Guest New Daddy Posted January 10, 2010 Report Posted January 10, 2010 I have no trouble charging my Omnia 2 (1) from the wall with the stock wall charger and the USB cable or (2) from the desktop using the USB cable. Yet, my Omnia 2 doesn't get charged when I hook it up with a car charger through the cigarette jack. The cigarette charger is from Jabra that came with a Jabra speaker phone, but since its output is 5v/750mA, I think it can be used to charge just about any cell phone. As a matter of fact, it successfully charges other HTC phones through USB cables that I tried. So, I know the cigarette jack unit from Jabra is ok, and the stock usb cable is ok, but when I put the two together to charge my O2, it doesn't work!! What can be wrong?

The Omnia 2 can only be charged by USB cables with certain wires crossed together. There is a few posts about it here in the forum if you search for it. If you power off your Omnia 2, and connect it up, it'll charge. Put simply, you need a special usb cable to charge the omnia 2 while turned on. Simple as that. Some work, some don't.
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted January 10, 2010 Report Posted January 10, 2010 Amazon sell i8000 car chargers at very cheap prices, I paid £2.95 for mine with free shipping. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-Omnia-I800...6849&sr=1-1

But, shouldn't at least the stock USB cable be able to charge while connected to a car charger? Are you saying that the stock USB cable that came with my O2 may not qualify as a "special" usb cable? As long as it's the USB cable issue, I'm more than willing to go out and buy a special USB cable, but the fact that the stock USB cable fails to charge my O2 through the cigarette jack worries me a little.

I am pretty sure that this is the same issue as with the original Omnia, in which case the USB cable that comes with your phone does not charge the phone. Without a doubt one of the silliest things i have come across in 10 years of using Windows Mobile devices....

Does that mean the stock USB cable can charge with a wall charger but not with a car charger? Was that the problem with the original Omnia?
Guest KAJINOFE Posted January 11, 2010 Report Posted January 11, 2010 (edited) http://www.wirelessemporium.com/products/s...-2-sch-i920.asp Something like the above where they actually advertise that it'll work with the i920 didn't work for me. The first unit I got had the blue LED light up on the unit when connected to the wall/cigarette plug on the car but it won't actually charge my phone. I emailed them and they sent me a whole new unit... Well this one... didn't even have the blue LED come up and obviously didn't charge the phone either. Emailed them back and their response was something like "oh it's been approved by the manufacturer that we deal with so not sure about your issue. We've never seen this issue come up for us" I've asked them to send me a second replacement unit just to give it a third shot... after this l,l So we can't really trust these online vendors yet and should really rely on people's experience imo... Sad... FYI: I tried using my stock usb cable on the unit and the one that came with it and neither of them charged off the wall nor the cigarette charger. The USB cable that came with that unit however charged fine with my stock wall charger and off the computer. Edited January 11, 2010 by KAJINOFE
Guest KAJINOFE Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 (This is going to be my final comment on this topic) http://www.wirelessemporium.com/products/s...-2-sch-i920.asp Guys… do NOT buy the above charger from that vendor. I’ve gone through 3 of these and couldn’t get them to charge my Omnia 2. 1 was a defect and the other 2 had the blue led indicator on when I plugged them into the wall or the car cigarette charger but it wouldn’t actually charge the phone. I’m aware of the USB cable mod trick but that’s not what I was looking to do when I bought this particular product. If a company advertises that something works, it should work, period... Their customer service was initially fine and was quick on replying to my emails about the issue and sent me the first replacement no problem. But that replacement was a defect, or I think it was since the led wouldn’t light up and besides it wouldn’t charge the phone like the first one, and I asked them if they actually tested the device on the Omnia 2 or not and the rep gave me the “Oh I’m not working in that department so I wouldn’t know but the charger is guaranteed compatible by the ma
