I am pretty sure you have to do that through your computer. FYI my laptop has the option to enable or disable charge usb devices through the bios and also through Lenovo Power Manager. I don't know if windows has anything in the advanced power settings but I'm sure if you googled it you might find the answer.

I don't think that registry key exists on our devices.

its is for IPAQ & HTC devices.

"I am pretty sure you have to do that through your computer"

I'm also pretty shure that it is an advatage of some ( not all ) usb drivers on the windows mobile device.

So I'm looking for a costum usb driver or someone knows how to enable it on our devices.

My htc hd2 has the option to disable charging when connected to a computer. my girlfriend's i8000 had the option when it had wm6.1, now with wm6.5 I can't find this option :)

Many people give suggestions on how to use batteries thinking that what was true for Ni-Cd & Ni-Mh batteries is true also for Li-Ion batteries. These two technologies are so much different!!

Li-Ion batteries don't care about partial charges, so, if you connect your device to usb and the battery receives more partial charges the battery doesn't affect.

Full discharges for Li-Ion batteries are much more worste then frequently partial charges.

Then, you don't need to charge a new Li-Ion battery for a whole night (8 hours) when it's new.

These two rules above are incorrectly inherited from the old Ni-Cd & Ni-Mh technology.

So here are some rules you can follow to keep your Li-Ion battery healthy:

- Don't frequently discharge completely the battery. This means: Recharge the battery before the telephone switch off by itself. Let the phone do this just once per month (this helps the fuel gauge and it will be more accurate)

- Keep the lithium-ion battery cool. Avoid a hot car. For prolonged storage (months), keep the battery at a 40% charge level and possibly in the refrigerator (Do not freeze it!)

- Never put the battery on a hot place. Consider removing the battery from a laptop (laptop bottom becomes very hot) when running on fixed power.

There has been saying that a Li-ion battery have a life of about 500 charge-discharge cycles. If that is the case, does recharging when the battery is 20% or 40% consider as a charge-discharge cycle? If yes, then that could be a concern because if one uses USB cable to transfer data or .cab files between PC and the phone, and then disconnect the USB cable and test the .cab file on the phone, then there could be quite a few charge-discharge cycles involved I guess. Of course one can transfer all files before testing to avoid multiple recharges.

I have the concern concern about too many times of USB charging. That is why I generally do not use USB connection to transfer files. Instead I use bluetooth. For transferring larger files I use FTP via Wifi which is much faster than USB.
