zaDesktop us a far, far better remopte desktop app than MS Remote Desktop. Supports multiple resolutions up to 1024x768, zooming/shrinking, etc.

And it's free.

Also available is a lightweight telnet client that I use all the time as well. It's free too. Go here to check these apps out.
