be on devices more than just a few a year.
Guest surgex Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 (edited) Ah the great WM7 debate...all those device guidelines are stupid afaic... I'm sure *someone* will find a way to get it working on the Omnia2... I seriously doubt microsoft will drop support for _all_ arm11 cpus in WM7...the speed of the processor really doesn't matter as almost all mobile devices use RISC cpus -- it's the instruction set that matters (duh)...for example, an OMAP3430 (A8-CorTex Instruction Set) clocked at 600mhz is about 3-4 times faster than the Arm11 processor used in the Omnia2 which is clocked at 800mhz I believe..so once again, clockspeed really does not matter at all -- so setting a "requirement of 1ghz processor or more" is 100% meaningless. As far as the device needing to support multitouch; I really doubt that will be true either. Samsung have said that with BADA os they are able to do multitouch using everyday resistive screens (not those fancy ones with big ass ribbon cables), so anything is possible...also I really doubt that _every_ wm7 device will have a capacitive screen...just seems so limiting, as some people prefer resistive screens (I'm not one of them but..). Now, will samsung offer an offical upgrade? Doubtful. Of course, it's all about money, and they want you to buy their latest and greatest device...just like every other manufacturer.
