Hi everybody.

I was wondering if it's possible to create a virtual phone to load Samsung Omnia II Roms before flashing it to device :) , as it can be done on a PC with Virtual PC. Is it possible? ;)

Thanks a lot.

o.O possible...? in terms of programming I don't see why not.

In terms of hardware... I doubt it should be done. cause the virtual omnia2 will be so slow and laggy and virtually unusable due to not enough resources given to it and if u do give enough then ur original omnia2 will be suffering

no no, I don't want to create a virtual device on the phone, I want to create a virtual phone in my computer, a program that create a virtual phone on the PC...

There is already a WinMo emulator, you can find/download it at Microsoft.

But after trying it for some short time I gave it up (becouse I'm too noob or the applications itself it's not good/easy enough, I don't know which^^)

Also I'm not sure if you can also use it to flash and test ROMs... I just used to test some UIs.

VMware have a risk emulator in beta at the mo - once that comes out, we will be able to run any app that can be packaged on our phones: http://www.vmware.com/products/mobile/

However, VMware is not a cpu instruction set translator so they won't be able to let us run WinMo on our PCs (or servers!) The M$ WinMo emulator would be the way to go at the moment, which can be found here

I am curious. How do you guys test out custom roms then? DO you take a risk and flash on ur own device?

That's right, as simple as that, at least i do. It is not actually a 'risk' as you put it, if you just mess with the PDA part of ROM, you can basically always re-flash to a working rom, if you can't even boot the custom one (which, one you have minimun skill, is really rare)..

However if you do a lot of rom customization like me, and you don't have a spare phone, then it is really a pain in the **s since you are alot of time without phone on, loosing calls and sms (i currently happen to have two i8000 so i don't suffer from this now) ..

But unfortunately I am like you without a spare phone. Beside the omnia II holds most of the memory in the eboot. Without freeing the space there, we can only squeeze out a little space from the PDA part only
