Guest surgex Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 (edited) So I recently just hard-reset my phone and have been installing apps, and it seems I cannot get a GPS lock anymore with google maps, garmin xt, parlingo, or sprite terminator's GPS test thingie. I was going through the threads on this forum and I see that the i8000 etc comes with AGPS (XTRA?). I am wondering why the i920 does not come with this, and if there are any GPS testing programs I can try.. Perhaps CDMA requires something different for AGPS? Can I just use the quickgps cab from HTC phones? Will the XTRA program work properly on the i920? Even before I hard reset, I noticed that it did take quite awhile to get a GPS lock... I have the OmniaHD as well and used it on AT&T for awhile, and that did have an AGPS program (Called GPS+ I think), and with that device I could get a lock in about 10-15 seconds as long as I had the GPS+ program set to download the satelite info daily... And -- Yes I am not an idiot, I have the location setting set in the GPS settings instead of just E911 only. Thanks all...happy new year! BTW, I noticed that people were talking about server settings for the XTRA program, I suspect it would be compatible with any AGPS program and can use anyones location server...I don't know if this will actually help anyone, but the i8910 (OmniaHD)'s server settings for the GPS+ program are: h-slp.mnc410.mcc310.pub.3gppnetwork.org Edited January 3, 2010 by surgex
Guest surgex Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 OK so the GPS works fine today, I am guessing it wasn't working last night because of a storm...but I still have questions about AGPS on the i920...anyone? :)

I'll do it for you this time: :) A hint here (values are pretty good for a nice almost clear sky) and a good read here.
Guest surgex Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 (edited) Use the search button B) and some google. I'll do it for you this time: :) A hint here (values are pretty good for a nice almost clear sky) and a good read here. Well that first link talks about iGo 8 (Which I'm not using) on the GSM Omnia2 i8000 (Which I don't have) and talks about "with Xtra data" -- which also isn't on the i920 (a question and point that I had made in my original post...) -- so I would say that first thread is completely 1000% irrelevant, lol... And on the 2nd link, you linked me to the wikipedia article on AGPS (I won't even comment on that any further..) I realize that most of the people on these forums are i8000 users, and that the i920 isn't very popular yet since it was just released -- so I thank you for taking the time to respond regardless I'll try to be more clear with my questions.. 1.) Why doesn't the verizon i920 (not i8000) come with an AGPS application like the i8000 does (called XTRA?)? Can I just install HTC's quickgps, will that work? Or can someone make a cab file of the XTRA program and will that work on this device? 2.) Regardless if I force the com port settings in garmin XT (not igo8), the GPS still takes quite a while to lock...as I said, the OmniaHD can get a GPS lock in about 10 seconds provided that I set up the GPS+ program to download data daily. 3.) I would also be interested in a GPS testing program (mentioned in firsst post also) that could calculate automatically just how long it takes to get a lock. BTW I did do some googling, and while it is hard to sort out the results specific to the i920, some sites do mention it has AGPS, but I cannot find any settings for it anywhere, and there's no mention of assisted GPS in the phone's manual or on samsung usa's website. Thanks all ;) Edited January 5, 2010 by surgex
