Guest Cyberpictures Posted January 12, 2010 Report Posted January 12, 2010 Maybe someone knows how to solve this.. I used to charge my Omnia2 via the wall charger. A few days ago I bought a new Usb Hub with external power supply. The output is 5V and max 2A. I normally have my phone connected to the computer while I'm at home so I can control it from there. I thought it would also charge a lot faster if i connect it to the Usb hub, which worked well. But now it doesn't even respond to the wall charger anymore. And it only charges when hooked up to the pc. Not even the Usb-hub itself is enough, the computer has to be turned on or nothing happens. Any suggestions how to get it working with the wall charger again?

I see 3 possible outcomes here: 1. the wall charger is fried 2. the charge board on your Omnia 2 has been damaged somehow due to improper use of the usb power hub 3. the battery has been affected by the improper use of the usb power hub I'm more inclined to say 2 and that's because usb hubs with power supply don't regulate the intensity (amperage) of the current that they supply. Most likely you've been charging your phone at much more than 700 mA. Most usb cables provide 500 mA (which is sufficient to charge the phone as long as it's more than 5%) and most oem chargers (including car) provide IC of 500-900 mA, which is acceptable. But if the usb hub has been provided more than 1A then it's very possible thay something happened to the charger circuit. And I doubt it's the battery.

The current drawn from the charger depends very much on the resistance of Omnia2. Although a charger may have a higher mA, it doesnt mean it's charging the Omnia at that current. A 2A charger means it can maximally provide 2000mA of current. Nevertheless, there are still chances that your charger can damage the charge cirucuit board due to another reason. It happens when a cheap non-regulated charger provides badly fluctuating voltage. Normally, a 5V charger produces a volage of 5V +/- xx V. A good charger usually have a small xx value, so it fluctuates minimally. A cheap one might fluctuate so badly that it exceeds the tolerance of the Omnia2, thus, fry the charge circuit of the Omnia2. . However if your Omnia 2 is still chargeable by USB hub, that means the charge circuit is still ok. So, I highly suspect it's the charger that's malfunctioning I wouild try switching to another charger and see if it solves your problem. Please report back your findings, so we can all learn more. Cheers~ Edited January 12, 2010 by hkwildboy
Guest Cyberpictures Posted January 12, 2010 Report Posted January 12, 2010 Okay guys, I'm back with good news. First thank you all for the answers. It was the original charger that didn't work anymore. So I took my old Nokia N73 Charger ( 5V , 880 mA) and soldered the plug from the Omnia wall charger to it. Works like a charm. And the USB hub also does a great job - damn it's fast at charging the phone. I think it has already be posted here but once again if you want to charge your phone with any Usb Charger you have to make sure there’s only a 5V and a 0V connection the two data cables must not be connected or the phone won’t charge. And just to be clear Ampere is provided – each device takes as much as it needs. ;-) Thanks again.
